Great anime:
Berserk! (Ooooh, butcher at work And soundtrack is great too.)
Great Teacher Onizuka (School can be a dangerous place... for teachers. But not for G T O !)
Golden Boy ! (Only six episodes, but so cool)
Ninja Scroll (A lot of blood and samurais moving with lightspeed)
Cowboy Bebop, series and movie (Quite realistic, big variety of themes. Meet the best hacker in the world - Ein the dog. I said -quite- realistic, didn't I?
Fullmetal Panic (Yes, Chidori was very pretty, but Mao (I believe that was her name) with her violet eyes... )
Fullmetal Alchemist (really nice ideas)
Initial D (all series and a movie, although 1st stage was the best)
Ghost in the Shell 1, 2, SAC
Hellsing (Vampire with style. I like that)
Vampire Hunter D Bloodlust (1st one too actually)
Akira
Patlabor 2, 3
Trigun
Spriggan
Spirited Away (I thought it's gonna be like old Disney's productions at first... I was so wrong)
Final Fantasy The Spirits Within (It's still anime!)
and... The Transformers The Movie (1986 or so) (awesome, not like the TV series crap. OST is one of the greatest compilations I've ever heard)
Poor:
Wolf's Rain (it had potential I think, but it was just stupid and boring... although the song in opening was great. "Strays" or sth)
Witch Hunter Robin (boooooring, especially after about 10 episodes)
Tokyo Underground (come on...)
X (says a lot, eh?)
Somewhere between:
Noir (quite nice music)
Neon Genesis Evangelion (not so bad, but... first child, second child? It was so cheap)
Serial Experiments Lain (I just don't know what to think about that one)
Samurai Deeper Kyo (decent)
So there's actually a lot of good anime out there

Hehe, I liked Witch Hunter Robin... It took a little while for the storyline to start up but it was pretty good after that I thought. But each to their own, of course
Shiri, if you're using bittorrent I wouldn't worry about the speed. It's based on how many people are around to share the file, so it fluctuates a lot... Although 51 episodes is gonna take a long time no matter how fast it's going! The DVDs start coming out (In the USA at least) either this month or in April, I can't remember which .

Oi, that sucks, we're gonna get it like a year later than America whatever else so it'll be like a whole year. Nooo!
Also, yeah, it fluctuates a lot...from froggin' 6KB to 10KB... Normally it goes at like 50kb when I'm D/Ling about every other torrent thing, Naruto & Bleach eps etc...
Nika2005-01-01 14:19:12
Ok, I'm going to add to my list pretty much everything Shiri and Shoshana have said, and a few others ones as well.
Examples.. Well, today we were watching Mai-HiME. I have a couple of episodes of Kyou Kara Maou that I still need to give back to Shoshana. There's two Gravitation mangas sitting on the desk next to me, one Love Hina in my bedroom and an Excel Saga one in my bag. Fun!

Update: Bleach = awesome. It's probably my new favourite anime already. Partially because of the awesome opening theme AND that thing with the psycho stuffed-lion thing.

Also, FMA needs to friggin' come out in England soon so I can buy the damn thing, because it is BEYOND annoying trying to download 8 GB of the stuff at 5KB a second, because Bittorrent doesn't suck enough already!

Find me a good (free) hosting solution. I've got allllll 51 episodes waiting. And all of Naruto.
Planetes is also good, awesome animation, nice story, actually pretty realistic.
Shiri2005-01-02 12:37:24
Hell yeah, I need the proper version of that soon, I just managed to find MP3s of "Viva Rock" and "Seishun Kyousoukyoku" and all the rest from Naruto, and I can't stop playing the former over and over again.
"Sekkaijuhora waraterru sora miagete sagachiagette >_<" (or whatever it is, I don't have lyrics, that's just what I hear .)
Also, yeah, but I HAVE all of Naruto, because when I download from ANBU it goes at like 50KBS like it's meant to instead of friggin' 5. So it's FMA I need. Never heard of planetes though, will have to give that a look too.
EDIT: Also, they translated whatever the heck that Uryuu guy in Bleach is really badly. I mean, what, really. Quincy? What kinda lame name for a dude with a cool cross/bow thing like that is that anyway? They should at least have left it as...kuinshi or whatever it was originally. Darn Lunar and their subbing. Also they can't translate that G-O-O-D-BYE thing in the Bleach opening sequence properly, I've seen all sorts of retarded version now.

Quincy is destroying San Antonio!
Gosh, Shiri. Quincy is such a powerful name, y'know?

Shiri2005-01-02 13:30:33
I have no idea what that San Antonio thing is about, but it just makes me think of quiche, you know. Or quince. Or something. Whatever it is, conjuring images of meat pies doesn't exactly earn him my respect. *eye Uryuu*
Nika2005-01-02 13:35:56
Gah.. Watch more Strongbad emails, buddeh.
Shiri2005-01-02 13:39:31
Oh yeah, now I remember. I should go listen to them again. That...Dangeresque too thing was the best. Or dennis and the ramparts, I can't decide.
Nika2005-01-02 13:44:03
*grin* Yes. The oldies are classic, though.
TROGDOOOOOORRR!!!

Everyone is different. No two people are not on fire.
And as far as the Quincy thing, that's not the subber's fault. It says 'quincy' in the Manga. Vol. whatever it was has, in English, on the cover: "QUINCY ARCHER HATES YOU". Plus, that's how they pronounce it: kuinshi, if I'm not mistaken.
What episode of FMA do you have? I might have bandwidth on my .Mac account to spare...
EDIT: Nika, pleeeeease change your avatar! Too cute, makes me want to get a kitten even more. But I can't. Stupid rules. KITTEN!!

Okay, it's not the subber's fault. It's just a really lame translation.
Leave it as kuinshi, dangit. Also, I think Shinigami sounds better as "soul reaper" than "death god." Even though that's actually a worse translation.
No episodes of FMA, although I did watch 1-12 once. (But they were in mute, with subs, because I had no idea about media playing then. Still don't, but I can play that file at least. ) And the torrent isn't downloading the eps individually, handily, it's downloading them ALL at the same time, basically. HOW HELPFUL. NOT.

Hehehe. Phear the Kristmas Kitty.
I am a bit behind, though. Time for a change I think.

Alright, I'm going to upload FMA number 1 and hope the bandwidth doesn't die, I'll PM you when it's done.
EDIT: right after posting, I remembered it was on my other hard drive. I'll upload it tomorrow, then PM you when it's done.

If you're really going to be generous enough to do that, I'd have to recommend you emailed it to my gmail account, as I'm 99% sure a forum account that can store 50 messages doesn't have quite enough room for an anime episode.
Unknown2005-01-03 17:48:07
.Mac has a 5MB attachment limit for email, whereas I have 215 MB of space on my "internet hard drive" that comes with it. I just haven't quite figured out what the bandwidth limit on the web sharing part is, but, hey, now's the time to figure it out.
Melanchthon2005-01-10 05:57:47
Just finished the first 7 episodes of Haibane Renmei...so far, it's really good.
The only thing that was vaguely iffy was the opening credits...fanshots inspire within me a mingled berserk hatred and longing for actual content rather than gratuity. Reading the jacket comments about low angle camera shots for Hikari while riding the scooter didn't help, either.
Anyway, did Kuu and Reki remind anyone else of younger and older versions of Niea and Mayuko, respectively?

I'm really enjoying the new Ghost in the Shell Series. They raise so many good questions about people's nature.
Shoshana2005-01-10 09:45:10
I like the two Ghost in the Shell movies, but I'm finding the series really hard to follow, probably mostly because I'm only seeing one episode per week. The movies were fine because they were relatively short, so there wasn't too much that I had to remember and I only had to concentrate on it for a few hours, but the series is much too complicated for poor little me .
I've just noticed that I appear to have completely and utterly missed page 3... So because I can't resist I'm going to answer stuff on it now :
Shiri, it's ironic that you say Al sounds like an 8 year-old girl in the English considering that he's played by a boy about his age, whereas I believe Japanese!Al is an adult woman . Not that I've heard the FMA dub, but from what I've heard about it most people were more annoyed with Ed's voice...
I've seen Evangelion (It was the first anime I ever watched), and it was pretty cool but it does require a loooot of thinking, and (IMHO) it's best to see End of Evangelion pretty soon afterwards. Some people think it's a work of pure genius and some people thing it's a pile of so it's best to check it out yourself and see what you think. I think it's worth watching, but I much prefer something like FMA myself .
