If I wanted to watch social commentary featuring flat characters that exemplify the various stereotypes of geeks in japanese culture, I'd watch a documentary. The story, or what little there is of it, only exists as a backdrop upon which to present these stereotypical characters. Hikikomori, child abuse victim, otaku, suicidal emo girl.

The only reason I watched the entire thing through (or will soon, I'm on the second to last episode) after realizing how crappy I found it, was because I needed to watch something worthless to make the next series I saw that much more interesting.

My Anime pick of the week: Claymore. I'm up to Episode 4 so far (though there are only 7 episodes out at the moment) and I'm loving it.

Kinda bloody, and with a medieval setting, so if you can't stand a little blood or bodily harm, it might not be the anime for you.

Claymore seems a bit typical to me so far, but we'll see if it diverges any. Try Darker than Black, Wesmin.

Finished Genshiken; great anime! I sympathise with all the characters somehow.

And...next thing I'm gonna watch is El Cazador De La Bruja. Hope it's better than Noir, couldn't get into that.

Deathnote was ok, the part with L and Kira was better then the second part. It got repetitive after that and eh, I just couldn't watch it. Genshiken is awesome, it's very funny, I love it. Claymore from what I read, which was little, didn't seem to go out that much, it seemed just like the typical monster slayer type of manga, though the anime could be different.

Yeah, I agree. But there's only about 8 episodes left until it's finished, so if it doesn't end well it's not wasted that much of my time; may as well finish it now that it's this far in.
Yep. I have a friend who's exactly like Ohno, too. Made me blink seeing her in the anime.

Unfortunately, the anime fits that description exactly. :(

To me it seems more about the 'Silver eyed witches' and their lives, and their struggles with their humanity. The fact that they slay monsters seems trivial to me, it's just a back-drop.

I don't really watch anime, but the one film I really like is Jin-Roh.

Started watching Gilgamesh. Kinda neat.

Also rewatched evangelion, am now having nightmares about a giant armoured pair of legs or Unit 00 chasing me around my house, despite the fact that my house is smaller than one foot, while wearing pink tutu and howling for snuggles, momma. In a bad german accent, of course.

German seems to be the new 'hip' thing in Japanese anime. Fate Stay Night's 'magical' words were mostly german.
