Because I looked at the races, looked at the guilds, and knew that was what I wanted to roleplay the most. I decided on roleplay first. If I -had- chosen PK first, I would have probably been an elf. But that's neither here nor there. I knew even before I began playing that this time round I wanted to be large, dumb and friendly.
Stetson2004-12-08 05:36:26
Ok.... you as a -person- or -player- made a decision that you either knew, or quickly discovered was going to result in having a extremely tough time killing other players. You made this decision on the basis you wanted to roleplay a certain character (Large dumb and friendly).
You decided on a race with full knowledge that it would be effected -greatly- in the damage department for this class. If you didn't understand fully, you do now, and either refuse to change race because you want to preserve this specific roleplay, in place of being an efficient combatant (or you used your reincarnation to become this race, which really shows a great deal of enthusiasm towards you wanting to roleplay over pk)
It's really quite simple. You made your bed, now you must lay in it. (or pay in time and credits to build up another character)

Oh, enough with the bed thing, it's been on this board like ten times!
And Iggy, I did what some consider a no-no. I chose human because of the exp, and Aslaran because of the bonuses, and then I put RP around them. Working well for me.

I still say druids should have some more Charisma based attacks.

You know, people who say, "Well, either join Serenguard or reincarnate" aren't helping at all. I've already said that I really don't want to choose between roleplay and PKing.

So it just comes down to this, you want the coders to make cudgel strength-based instead of intelligence, you want cudgel to have it's own balance so you're not as slow anymore and you want all that without giving up your tankiness as a tae'dae... ...do you even listen to yourself Iggy? You want the divine to completely throw the game off balance just cause you don't want to pay the price for your "RP"... That's some fine RP right there.
Daganev2004-12-08 12:01:46
I never heard him make any such suggestion. He did suggest that charisma play more of a part than intelegence. And if you look at the races that would live in serenwilde, Charisma is a stat they share.
Elfen:15 int 15 charisma, Furrikin:12 int 14 charisma, Faeling: 14 int 16 Charisma Tae'dae:9 int 15 Charisma.
All other races are Charisma 13 and below.
Basically you don't hurt anyone who chose a different forestal race for being a druid, and you help make Tae'dae more viable as a druid, which their personality would appear to fit. Self proclaimed wise, and protective.

I'm with you on that one, Richter. I mean, I didn't DO it (I picked human because I thought it'd be good to have my own seperate racial RP...'cause everyone's an elfen around here), but I'm going to go turn into a Furrikin so it doesn't look quite so silly that I have two Furrikin sisters. Plus I love being a kitsune But yeah, as long as you RP, who cares why you do it, really? I never understood that.
Unknown2004-12-08 16:54:23
Thorgal, do you even listen to -yourself-?
I've not said anything to do with strength or speed. My idea wasn't outrageous, as Daganev kindly pointed out. It would neither screw any druids over, or put me in a position to be the greatest PKer out there.
I assume you didn't read any of my posts before hand, but decided to make presumptions.

Thorgal2004-12-08 19:29:37
On which stat would you like to have cudgel based on then? Having the force of which splinters burst out of your staff depend on how pretty you look?
Shiri2004-12-08 19:40:02
Or how many splinters coming out of a stick to depend on your IQ? Intelligence and charisma measure a bit more than that. In this case, I think Iggy's perspective is that it measures force of personality too, and therefore it MIGHT have some connection with druidic magic.
Daganev2004-12-09 00:06:50
I'm not quite sure how druidry works in the RP sense. I havn't spent any time with any druids in game, but Estarra once pointed out that your Ego is not a reflection of your Charisma, but rather your Charisma a refelction of your Ego. (from an in game point of view, not mechanics) Your Charisma is not how well you look, but how well you deal with others, and your own self confidence.
If druidry has anything to do with the spirits of the forest or your ability to influence said squirrels, it would make perfect sense for the spirits to give you more power the more they liked you.
Or if you prefer, harnessing the living energies of the forests is tantamount to influencing the people of a village. You don't just use your mind to harness the elements as a mage does, but rather you influence the life forces to do your bidding.
The more I think about the idea of Forests having a strong relation with charisma based races the more I think the idea sounds good.
Might be something to put in an envoy report.

I think it's intended that tae'dae are only good with physical attacks. Simply because, physical attacks have many more defenses to reduce them. Races that are average with weapons, tend to be average or good with spells, and non physical attacks aswell - So they do have some hope of killing past someones defenses. However, the tankier, much harder to kill races, Like tae'dae, are very good with physical attacks and taking damage - If they suddenly have a way, as any archetype, to get around the physical defense of a person, ((which, having druidry charisma based would cause)) then it's alot harder to stop their offense, but still just as hard to kill them.
My point is... every tanky race relies on physical damage for most of it's attacks. Simply because, to balance out that huge strength and size, they need to be easier to counter with defenses of your own. If they suddenly got strong magic attacks, or even average ones, they'd suddenly have a much harder to stop attack option.

As Daganev said, Charisma is NOT how pretty you look. The ability to influence people is not all happy-hotties getting people to like them. Especially I know the Magnagoran city influence abilities. Sometimes, its about scaring the freakin' crap out of people and making them cower, and I think being a powerful lich HELPS that, not hinders it.

Elfen druids (i.e. High Elfen): 17 int, 15 charisma.
So you would hurt elfen druids, actually.

I'm no druid, but I am High Elfen. I think it is just a level thing.
Shiri2004-12-10 01:06:50
Nah, you get the race change on learning Wicca or Druidry. You've learnt Wicca, Quidgyboo, so you get the race change too. The opposite happens to Elfen who take the warrior specialisation in communes (Serenwilde only at the moment, obviously), and similar effects apply to Viscanti and Merian in Magnagora and Celest respectively.
Alger2004-12-10 01:45:07
no one said its all about how you look but theres a difference between being beautiful normal and well repulsive and how it effects self esteem, and how presentation affects impressions
Shiri2004-12-10 01:49:05
I'm pretty hideous OOC, but that doesn't make me any more or less diplomatic. Er, when I want to be. And it certainly doesn't affect the force of my personality. So the charisma Iggy refers to isn't exactly the same sort of application as the charisma used to influence people, in the same way as intelligence can cover both lateral and logical thinking, just to make two simple, distinct categories out of it.
