Slayers is freaking OLD. But kinda funny, I guess. Elfen Lied, not really sure what's going on there, but there seem to be...er...anyway, think I might skip the rest of that...Boogiepop Phantom looks so atrocious on this PC I'm not sure if I can be bothered to watch it.
Thanks for reminding me about .hack//sign. I got the first episode of .hack//Liminality on DVD when I bought .hack//Infection (can't find the others), but being an OVA I didn't expect much, and I was right. So I'll look into .hack//sign. Not a fan of the music, though. (FMA's music still rocks. Kesenai Tsumi, Tobira No Mukou E, Riraito. Bleach's too, but I can't find anywhere to download the tracks apart from Asterisk, Life Boat and That Other One. Which is a shame, since it's cool.)

Hmmm.. anime... favorites... ::ponders::
Don't know if that includes Movies, series or ovas...
Short list I guess:
Fruits Basket
Full Metal Alchemist
.hack//SIGN (Series, games and OVAs, not //Dusk aka //Tasogare no Udewa Densetsu)
Hoshi no Koe (Voices of a Distant Star)
Kumo No Mukou, Yakusoku no Basho (Beyond the Clouds)
Vandread (And 2nd Stage)
Martian Successor Nadesico (Series and Movie)
Slayers (The 3 series, The Slayers, Slayers Next and Slayers Try)
Haibane Renmei
Trigun
Spirited Away
Those are the ones off of the top of my head that I liked, there's probably more but I'd have to sit down and think about it, and I don't like that. The thinking part that is, I've got the sitting thing down pat.

Yeah, Slayers is super slow to DL, but I'm gonna finish it eventually. Gonna get Fruits Basket at some point probably. What's "Vandread" about? And Haibane Renmei, which I've never heard of. (Heh, I can tell you're a .hack// fan, I recognise that guy! Not sure if he was in the anime or anything, but I know he was in .hack//infection. *nod me*)

Most of my stuff I have on dvd, though I'm big into fansubs as well. Would be nicer if I didn't have a 5 gb/week cap on my internet here at school though. Could get more without much worrying.
I highly recommend Fruits Basket, BTW, and if you like the series, read the manga which continues the story.
Vandread is one of the 'earlier' cg heavy series produced by Gonzo. Basic premise is the men are from mars, women are from venus idea, only... pretty much exactly that. Though it doesn't take place in the solar system, Men and Women grow up on separate planets and are generally at odds with each other. The series kicks off with pirates (women) attacking as the men's new warship, Ikazuchi (Stretching my memory on that one) is about to launch, and then lots of funky stuff goes on. It ends up with 3 guys on a ship of 150 women, neither knows about the other much aside from personal bias', and they end up being put up against stuff in a plot line which more or less has to make them work together. The title is derived from Vangards (the human-like robots of the men) and Dreads (the fighter-type ships of the women).
Haibane Renmei is also a very nice story, don't want to spoil much, though it is a short series, but still something you should check out.
As for .hack, yeah... I like Kite, and since he is the main character, he'll be in all 4 games. I've only finished the first game myself, though I've owned all 4 for quite some time now. I'm more or less waiting for the novel that came before the tv series (.hack//SIGN) which is called AI Buster, though I'm not going to hold my breath on that one.

Weird, that Vandread thing. Hm. Guess it's going on the end of the list. Oh well, I just download my stuff, so fansubs it is. And ah, so he's only in the games? I finished infection, quarantine isn't out here yet, and for some reason I haven't been able to find mutation and outbreak in second hand shops (which is where I'm getting them from, as I don't consider quarter-games worth paying full price for ) so meh.
Rhysus2005-03-31 20:16:48
Have any of you seen Galaxy Express 999? It was my first anime, caught it on the Sci Fi channel when I was like...9. It's definitely old style anime, but a good watch if you like that genre.

Shiri:
Yes, Kite is only truely in the games.
AI Buster takes place before .hack//SIGN and concerns test players for the game Fagment
.hack//SIGN takes place years after The World has been released, just as fready things are happening. The main cast include Tsukasa, Tsubaru, Mimiru, and Bear to name a few. The main character of .hack//SIGN is Tsukasa, who inexplicably can't leave the world. Takes place primarily in the game, with some distorted presentations of reality here and there (as though you're watching a bad tv)
.hack//Liminality occurs in the real world, following a different set of characters. The entirety of the OVA occurs only in the real world, with a few abstract representations of the world whenever they feel it necessary.
.hack//Infection, Mutation, Outbreak and Quarantine occur exclusively in the World, the main characters being Kite, Black rose, and so on.
there's also .hack//DUSK (Tasogare no Udewa Densetsu - Legend of the Twilight Bracelet), but it's a dinky add-on in an attempt to garner further revenue, and has nothing to do really with the original plotline of .hack, unless you like to see Balmung twinked for about 10 of the 12 episodes.
There's .hack//GIFT, which is a short ova (on the last game I believe) which is a gag ep, and there's also another 1 episode .hack ova where the characters of //SIGN and the games actually meet, which was rather interesting, and ties up one or two of the remaining loose ends of the game and series.
Rhysus:
Galaxy Express 999, I remember bits and pieces of that. I remember watching it when I was younger, on the SciFi channel as well. Thinking back on it now, I remember it was pretty good, though I'm wondering if it either never really interested me then or if I could never manage to watch it from the beginning because of channel surfing, that I never saw all of it. Thanks for reminding me, I'll need to check that out later as well to at least refresh my memory.

I think I saw an advert for that //SIGN and //Infection et al. crossover thing. Hmm.
Shiri2005-04-01 23:53:24
And now my anime-watching is going to be curtailed by parent's rearrival at home and subsequent inability to effectively access PC. Le sigh.
But on the plus side I got .hack//Mutation. Now let's see if I didn't accidentally delete my whole //Infection file.

YES. And Iria, and um... a lot of stuff. It always came on Saturdays. Probably how I started enjoying anime, aside from waking up early to watch Dragonball Z on some channel at 6 AM (I was little! DBZ was good then).
And then broadband came... I'm still drooling over this 500kb/sec I get with my new ISP. Take that, Shiri! I just wish more anime were available via direct connection, though I -guess- 100-200kb a second isn't bad on BitLord.
My friend told me to watch Samurai Deeper Kyo and Heat Guy J (Not sure if this was in manga form)... so I'm going to suggest those for today.
Shiri2005-04-02 00:09:16
Heh, I have 2MB per sec down here. Just not upstairs.
Unknown2005-04-02 00:24:41
2MB is too much. Are you paying extra or something?
Maybe I should get a booster (That or pay the extra money for more speed, but it's not necessary).

Shiri2005-04-02 09:23:56
No, we're not paying extra, but we have some ridiculous freaking download limit. It's pathetic, it's like 500MB. But I don't think my parents know it's there, so I can keep going and pay the weeny bit extra.
Shoshana2005-04-02 10:15:41
I'm on 8MB per second and have a download limit that I've never reached, and if I did we'd only get put onto 512k until the end of the month .
I quite liked Vandread, once I looked up what was going on (I only saw the second half of the first series). I seem to recall thinking it's more a series which girls would enjoy, despite the fanservice... In terms of the jokes made at the expense of the couple of guys on the ship at least. I might be remembering wrong though, it was a while ago...

Episode 1 of .hack//SIGN probably woulda confused the Nil outta me if I hadn't played the game, but I have, so it looks pretty cool!
EDIT: Gods is this torrent slow though. 4 at once and I'm getting a combined download of 17kb/s. It was going about 10 times faster yesterday. It's lost most of the connected peers now. Darn Americans!

That's actually not too bad... You should try downloading 25 episodes of Naruto at a time when the fastest it ever goes is about 10kb/s *twitch*. And then the torrent gets taken down when you're at 83% because it got licensed . Couldn't they have waited a couple more weeks to announce it?
Whee, I just changed tense about three times in one paragraph .

I'm still getting Naruto. Just finished 126-7 combination. (That bone forest thing rocked, whatever was going on there.)
And how about you try downloading a 1.3 gig torrent made of two parts, finish the first part, and when you get to 99.5% of the second part, no one has the last 0.5% and there are no seeds so you're just sat there waiting. Yeah, that's what I'm doing now.

yee, .hack//SIGN is now on television (YTV) But only one episode a week *mutter*

Isn't Naruto Dragonballish?

Ha. Talk to me sometime. I have episodes 1-85 still on my second hard drive and my PC stays on all the time. I just never seed it because well.. Lusternia.
I can probably get the other 15 episodes if you'd like or point you to a decent torrent, if it's still up. Mine will be at least when you want it.
--------
Naruto > DBZ.
It's only DBZ-like because Kishimoto loved the Dragonball series as a kid. The manga owns though. I don't think the episodes can compare, especially with the editing they do. Did you know Gatou's head was cut off by Zabuza? Or that guy in the Wave Village actually had his arms cut off?
(The above was directed at people who watch Naruto.)
