Talked to an old Achaean friend this morning, since I noticed he signed on MSN with a Kyon avatar (I have one too atm ninja.gif). Seems he has the same taste as me, so I got directed to a few places with other interesting stuff.

Seirei no Moribito: looks great. Actual decent action sequence in the 3rd episode, plot might be interesting, etc. Have to DL the rest to see how it goes. Fantasy stuff, I hope it doesn't go all ScraPrin/Utawarerumono on me despite how much I liked those series.
GITS SAC 2gig: Same as most GITS, still awesome.
Gunslinger girl: can't work out what to compare it to other than Black Lagoon with zero comedy. Black Lagoon was more of a dark humour kind of thing, this is more of a realistic horror. Italian govt. organisations brainwashing kids to become assassins. Deadly serious seinen stuff here, no Naruto BS so far.
Doujin work: short episode format augh!? Amuses me a bit anyway though. Standard.
Yume Tsukai: kind of standard and nothing unusual, but this time in a bad way. Maybe I'll struggle through it to see if it improves.
Kanon/Outlaw Star/Hataraki Man: haven't watched yet, what should I expect going into it?
Tengen Toppa Gurenn Lagann: I normally find mecha mindnumbing (hated Evangelion and its clones), Sojiro is making me check this out though so I'll remember at some point or other.

So about a month later and now that Nejii has finally finished the series, he agrees that it is quite the awesome and epic anime. Watch now.
Shiri2007-12-22 05:11:50
Yep. Starts out slow, but becomes easily the most ridiculously over-the-top epic (in a good way) shounen anime everrrr.

EDIT: I should note now that I see those comments that Kanon made me cry
Unknown2007-12-22 05:27:13
xxxHolic's appeal is in it's style! Which really shines through in manga form. XP

give me a site to watch it and I will
Shiri2007-12-22 06:11:23
I can't check because I'm not American, but apparently this website is streaming this exact anime as part of trying out a new business model or something. English subtitles!

Lucky you.

This thread reminds me that I need to watch Cowboy Bebop again. <3 Cowboy Bebop. And the movie is just solid gold icing on an already glorious cake.

I've been staring at my copy of Knocking on Heaven's Door the last few days, pondering if I should put it in and watch it. Me and Raiha have also been watching Gundam Wing the past few days, and I'm very into it again. Good stuff. content.gif

I've also been in the mood watch Zoids, this anime I used to watch before school of a morning back in High school. No idea where to find it, though.
Shiri2007-12-22 06:40:31
The new Gundam series (Gundam 00) is some good by the way, give that a shot too.

I performed a herculean task and noted not just my favourites, but ALL the anime I was watching. I may have missed a title or two, but ~90% of what I watched is on the list, so feel free to point and laugh how un-geeky I am because I didn't see this or that.
Rating scale:
Didn't like - obvious. I didn't like it, wouldn't want to watch again either.
Was OK - I don't consider watching it a waste of time but probably I won't do it again unless I won't have anything better to do.
Liked - I enjoyed it and will gladly watch again. This is the "default" because I am easy to entertain but hard to really impress, and also because I put borderline cases here. Such as Cowboy Bebop: borderline between Liked and...
Liked a lot - one of my personal favourites.

Now the list.

Series:
Dragonball - normal, Z, GT: Liked, was OK for GT. Mea culpa, I was young and stupid. Would probably be OK at best today, but I still regret nothing.
Naruto: Liked for the first ~100 episodes. Was oK at best now.
Noir: Liked
Hellsing: Was OK. Manga was better. I didn't watch the new Hellsing.
Fullmetal Alchemist: Liked a lot. #2 on my favourites list.
Trigun: Liked
Neon Genesis Evangelion: Liked a lot
Ghost in the Shell Stand Alone Complex: Liked
Ergo Proxy: Liked
Elfen Lied: Didn't like. I already explained why, I believe.
Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya: Liked a lot. My favourite anime so far.
Bleach: Liked. Retains its status despite filler.
FLCL: Liked a lot. #3 favourite.
Cowboy Bebop: Liked
Fullmetal Panic!: Liked. I didn't watch Second Raid yet and only a few Fumoffu episodes.

Movies:
Ghost in the Shell: Liked
Ghost in the Shell 2 Innocence: Liked a lot
Spirited Away: Liked
Grave of Fireflies: Liked, despite taking jabs at the kids' stupidity.
Princess Mononoke: Liked
Howl's Moving Castle: Was OK
Armitage 3 Dual Matrix: Was OK. Would probably make more sense to watch the first movie... well, first.
Wolf's Brigade: Liked
Beyond the Clouds (also known as Place We Promised to Return to One Day - maybe): Liked
Metropolis: Liked
Ninja Scroll: Didn't like. Not much left of the movie once you remove all the gore and disgusting or pornographic stuff.
Vampire Hunter D Bloodlust: Liked
Final Fantasy VII Last Order: Liked. I'd love if these guys animated the rest of the game.
Does Advent Children count? Liked, despite the cheesiness

Movies like End of Evangelion or FMA Conqueror of Shamballa do not count, I consider them parts of the series.

I didn't know there was a new one. ohmy.gif

I got to find it!

The new Hellsing is pretty awesome. Far better than the old one.

Absolutely. MSN/AIM me if you want and I'll show you. ninja.gif

EDIT @ Ashteru: Are we talking about the OVA here? I haven't seen that yet, only a couple episodes of the/one of the old series (which I couldn't manage to get through, too cheesy.)
Arix2007-12-24 09:20:36
The one with the tentacles that Shiri sent me a link to.

just kidding, I don't have a favorite anime

Yeah. It's such a big change to the Series! I saw a comparison-video on youtube or somewhere, comparing old and new scenes. Let me look for it.

EDIT: Here it is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dofJ1HwwTLg
Shiri2007-12-24 09:41:04
Hmm, interesting, I'll check that out then, thanks.
Iola2007-12-24 10:17:56
I hope this new one doesn't involve craptacular endings. I shall have to check it out somehow.
Unknown2007-12-24 11:04:01
Yeah, I heard a lot of good about the new Hellsing. After viewing the movie, I can gladly believe that.

Side note: the vampire in white whom Alucard offed looks like if he escaped from Dominic Deegan. Only without the nose-snout.
Shiri2007-12-24 12:02:13
Planetes is a damn good series by the way, don't think that got many votes. Very engaging sci-fi about debris collectors. Even the annoying characters are tolerable, and Fee and Hachimaki are great.
