Favourite anime!

Yeah, that was kinda cool (and I don't mean it the Naruto way).

Anime I'm watching now:
Fate/Stay Night. Much better than I thought it'll be. I expected average, and it's good. The pace could use some hastening but I like it anyway. Interesting concept and characters (the main hero isn't as annoyingly stupid as I thought he'd be from hearing other peoples' opinions). Saber is one hell of a lady, to quote Firefly.
Genshiken. Hilarious and life-like - your mileage may vary on the last part. As my brother said - so meta... Also, surprisingly dirty without showing anything graphic, but it IS about college students after all. And has the cutest hetero couple I saw in a series for a long while.

I finished Nadesico. It was fun. The animation is... well, it shows that this anime is old (older than Evangelion = ancient!). But the characters are likeable and interesting. Don't let the mecha fool you - the war is just a background, this anime is mostly about the various types of relationships the characters are having. It's almost shoujo.
Nadesico's movie was... so-so.

Genshiken's first season was great. The second was...scary. I had to struggle through some of those episodes. It was still funny when it tried though. Especially the end-of-episode omake and Ogiue showing Ouno her workbook.

Surprised you enjoyed F/SN though. Emiya has one of the lamest superpower that wasn't obviously meant to be and the pace was just...ehhhh.

I'm watching Sayanora Zetsubou Sensei, and I really like it. Kind of reminds me of Melancholy for some reason.

I'm still watching 'em. I'm halfway through Genshiken's 2nd season (so far it was even funnier than 1st for me), halfway through F/SN too. So my opinions may change yet, but I don't find it very likely.

Apparently it has a very British sense of humour with all the cynicism and non-sequitur. The bits of it I actually understand (and it's not like I'm missing the otaku references) are pretty funny, I have to say.

F/SN was originally a visual novel, if you played it, you'd be far more engrossed with the plot as a whole. I enjoyed the anime myself and it's what got me into the game and prequel novels.

Emiya's power gets pretty awesome during one of the story arcs in the game, incidentally, too bad they didn't show it in the anime.

Shiri2008-06-01 00:47:43
Yeah, I heard about the F/SN doujin, that would be more likely to prejudice me against it than for it though (although I kind of like utawarerumono.)

I watched the whole Genshiken, both seasons. Great series, for sure makes it to my top 5 anime.
This is for Shiri: What's so scary about the second season?
Unknown2008-06-06 00:36:44
I felt compelled to share this. (Relevant to our Gurren Lagann interests.)

There's this one episode with the cosplay girl and ponytail guy that's really scary o.0
Shiri2008-06-06 01:15:07
@Ried: Heh, not bad, particularly because of the lip-synching.

@Cuber: All the yaoi/doujin/etc. episodes. The one Kharaen mentioned with Ouno and Tanaka too. I came in expecting something much more like the first series & OVA (Which I guess was about the more harmless side of the fanbase...) Plus, as someone put it, Genshiken was at its best when it was about the culture clashes between otaku and "normal people", less so when it became Friends centred around comiket instead of central park.
Unknown2008-06-06 07:07:51
Hmm. I kinda expected that answer actually, with Shiri being something between the Chaste and Celibate Hero and all. For me, the Ohno/Tanaka episode was an extremely satisfying event that solidified their status as an official couple (my two favorite characters, by the way), and all the perverted doujin/yaoi stuff was hilarious. As for the Friends-like things... well, the first season was kinda that way too, at least for me.

Still, de gustibus non est disputandum. Just explaining my point of view, not bashin' yours.

To change the subject, that OVA was pretty sweet.
Shiri2008-06-06 07:11:40
Much higher quality than I'm used to from "spinoff" OVAs, yeah.

As for the Friends thing...you're right, but I felt it a lot more in the 2nd than in the 1st. Plus a whole lot more of the references were to doujin-soft and stuff that I haven't seen so that didn't help.

Like TTGL?

I jest. But if I were to dislike every pun which I didn't get due to not seeing the original thing... well, I'd be a much more frustrated man by now. You watched roughly 35% of all anime series EVER created so it's a more understandable point in your case.
Shiri2008-06-06 07:27:56
It's not that it's frustrating not to get it (although Pani Poni Dash! is one hell of an ego slap, I get like 10% of that at best), it's just that it's -less- enjoyable than when I do get it, which happened a lot more in the first series.

@Ried I have that song stuck in my head now. Thanks

Are you people familiar with Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann - Parallel Works? If so, which one's your favorite?

I can provide links for the unenlightened. The fifth is especially hard to get, due to being mildly NSFW and heavily NSFSanity.
Shiri2008-07-25 02:28:28
I did see 1-4, liked the pinball one. Vix and Sojiro found me them.

What about this season though? Natsume Yuujinchou turned out more interesting than expected, and Xam'd could be going somewhere!
Unknown2008-07-25 03:20:48
4's my favorite. Don't try to find 5, it will melt your brain (and I don't mean it in the good way). 6 is pretty awesome once you figure out exactly what it's supposed to be about.

I still live in the past.
