Honour at its best

I doubt anyone cares about Murphy's opinion, but I have to defend myself anyway. I went to kill Imadis and was attacked (and killed) by both him and Murphy- to me that says that neither of them are too bothered about honour. After praying and losing considerable experience, I come back with Silimaur. Murphy and Imadis are still together. I beckon out Murphy, and kill him myself (without Silimaur's intervention). His excuse was he was afk or something. After he vitae'd or lich'd, whatever it was, Silimaur killed him (alone, without me helping). After this Imadis left, and when Murphy was done praying he asked me for a duel.

Valek will testify to the fact that I do not accept or decline duels depending on the likeliness of success. I refused Murphy because:

1) His reason for the duel was that I 'jumped' him, implying I was dishonourable. Since he initiated the whole episode by intervening in a fight between me and Imadis, this is a poor reason indeed.
2) I knew I could learn nothing from the experience. One thing (among many) which needs sorting in Lusternia is the bonecrusher's ability to keep you permanently off balance, until you die. This had already happened to me once, and I'd died because of it (when Imadis and Murphy attacked me- I didn't get balance back once after the first time he hit me, until I died 4 or 5 attacks later, no ectoplasm).

Hope that clears up a few things. Of course I have nothing against Murphy or Imadis OOC, I'd like to make that clear also.

As for the whole thing with Thorgal... I find it sad. Thorgal was a great Paladin, helped me out with everything and had unlimited patience and generosity. I can understand how people might see what he did as wrong, but I more than anyone (from other IRE game situations) understand how pressure and dissatisfaction can lead to rash actions, and how something as small as a disfavour can make you snap. Apathy is a worse enemy than any Ur'Guard.

QUOTE(Olan @ Dec 9 2004, 04:18 AM)
I intentionally play a character who has never asked for nor expected anything in return for what he does for the city and guild. I've influenced for ages on end, died again and again with no complaint. Everything I have done, including gaining of levels and gathering personal gear, has been for the express purpose of serving the city. If you don't know who I am, that just proves my point...I don't yell or shout or demand attention, I don't lead the parties per se or come up with grand strategy. But if you ask the people who influence a lot, and lead war parties, I always follow, do what needs to be done, and never complain.

Now, I'm not saying we're universally altruistic, but failure of such altruism does not imply total selfishness.

There. You have your example. Want to point out a time I have asked or expected anything for my personal service to my city or guild? Yeah, I didn't think so.

*g* Your guild and city are all for the same goal. If they do good, you do good. Try a time where, like I said, none gained anything save for the party. This party really cant be related to you in that way, or you gain.

Rafael, I see your point, but I think that's pushing it a bit far. Because if you go down that route, NO ONE is even remotely altruistic, because even if they do it just to make people happy, they gain from it by seeing people happy in a way. If dying for your city isn't selfless, for example, then pretty much nothing is.

Good point. Fine.. Ur'Guard are.. pah, I can't say it.
Daganev2004-12-09 22:26:22
I've never seen the ur'guard claim anything about being honourable or holding by any code of honour. We have respect and duty, anything else is just personal opinion.

Respect, duty and fear.
This thread is strange, whatever this is, this should be kept in-game. This is the Idiots forum, where we post about other players we feel are doing stupid things. But this is about characters doing stupid thing.
Don't do this. It's not healthy.

Edit: Actually, it's not even the idiots forum, is it.

To shiri: My little poke about angelmonegrs being dishonourable was just me being sarcastic, doesn't transmit too well over here i guess.

And the Amaru:

Dude, I never made any excuse about being AFK or anything, I never do as it is not a valid excuse. I don't know where you got this from?

And secondly, Silimaur did -not- kill me alone, you attacked back when i came back in after you. I got afflictions from the angel and for some reason was in red mana. Perhaps you missed it I don't know, but silimaur certainly didn't kill me himself after i vitae'd.

Amaru you need to read what is posted right, i'm sure I made an OFFER to duel because you were upset at me for some reason. and offer is different to a challenge.

I dont have anything against Amaru OOC but really need to check out facts before making posts, and no hard feelings
