Then watch it again, silly!
Prisch2008-04-11 22:31:12
Oh yay and its subbed, I watched the crappy dub version.
Bashara2008-04-11 23:15:50
I would only ever refer you to a subbed version, or in some rare cases a well done English production. And actually, I thought that the voice actors for the English version were quite good. My absolute faaaaaavvvveeeeeeee was Yuji's English VA, Jerry Gelb, who was also in Cowboy Bebop: The Movie (awful title dry.gif ), some Gundam, as well as Gestalt. I actually forgot Gestalt in my list of faves, I haven't seen in a long time. Well, it's a semi-fave, I guess. Good story, but some of the characters kinda put me off.

Anyway, I absolutely loved Gelb's voicing in Robin. So quiet, poised, and calm happy.gif
Unknown2008-04-11 23:25:14
huh.gif What would you have titled the movie?
Unknown2008-04-11 23:35:58
I thought it was titled Knocking on Heaven's Door. Which is not bad at all.

That show was ace. I didn't really care about that because, well..they were pretty young and there were no sexual implications IMO. It just pissed me off that they spent 4/5ths of the entire series becoming Hunters. Then its basically over.

I agree. I really liked Hunter X Hunter, and am REALLY sad I couldn't see more of everything...

I should download and rewatch...

I think the Greed Island arc was cute and fun, but I second the emphasis that boohoo it just ended sad.gif

You might be right, and I just don't remember it that well.

I personally preffer subs, the voices just sound less forced. Everytime I try to watch a dub I end up cringing, some of the mannerisms in voices are so played out and cheesy, game show hosts talk less annoying than some VAs. I have heard of Gestalt but never watched it. The VAs for WHR were actually alright, I don't think there was any point in time the voices grated on my nerves.
Shiri2008-04-12 03:22:16
What's with the hating I sometimes see on Honey & Clover 2 as opposed to 1? They looked almost exactly the same to me (which was good enough.)

And Air wasn't thaaat bad. Or rather, Kanon wasn't that bad, and Air was like half of Kanon and half of some ridiculous nonsensical crap.

EDIT: Also, I really liked some of R.O.D: the TV. Just the idea of a series about magic library ninjas fighting against a British clone-monster appeals to me. It moved too slowly at times and I didn't like Nenene at all, but w/e. And I still need to see Spirited Away in something other than French.

Prisch is exactly right about dubs btw, can't stand American VAs. I keep being reminded of when I tried to watch fullmetal panic and every episode started out as dubbed by default, and rushing to change it after a couple lines. Ew.

death note made me cry inside. pissed.gif

ohmy.gif I miss Witch Hunter Robin... and I watched the dubbed a while ago; they were all right but I'd like to watch the subs too (the video doesn't work in that link you provided Bashara!)

Actually I miss watching anime in general - but mangas are so convenient sad.gif

I liked that arc, and the one(think it was an OVA seperate from the show) that focused mainly on Kurapica and his vendetta against the Spiders. The system for their power classifications was really interesting. Ending was too abrupt and served the series no justice at all.

In English its fantastic. Reminds me of a modern Alice & Wonderland, one of the best animated movies ever IMO.

Manga is usually the way to go, most series completely stray from the manga either because of shortcuts, laziness, 'artistic freedom'. I thought Naruto had an amazing universe with a lot of detail and cool concepts, the battles are clever(with Bunshins and such) and not DBZ power-up-for-five-chapters. Then you watch it animated and feel ripped off. It can completely murder your visual image of the manga.
Shiri2008-04-12 15:59:44
Manga is such a weak medium though. I'm sure the stories you find in it are better due to less "corporate meddling" and so on, but there's no action and sound like in anime, and there's no exposition and stuff like in text books. And some anime come out better than the manga somehow (rare, but see xxxholic.) It has the worst of both worlds. That said, there are a couple weird manga I've been enjoying.
Prisch2008-04-12 16:03:28
I guess its good for manga like Death Note where there are essentially no fighting scenes.
That is true, but for me I can appreciate the artistic value of pictures being told as a story than a whole episode that doesn't go anywhere.
Shiri2008-04-12 16:04:57
Haha, don't tell me you didn't appreciate the epic *VIOLENT HAND MOTION!!* in the anime, that was awesome.

In general I suppose you're right though, I only saw the last chapter of death note in manga (to see if the ending was supposed to be that crappy; it was, but slightly better in the manga.)

Also, fair enough about episodes not going anywhere: but if anime were done properly consistently I'd enjoy it much more. I bet Lucky star was better in anime than 4koma, for example. Manga just seems like it's disadvantaged to begin with.
Prisch2008-04-12 16:08:39
Oh the violent hand motions with the Opera music hahaha, that was good. I chortled a little.
Unfortunately there will always be fillers, and I will always not watch the fillers so...
<3 Lucky Star.

I normally don't comment on other people's tastes, but...
Nezha, could you explain to me exactly why Naruto is memorable but Fullmetal Alchemist isn't?

I'm watching Martian Successor Nadesico now. It's old (relatively: 1998 or so) and it SHOWS. But I like it. Probably won't reach my top 5 but definitely not a waste of time. After I'm done with it I'm going with Claymore.

Whoops.

This one works

Unfortunately, that website only has up to episode 16. Still trying to find a working site that goes past that.
