And cowboy bepop needs to make more seasons dammit!

No more Bebop! It ended perfectly.

I can't stand anime. It's all the same, once you've seen one you've seen them all. A pile of writhing, cliched bull.
Shiri2004-12-11 21:01:39
WRONGGGGG. It has a similar art style, but saying all anime's the same is like saying, for example, that all MUDs are the same. Certain similarities in genre, even, don't make it all "cliched bull." Compare something like Cowboy Bebop to something like Naruto, say.

Anime are more akin to the Western concept of cinema than anything else. Cinema gives us drama, romance, comedy, action, masterpieces, substanceless junk, and porn. Anime does the same.
If all you've seen are serialized commercial anime, well, that's the same as only watching flash-in-the-pan summer blockbusters. I personally hate most of the mass-produced crap marketed as anime, but that's because it's just that, mass-produced crap.
Some people don't do chick flicks, some don't do anime, whatever. But if you're going to judge it, judge it by the peaks and not the valleys. If you can watch a Studio Ghibli production and then say anime is junk, okay. Just make sure you're not judging it from the morning cartoon lineup.

I used to be really into anime, but looking back on it, I'd have to agree with Guido.
Nonetheless, I still like Love Hina quite a bit. Excel Saga amuses me to no end. And Photon: The Idiot Adventures was quite amusing as well.

I haven't seen very much anime, but from what I've seen...
Spirited Away.
Spirited Away.
Unknown2004-12-12 05:48:53
Aye, a multitude of years ago I was really into Dragon Ball Z
And however much I disdain Anime, it has spawned one good thing. Something starting with an H, ending with a I, and that would get be banned from the forums for posting any of.

I think that's tied with Brazil for movies I've watched way too many times because they were just that good.

I can understand people not liking anime because they don't like the style, or having to read subtitles (or listen to the dubs) or something like that, each to their own. But I can't help thinking that people who say they don't like anime because it's all the same and cliched are like people saying "I don't like television, because all the shows are the same and cliched." There's just as much variance in anime as in other fictional television, probably even moreso as you have far more freedom to do whatever you like in animation than with real life people. If you want anime that doesn't have cliches, don't watch the kid's stuff that gets shown on morning TV, watch something like Fullmetal Alchemist (Which I believe is currently being shown on American TV, although I hear that a lot of people think they stuffed up Ed's voice in the dub).
What I love about anime is the storylines, that usually there's one storyline throughout the series rather than the creators just trying to make it last as long as possible in order to make money (Not that this doesn't happen in anime *coughinuyashacough* but I don't like those ones overly much). It's like a movie, only with 13 or 26 (or 51 in FMA's case) episodes, which allows for far more twists and turns than a movie could ever have, all without losing the sense of purpose. It's like watching a book

Overall favorites:
Neon Genesis Evangelion (Very wow. )
Mononoke Hime (Usually what I use to introduce people to anime.)
Record of Lodoss War (The music, and the chibi intermissions.)
Headscratcher:
Midnight Detective (Are they spoofing the genre? I can't tell... Anyhow, the series went poof in the middle of things for lack of interest, I think.)
The nosebleed section :
Love Hina (Too, too funny.)
Onegai Teacher, Twins (Excellent depth of emotion, I think.)
Chobits (A story about a boy and his girl-shaped computer. Funny, though.)
For amazing eye candy:
Blue Submarine #6 (Not just the CGI.)
Wonderful Days (Mostly just the CGI. Korean anime.)
Final Fantasy, The Spirits Within (Just the CGI. Calling it anime might offend some purists. Meh.)

Argh, Shoshana, you gotta tell me where you're gettin' all those awesome avatars! 0_o I had to steal that "SMILE! It confuses people" one for my MSN, replacing the Kodama picture Mary found *hum*.

I find Ghost in teh Shell: Stand Alone Complex to be quite interesting. I've got the first DVD of it...waiting for more before I reserve judgement.
Shiri2004-12-13 19:12:41
I wish A ) That that anime was out in England, so I could buy it, or B ) I could get a stupid MKV player to work without spazzing out and dying so I could actually WATCH those darn movies, I can't find them in AVI or anything >_<
Shiri2004-12-19 23:52:12
Wait, there's only gonna be 51 FMA episodes? I missed that! Nooo!
Also, the new Naruto episodes are awesome. It's about time something interesting happened. (Naruto kicking Sasuke's arse was awesome ) I've always seen Naruto as like DBZ...but...good. It kinda proved it!
Also, Rurouni Kenshin appears to rock, but having seen only 25 episodes, it really needs a cohesive plotline, since up till now they seem to be like entirely filler episodes. Yahiko/Kaoru/thatdoctorgal gets threatened/kidnapped etc. by some cool swordsguy, Kenshin comes in, gets beat up a bit, then kicks their arses. Hmm. Anyone tell me if it stays like that? I wanna see FMA before I see the rest of Kenshin, see

Series: Cowboy Bebop, Escaflowne. No question. I also enjoyed Love Hina (though I rathered the manga) and GitS.
Movies: Anything by Studio Ghibli. My Neighbours the Yamadas or whatever it's called is the only one I haven't been able to get myself into out of all the movies I've seen, and that's mainly because of the animation style.
