Yesssss, people are getting into the awesomeness that is TTGL.

Your warcry should totally be "MINE IS THE DRILL THAT HAS PIERCED THE HAVENS!" happy.gif

I'm not a fan of anime, I just have these orphen dvds, the "Brigade Chief" armband from the collectors edition Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumia, a leaf village headband and kunai for no apparent reason.

I need more anime related collectables... YAY ANIMANIA IN A FEW WEEKS

I don't think I ever put this here but I finished watching Evangelion a while ago and quite liked it even though I'm still not a huge fan of anime as a whole. (That is to say, I liked it in spite of it being anime rather than liking it because it was anime.) So I recommend it!

I never did get to watch End of Evangelion though, couldn't find a torrent for that... maybe I can get it from netflix...

-Lucky Star. Funny, cute and VERY geeky. By now I am strongly leaning into thinking that Studio Kyoto simply cannot release anything bad/mediocre

QFT. I can't imagine why Sojiro doesn't like this one. The first episode really threw me off once I waited for them to stop blathering about chocolate cornets and the actual show to start, but somehow it caught me and I laughed through the whole series. Especially once Minoru started doing karaoke after Lucky Channel.

Regarding the KyoAni part though, the second half of Air was a load of nonsensical crap.

I'm at episode 21 at the moment.

Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann makes you cry tears of joy. MANLY tears of joy. I think it will AT LEAST beat Evangelion as my #4 favourite. Also, funny how the Gainax Curse (lack of funds) caught them as soon as the 4th episode. Luckily it lasted only for a single episode.

I find plot and animation style more important than how long an episode is produced and where the studio it makes it based in. Therefore, Avatar == anime.

Fluid animation, lots of gags and exaggeration happen plenty of times in anime too. And it's Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya - when the goddess takes the Earth over, mispronouncing her name will be very dangerous.

Even Wikipedia agrees with me that Avatar is not considered anime. And it isn't. Nyah.

Mind you I have nothing against anime. Anime is great. Rock on.

Did you watch it because Sojiro/me/etc. recommended it? I've had a few people I told to watch it really enjoy it, it's been fun. biggrin.gif

Nope, it just happened eventually. I fish for opinions at the Giant's forum, and only rarely here.

What's your #1, 2 and 3?

Stuff

I was one of the ones that Nejii recommended TTGL to, and obviously now I'm a total fanboi. Of course. I mean... Who the hell do you think I am?!?

I eagerly await the day when I'm through my CXC exams (which I've recently realised have turned me into a testy bastard) when I will have the time and energy to bask in the awesomeness that is anime once more. sad.gif

What's your #1, 2 and 3?

#3: FLCL. Will be probably topped by TTGL as well, but it's still one hell of an anime. Short, funny, mind-twistingly strange and unusually deep and moving for its brand of humor.
#2: Fullmetal Alchemist. Overall great, with an interesting world, compelling characters and a logical plot. The anime and manga are very different plot-wise, both are very good.
#1: Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya. Description unnecessary.

Sadly I can't agree with 3, but 1 and 2 are definite goes. 3 has to be something like Planetes or Lucky Star. Too many optionsss.

Our opinions tend to differ. You didn't like Excel Saga a lot too, didn't you? Not going to start an argument though - tastes and so on. You know how it goes.

I didn't watch Planetes yet, but I more-or-less know what it is about. Lucky Star is a great show but doesn't get into top 5 of mine.
Shiri2008-03-19 04:33:53
Yeah, I didn't like Excel Saga, too silly for me. I MIGHT enjoy it more now I'm a bit older though?

You should really give Planetes a try. Just a few episodes so you can see how superficial the characters seem, but aren't.

Vexille - very nice s-f/cb movie, good cg. Reminds me of FF The Spirits Within.

And honestly, I have no idea what you people like so much about TTGL.

Honestly, nor do I, I had to struggle through the first few episodes. I reckon part of it is that I enjoy it more after the fact than I did at the time...but it was still good.

What're everyone's predictions for the new season? It looks a little thin, so I'll mostly be looking for RD and xxxholic kei, but if anyone finds other gems it'd be nice to know.

Also, you people should go check this out - it's pretty weak, but it's definitely interesting how they're going about it. First attempt to really obviate the need for fansubbers (sucks that it's all grainy though).

Code Geass R2, huzzah.

2-3 more interesting ones for the spring season. I've got high hopes for Soul Eater too.
Shiri2008-04-08 04:48:55
Soul eater looked interesting for being from Bones, and the HOOOO expression on the girl, but the trailer was pretty terrible, so that's a mark down.
Krellan2008-04-08 19:52:27
where do you people find all of these? Probably doesn't help that I only watch the stuff that I can find websites streaming.
