I REALLY liked Tenjou Tenge! I was -really- depressed that it cut off at like 23/24 episodes, because I really wanted to know more.

I just couldn't get past the fact that everyone in this world was completely nonchalant about all these kids at this high school having world shattering powers. And no one seemed to think it was strange that Maya walked around looking like she was eight.
The intro credits were kind of amusing, though. One of the select few that I usually watched without fast forwarding.

Death Note started out strong but got very dull... I was a little disappointed, as the first few episodes were very, very cool.
Yeah, the manga followed the same pattern...the ending was so boring I actually made Sojiro get me the last bit of the manga so I could see if it was any better there (it was, but only like an increase from 2/10 to 3/10.
Black Cat actually predates Darker than Black, which it does resemble, but I think Darker than Black is slightly more adult (and "trippy"). I thought it was gonna be good but it ended up just being typical. Oh well. xxxholic is very cute!

You guys don't know badass until you've watched Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann.
Yeah, it's a mecha anime, but man, it was awesome, specially in the latter episodes. Even if you're not normally into mecha, you should watch it.

Gantz is pretty cool, though I enjoyed the manga so much more.
If you like ninjas... take a look at Basilisk. It was pretty good. The love story they've woven into it doesn't quite make the move a bad one.
Some other ones I've watched..
Claymore (Similiar to Berserk in ways.)
Berserk (Manga is extremely good. The anime just doesn't go to the same extent, not even halfway.)
Basilisk
The oldie, Ninja Scroll
Solty Rei
Air Gear
Paradise Kiss (Since I'm a Fashion Major in college, I especially loved this one)
Mononoke (Not to be confused with Princess Mononoke)
Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei (You want something thats f'd up.. watch this..)
Dragonaut - The Resonance (Anything with dragons is awesome in my book)
I suscribe to Anime Takeout which is like Netflix but soley for anime, manga, and some live action movies from Japan.
Enjoy!

Not sure if these have been mentioned, but these series are pretty good
Eyeshield 21
Bleach
Naruto
D.G.M. (D. Gray Man)
The Melancholy of Haruri
Samurai Champloo
Shaman King
A lot of the older ones mentioned are classics as well, meaning Rurouni Kenshin (Samurai X) etc., but if anymore come to mind, I'll post em here!
I tend to read the manga for all these more than watch the anime, cos I tend not to d/l heavily, but yep!

Besides, I really like when the creators know exactly how many episodes their creation will have, and put as many in as it is necessary instead of pumping them out for as long as they can keep it going, like the popular Shonen fighting series tend to do. As a side note - if neverending fighting series (like Bleach, Naruto or DBZ as an older offender) are about, well, fighting, then how come I have yet to see one which has genuinely entertaining fights? While they are a good device to advance the plot or show off a character's new cool moves/techniques, they are rarely cool on their own, lacking dynamism. That creates an amusing situation where the best battle scenes actually occur in series that have little to do with fighting, like Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya or the aforementioned FLCL.
There've been some... just to name some, Lee vs Kimimaro, Ichigo vs Zaraki. Most are crappy though, that's true.
xxxHolic is so ugly, I don't know if I'll be able to start watching it.
Shiri2007-11-09 08:18:15
Lee vs. Kimimaro is the only one I could think of that was any good too, funnily enough.
xxxholic is freakin' hideous animation-wise, but the concept is kind of charming so I got over it.

Rock Lee vs Kimimaro bored me out of my mind. Not because of Lee, he's awesome, but because of Kimimaro. Ichigo vs Zaraki was okay, but too long.
A really cool fight should be short, brutal and intensive. Everything that's longer than half an episode doesn't qualify. In my opinion, the best fight in Naruto (as an example of fighting anime) was the first "real" one - Sasuke, Naruto and Kakashi versus the Demon Brothers. Sakura was useless of course, but that's nothing new.

This is the best fight in the entire Naruto series.

This is the best fight in the entire Naruto series.
I didn't watch the youtube link, I only saw the episode number. So just to make sure - this is Naruto vs Sasuke, right? If it is, then I disagree. It was so mind-numbingly boring for me that I was hoping one of them would drop dead at the climax. Preferably Sasuke, the Gary Stu. Plus, his curse-transformation-thing makes him look really stupid.
EDIT: Male Mary Sue = Gary Stu or Marty Stu. Not Garty.
DOUBLE EDIT: The fight had its high points I gotta admit, and it was quite dynamic - at first. But it simply took too long, and it went all Dragonball Stupid at the end. And I don't even mention the fact that we had to go through many, many episodes of boring almost-filler fights with stupid Disney Deaths (read: they aren't really deaths but look like that at first) for everyone in the team. And every fight with Kimimaro in it = instant fail.
Okay, Chouji's fight was alright, I have to admit.

That was the initial fight, before Sasuke turned into a retarded looking whatever he's supposed to be. Watching the link would have been helpful.
If all fights in the Naruto series had been paced like this particular section of the episode, the series would have been a lot better. No internal commentary, no talking during the actual fighting, fast paced combat that's fully animated and does not rely on the anime fight cliches, etc.
EDIT: The intro credits stop at 1:25, and the segment I'm talking about ends at about ~4:00.

Eh,
Naruto is pretty decent. Sadly, I enjoy the history and how their world works (kinda) more than the fighting.
I heard the second set of Hellsing, the Ultimate Version (OVA?) is much better than the first set. Although, I really enjoy the manga more compared to the few episodes I've watched.
Fullmetal Alchemist is pretty good as well.
Edit: I will say that Chouji's fight is one of the better fights in Naruto.
Edit2: I suspect I have another comment hidden somewhere in this topic. Since then, my views may have changed.
Edit3: Deathnote is fun for the whole family.

That first segment is the 'fight' I'm referring to. Not the entire encounter.

Correct. They do this for a LOT of shows and it drives me insane. Fullmetal Alchemist and Gantz are two major victims of this (not that I really liked Gantz anyway, but Daevos kept insisting I watch it). Both of them had really terrible endings compared to the quality of the rest of the series. Fruits Basket ran from 1999-2006, but the anime only lasted through 2001.
Wait, another victim: xxxholic. I liked that show a lot! As far as it went. AND THE ENDING SUCKED TOO. What a boring last episode. Xiran keeps trying to make me read the manga, but it's such a flawed medium I can't enjoy it at all. It's like the worst parts of books and anime. No sense of action like in the anime, and no ability to use well-written prose like in real books. So frustrating.

I firmly believe that there are only two possible reasons that anyone would dislike Gantz.
1. They are obviously flawed in some way.
2. They watched the anime rather than read the manga.

2.
Reiha2007-11-10 01:34:04
I stopped reading Gantz because it was starting to lose its "realism" for me, and getting cheesy with the vampires.
Some favorite anime shows:
-Arjuna
-Escaflowne
-Rahxephon
-Paranoia Agent
-Vampire Princess Miyu
-Gintama
-The Big O (Until the last two or three episodes. Ugh.)
-Excel Saga
-Fushigi Yuugi (back in the day)
I have a lot more favorite mangas because I don't bother watching them when they become cartoons, usually.

What I like in Naruto is tactics in combat. Maybe it's not that big, but it's there, as opposed to Bleach where combat is as simple as it can get (more flashy though).
Eww, no way. Old Hellsing is the only Hellsing for me.
And Gantz. It was awesome, but I can't say why. When I think of it, it was quite dumb, but I had to keep watching, there was just something in it. Anime based opinion. Will get to manga since it goes farther.

Do you know how many times I've watched both.. and for the life of me... each time I get to the end I'm like.. wtf? The same with Paranoia Agent and ef - A tale of Memories.
Don't get me wrong, they were good.. but yea..
Oh, here are some more that I've liked.
Tenchi Muyo
Nadia (Yes, finally! A black chick in anime! Woot!)
Bamboo Blade (Funny)
Night Wizard (Can't remember if I listed this one already)
Blue Drop (just started it... but it seems interesting so far)
I have seen -alot- of anime..
You want to read a good manga though... read Berserk.. anyone who wants to I can get the site that lets you read it w/o d/ling it. Just message me.
