Oh. Well, you can call me Ben or even my full name (if you can spell it, muaha) if you want, just be prepared to confuse people other than me.

Im surprised no one has mentioned yet the glorious wonder of Hikaru No Go!

heehee

Im a total fan of Touya Akira. So cute and yet so restrained... its adorable! Oh, and they play Igo... and stuff... yeah, its kinda the point of the manga/anime... meh... lost my rant... and have been fined for overuse of elipsis... curses...

My brother got Hikaru no Go, one episode of it. It looked utterly boring to me. huh.gif Oh, Shaman King looks like it might be interesting, Scryed seems okay, ZOE - Dolores i looks okay, Escaflowne has horrible horrible art but might be okay anyway...
Shoshana2005-04-11 13:24:57
Yay! I like HikaGo biggrin.gif They are so totally in love with each other *snicker*. I still remember the bit where Akira's been basically stalking Hikaru because he won't play him, and they're having this whole confrontation where Akira's all like "Why won't you play me?!" and the entire anime club I was watching it with was cracking up because it's SO incredibly slashy... I have a huge folder of Hikaru/Akira pics too biggrin.gif I haven't seen the end yet, only up to maybe episode 50?
Akraasiel2005-04-12 05:04:05
strangely I have more Hika/Akira doujins than my entire collection of the actual manga (which is the whole series)
Shoshana2005-04-12 05:31:19
Yeah, I have quite a few as well. I've also got this fanvideo thingy, which is one of the first episodes with the subtitles changed to make a different, slashy, story, which is absolutely hilarious because it fits perfectly (As long as you don't know enough of/pay attention to the Japanese).

Oh, have you got the manga of Loveless? The anime's just started coming out, I've got the first episode of it. Veerry pretty drool.gif

Heh... Are we in agreement that Star Wars, the Clone Wars is animish?

Anime, anime.. Lets see... Saw Akira when I was around 6 and was scarred for life, didn't touch anime for a long time after that until 4-5th grade with Dragonball. I can still recall talking to a friend, and he was saying, "You know that guy with the fire move? He is going to kill Frieza. You know, Freeze-a? Ice? Fire?" Heh..

About Junior High I was one road trip with a Boy Scout troop and one of the guys had brought Golden Boy along for the ride. We had a spare 6 hours, popped them in, and I don't think I had laughed that hard in a long time. Only 6 episodes, but was damn funny at the time. Still decent after all these years. Warning- Don't watch with parents around, it closes the line between porn and anime and flips it off.

First real anime I watched was Armitage, both of them around the same time. Got me really involved, and since then I've bought Hellsing, Love Hina, and My Goddess. Downloaded tons of others. Hmm.. Inuyasha gets good marks, Naruto is interesting, and I was sort of disappointed with Hellsing. Love Hina got repeatitive after awhile... What else... Hmm..

Get back to you guys in a bit.

I kind of know what you mean by Akira, though it was a strange situation for me. I can't remember it that clearly, but I was with my dad at some convention or show (either a computer show or the only star trek con I ever went to) in mid-connecticut, and we passed by a weird area filled with strange cartoons. To this day I still remember passing by a television and watching some guy become a giant brain-like thing. It bothered me for years and years, wondering what it was. Even after watching rather butchered series like Technoman (Tekkaman Blade) and stuff on TV, I really couldn't forget it.

It wasn't until Akira was remastered and re-released that I got to watch it again (Saw trigun before it and got hooked, and was happy to note Johnny young Bosch did the voice of a main character of Akira in the re-release) and realized that was what bugged me for so many years.

Armitage Polymatrix was my first venture into the world of Armitage, I think it was on SciFi also, and I thought it was good, but realized it was butchered. Thankfully Pioneer (now Geneon) released the OVA version which filled in a few of the holes, as they released the new Armitage movie also.

Love Hina was ok, but not one of my favorites. A friend of mine would say otherwise, but I'll leave that for him if he would like to respond later, read a bit of my goddess, though it didn't interest me that much. Hellsing did at first, but that's because I never watched it past the 5-6th episode or so, once I did I realized that it was rather sub-par and sold my dvds for it to get start another series at a local DVD store.

I remember reading some of the Hikaru no Go manga a while back, seemed interesting, though the group scanlating it were kind of slow, and I sort of lost it amongst the pile of other things I was reading through at the time. Kind of a shame, I should probably pick it up again. Need to figure out if that Ghost ever does get a life in any way. happy.gif

I really hated Akira. (I might have said this earlier in the thread, but. *cough*) It was boring, unnecessarily violent (by that I mean people dying for no reason, I certainly don't mind gore and violence, but it's dull when it happens for no reason, so to speak), with no really good plot, and just overall lame. I know I'm going to be assassinated in my sleep for saying this, but Akira is probably the worst anime I've seen to date.
Unknown2005-04-14 04:32:37
Don't worry. I didn't like it much either. The best part in it, however, is when everyone was slapped hard in the face and the guy was like "DISMISSED!"
Unknown2005-04-14 10:24:29
Akira is the worst anime you've seen to date...

You must not follow fansubs of what has come out in Japan over the last 2 years honestly wink.gif

Granted, I don't see Akira as something to blow the japanese animation industry out of the water, but it was also rather mutilated. You have to figure, where did it come from? Several rather large volumes of manga, crammed into a few hours.

Then again, Angel Sanctuary one-upped that even. 90 minutes spanning 6 volumes, without even attempting to switch things around to make any sense. blink.gif
Akraasiel2005-04-15 05:07:52
the angel sanctuary anime blew though. it was like the first half volume of the manga. I was so disappointed.

Its what spawned my hatred for anime vs manga
Unknown2005-04-15 05:58:04
When I said angel sanctuary one-upped Akira, I had meant in the mutilation department. It was just mutilated so much so the story was compressed and not even finished.

Speaking of Anime Series that don't finish or just stop at a point where you might as well be hanging off of a vehicle undergoing HALO operations *rips hair out for buying the Kare Kano DVDs a while back*

I wonder if anyone is looking forward to the new Full Metal Alchemist movie. Looks interesting, and we get to see Al in the red jacket now biggrin.gif
Shiri2005-04-25 21:19:41
Wait, what? What about an FMA movie? frenzy.gif

Image is not my own works, and is from http://www.fullmetal-alchemist.com/ and wherever they got it from as such.

And yes. There will be a movie happy.gif
Shiri2005-04-25 21:34:59
Good.

FMA had a cruddy ending, I want it fixing. tongue.gif
Unknown2005-04-25 21:36:34
To be fair, it was the anime series of FMA that had a cruddy ending.

I don't think the manga has reached near the point that the anime had gotten to. And it should have a different ending, given how different Homonculus are in the manga. Also they seem to be spinning Hoenhime a different way in the manga.
Shiri2005-04-25 22:05:26
Yeah, Shoshy told me about the divergent endings there. It's actually quite sad. :/

Personally I seem to like the manga storyline better (I almost always do though).

The manga's almost always explain more, or give more purpose to the characters. Like in the manga, they have a very good reason for trying to find a way for Al to return to his normal body. Not just that it isn't his own, or he's practically a golem, but a very real and very serious reason.

The manga also seems to manage to make Ed and Al's situations somehow bleaker as well. Which for some reason I really enjoy, as if and when they triumph, it's all the better for them.

The following /may/ be considered spoilers, but only if you pay attention to very particular details in the series, or already have an idea of what's happening, so it probably won't hurt I would guess anyway.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In one situation, Ed actually needs to go dig up what it was He and Al created on that fateful day. What he finds out is almost more of a shock than how the anime played out what they created.

They also seem to delve deeper into a particular force 'behind the gate,' which was only depicted as an unimportant big eye in the series, but has a much larger role in the manga so far.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I'd black out the background and text if I knew how to change backgrounds on the board, or if there was a spoiler tag I could use. dunno.gif
