You'll need to manually change the port to 23 since the default "telnet" is useless for MUDs.

Heh. I haven't worked with the raw .exe file in years and it shows. Blame my history with games using four-digit port numbers.

Install the Java Plugin from Sun Microsystems. I did it at work and they are yet to notice

I often play from work, and it isn't so bad. After all, if I can do my job in 4 hours, why shoudl I be wasting the other 4 doing extra work? :-)

You might not be able to play, depending on the type of network you're on. A lot of networks set up with Win2k/WinNT use telnet (or the command prompt) as their internal network shuttle, and the companies block off the external ports. And since the default telnet port is 23, its almost certainly blocked if that's the case.
This would also stop you from playing using Zmud, as Zmud is just a fancy telnet that does things independantly of the send/recieve function.
Luckily, there is a way around this. Unluckily, its very close to illegal and will definitely violate your company's acceptable usage policies as far as their network goes, which will, in all probability, get you fired..... at least if their IT department is any good.
But one can always check!! To pull up telnet, press Winkey+r, then type C:(or the default HD for the localmachine)\\WINDOWS(or WINNT if its an NT machine)\\system32\\telnet.exe .....or you could just try typing cmd in the run dialog.
I won't post a URL for the software needed to bypass the firewall, but just Google Network Bypass, and that should do it.
Happy hacking!
EDIT: Just remembered, if you do it the cmd way, you'd then type telnet lusternia.com 23

In many countries and corporate environments, bypassing a firewall is forbidden and exposes you to sanctions, redundancy, legal proceedings and - in some countries - death penalty.
muhahaha...
I for one would be annoyed if i found anyone using http tunneling. But then if your lucky you will have an admin like me who is too busy playing lusternia/achaea himself to care
But if your a student and you don't care about getting in trouble
as i just mentioned try http tunneling, it makes everything look like web traffic so that proxies/firewalls will pass it through. I think there are some free providers out there that you can connect to, otherwise find some http tunneling software, load it on your pc at home (not really for 56k dialup folks) and then connect to there from work. sorry dont know any clients for windows, google it.
