After speaking with a Serenwilder she believes that Magnagora is defined as evil because it is dark, celest is good because it is the light. Leaving Serenwilde inbetween as neutral.
Personally, I disagree strongly as there are alot of bad people in Celest and Serenwilde, and alot of good people in Magnagora and Serenwilde. I personally don't think of neutral as a possible alignment, not "True Neutral" anyway. You either prefer Good people, or you prefer evil people. That or your a loner who hates everybody equally and loves nobody.
So what are your thoughts on this Lusternia? (If there was a previous topic about this kindly ignore it and fill this one up because I want to feel special and noticed.) Would a magnagoran feeding a starving child still be evil? Would a Celestian beating a baby seal to death with a stick still be holy and good?
So far all I can see different about Magnagora, Celest and Serenwilde is location, leadership and colour. Which leads me to this next question, to the people who believe Magnagora is evil because it has a a black nexus of power and black smoke and necromancy... Iz it cos we iz black?

Meh. I think Magnagora and Celest have become good and evil, but hey, come on guys, we can pull it out of that! Let's have something more interesting, shall we? (granted, the Demons and Angels don't help anything)
Richter2004-12-11 10:12:24
Serenwilde isn't neutral, it's just made of a bunch of different people.
Magnagora isn't evil, because the taint isn't possessed and evil anymore. They just have a lot of agressive and irritating people.
Celest isn't nessecarily good, though they lean towards that. I don't want to see it turn into Shallam from Aetolia.
The places would all benefit from some diversification, but the thing that we saw with Lacostian in celest and Raezon's people wanting shrines in serenwilde just shows that everyone is far too stupid (and they talk about other games too much) to change.
This isn't Achaea, Imperian, Aetolia, or pickup sticks.

Serenwilde is anti-city, Celest is anti-Taint, and Magnagora is anti-anti-Magnagora. Very simple and straightforward.

Well said.

I agree with Hazar on this, but apparantly many don't.
Shiri2004-12-11 10:25:26
Well, I'd like to agree, but so many people have gone into good/evil/forestal mode that it's just wishful thinking to call it that right now. Hazar's version is how it SHOULD be.
Dritex2004-12-11 10:27:02
If one reads the hostories well, they can see that things are most deffinately not actually good and evil. It is easily set that we are able to fall into this role though, and done so on purpose by the gods. They knew everyone was gonna make one place good,a nd one place evil, so why not have some contol over it, and also allow for future expansion beyond/away from those terms.
One place is for the Light, one for the Tiant. Both see their respective goals as good. And the third party hates cities, and would love to see both destroyed (or at least it should be acting that way).
There are no gods here, with one being the god of good, and one being teh god of evil. The gods here are gods, with thei rown personalities and desires, and the thinsg related to them stem out of their personalities, but do not define anything as such and such way.
So, there is no good and evil in Lusternia. The best youc an come to good and evil is:
Souless
vs
Creation

I'll chime in with my own general agreement to Hazar's post.
Hazar2004-12-11 10:33:15
Why can't people agree with me like this all the time?
Unknown2004-12-11 11:58:27
I ALSO agree with Hazar. Serenwilde is in no way "neutral". If we were neutral, we would have no feelings towards the two cities eitherway. However we hate them due to their past decisions .
Although we're anti-Taint, (so therefore anti-Magnagora), we're also anti-Celest for the same reason; since the all the cities from the Celestian Empire actually released the taint.

I would very much like the people who vote "Yes" to give a legitamate reason why they did. So far almost all voters have besides those voting yes.. Interesting.

I play a kind, sweet, bleeding-heart Geomancer. This is a lot harder than it sounds when you factor in the fact that she's also a patriot (though more of the knows-all-the-words-to-the-national-anthem sort than the storm-the-infidels sort) and sees nothing wrong with wanting to nurture the Taint. I liked the fact that this was a perfectly thematic, if offbeat, character concept for the game world, although things seem to be polarizing lately. Stop that, people.
Then again, she often goes out of her way to visit the Ebonglom Wyrm and sing lullabies to him, so maybe there are less mentally damaged examples of shades of gray among the cities/communes?

I like Mary. She's a good example of how a Magnagoran can be a good person. We don't need EVERYONE there to be the new Mhaldorians, the taint isn't necessarily like that anymore. Taint is harmless (or more so) without Kethuru's presence in it, so why do even the Magnagorans have to "polarise" it into evil and stuff?
And the reason I voted yes was because although I agree with Hazar, that's not the way it's seemingly turned out. That's how I'd LIKE it to be, but it doesn't seem to be how it IS.

Shiri, I don't know how much Celestian propaganda you have listened to but you don't seem to know what goes on in Magnagora, only of that which comes to haunt you in your nightmares.
I will argue this point, Our beloved Mary is by far not the only person who is cuddly and smiley in Magnagora. Nor is Valek a bloodthirsty murderer. I don't think many magnagorians have polarized the city as evil, if they have. About as much as Celest has done so with itself as "good".
Edit: Sorry for using names like that, if either Mary or Valek wish me to edit my post and remove names, just ask.
Edit2: Shiri, not Shiro. Apologies for the name mistake.

I think they are all as neutral as each other, only to different degrees. Magnagora is more like Hashan than Mhaldor, if we take references from Achaea. And Celest is a mix between Shallam and Cyrene. They think they are good and rightous, but they can be just as bad as they make Magnagora out to be.
So, it's more like a Chaotic and Lawful Neutral, with Serenwilde being the Neutral Neutral.. But all of them can all be bad as each other.
There isn't any clear cut 'Evil' and 'Good'

Ya know, Noku, when you edit you can actually change text. You don't just have to put corrections at the bottom. Just letting you know.

A ) I'm Magnagoran too.
B ) I said EVEN Magnagorans polarise it. Implying Celest/Serenwilde has done it too.
C ) Mary is AN example, not THE ONLY example.
D ) I never said Valek did anything wrong.

I was wasn't saying you weren't Magnagoran, nor that you was saying Mary was the only nice person. But I misunderstood your post by reading it as "I voted yes because of how people act in Magnagora" hence bringing me to my previous post.
I see I misread your post and for that I am sorry, its just how your last message got across to me, seemingly unintentional by you.

Mary certainly isn't the only "nice" Magnagoran. But a good percentage of the populace is scary, and rightfully so; we're dealing with forces of corruption and pain, here, and if there weren't any who were willing to roleplay darker characters the entire point of the city would be lost. However, I believe what Shiri was trying to say, and I know what I was attempting to, is that so many people (mostly newer players who aren't patient enough to read their history) see this and think "Oh, time to act cruel and go about laughing evilly while nailing adorable kittens to the wall of the potting shed." There's a big difference between Hannibal Lecter and Snidely Whiplash, though both could and should be called "evil" types. And the fact that I've nurtured a crush on the former for years has nothing to do with it.
You can play a "bad guy" in Magnagora or a "good guy" in New Celest. Just don't make the mistake of leaving off your character development there.
Where on earth did you get the Valek comment from, might I ask? I can't find it in this thread at the time of my posting.
SUUPAA EDITTU! I type too slow, ignore the last two sentences.
