So I was thinking about how it would be interesting to have one or two guilds that aren't a part of the MAJOR cities (Magnagora, Hallifax, Serenwilde, etc). Basically so that there could be some with their own ideologies, that didn't have to conform to the group's ethos (eg. Aquamancers could be seen to be being forced into a 'Light' type of belief, where they're really more neutral). Someone made a thread about a wandering barbarian guild, my personal idea was a small guild in the Balach Swamp.
But a guild needs power.
So, would it be at all feasible to have... a mini-nexus? Just powered by the guild itself, they would be responsible for it, and have a few quests to do things for it. Obviously the mini-nexus could never reach the massive amounts of power the Megalith or Pool contain, but given that they would only have to serve a single guild, they wouldn't need it. To go along with my Balach Swamp example, perhaps they could have say, the Pond of New Life, and a couple of quests like bringing tadpoles or whatever you want really, to contribute small amounts of power. Similar things to what the cities have, but on a smaller scale, as there wouldn't be as many people in the guild to do the quests. And there would only be a single guild who lived in the swamp, who took power from it - no rogues there, as it wouldn't be a city. Just a glorified guildhall, if you will.
Would this work at all? Or is it too... stupid? Does it just ignore the problems that city-specific power tries to solve (ie. avoiding lots of strong rogues)?

I think the idea of city-nexus-guild is to make sure that people will be involved in their organizations. If you just have a guild maintaining its own nexus, without a larger organization, then it's basically an open nexus that could be open to people of vastly conflicting idealogies - people who are just looking for a free nexus.
If you can ensure that it's properly kept, it might be a good idea.

Actually, with my "barbarian" class if you will, I was thinking of trying to find a nice dessert place. An ancient city, one to be re-erected, in the name of a free society, not one of darkness, of light, or of the forest. A city of people just trying to survive.
Unknown2004-12-14 03:18:08
I like your idea, Braids.
Shoshana2004-12-14 04:26:46
As far as I was aware, Serenwilde is meant to be a place of people just trying to survive, seeing as Auseklis said that the forest doesn't need them taking care of it. Not that that seems to be the case from what I've seen of the place, though

There used to be many nexuses, I like the idea of bringing that back.

If you're thinking of the time of the Vernal Wars, there were also many more cities and communes--hundreds probably. The mortal races also depleted the resources and drained the power of the entire world in their efforts to raise Vernal Gods.
So, no, there will never be nexuses like there once was. Also, there probably won't ever be guilds that could survive without a nexus. It's just something you'll need to get used to in Lusternia.

Then please, create a water city because the Aquamancers aren't enlightened enough to survive in celest.
Currently, in Celest:
- Celestines: Ideologists of the city
- Paladins: defenders of the city
- Aquamancers: Those guys who live in the fancy coral spyre.

Erm. The Aquamancers helped just as much in the creation of New Celest as anyone else did.
I don't know how you got that idea.
EDIT: For that matter, it was the Celestines and Aquamancers who did built it. The Paladins didn't even come along until later.

Aquamancers are meant to be all about the healing power of the waters cleansing the evil taint and all that... I really wish we roleplayed it more though, I try to as Shoshana as much as possible but there's only so much you can do when the rest of the guild want to be neutralish scholars...
Iridiel2004-12-14 14:52:34
I get that idea for the currrent presence of the Aquamancers in the political life of Celest. Even the constitution adn the laws were aproved when the Aquamancers GM was inactive, so imagine how much do we count for the other two guilds.
And the aquamancers should be as anti taint as anybody in Celest, only more focused on learning about it and then finding a way to defeat it than just chopping their heads off every while.

See, here's the thing with us Aquamancers, and the rest of Celest.
Celestines and Paladins: "Look taint, destory!"
Aquamancers: "Wait wait wait, let think this over for a second"
Celestines and Paladins: "NO! DESTROY!" *run off to die*
Aquamancers: "But..wa...gah....why can't these peoepl ever think before acting?" *goes off wandering, pondering over what could even be done with the skills they have*
or
Celestines and Paladins: "Praise the light! Taint is evil! DIE TAINT! DIE!"
Aquamancers: "Well, the taint isn't all to great...but...wait, where'd tehy go?"
Celestines and Paladins: *Ran off to do this this and that, while the Aquamancers were still trying to instill some sense of thinking*
Aquamancers: "Blast....why don't they ever stop and listen before they act?"
Yes though, in my personal oppinion, form what I've seen ingame about where the Aquamancers stem from, who our patron is and what he's said, and all the things about our Guild, we are much much more neutral than the rest of the city.
It'd be nice to maybe see filling in that healing role, if our skills reflected that...but they don't.

Celestines are more logical then that, we plan how to destroy the taint slowly rather then warcry it o.o
Dritex2004-12-17 02:56:25
Oh, I'm sure you guys think things over a lot more than those examples. They were merely repersentations of what it looks like to Aquamancers(or at least my self and some I have talked to).
And as others have pointed out, the guild seems to often be avoided or ignored in anything it says or might say, unless it is nothing but 100% zealousy to blow up the Taint.

The Aquamancers are never ignored, You have two members within the star council and we hear you guys everyday. We don't have time to sit by and think when magnagora is at celest doors or in celestia trying to kill things and we must act quickly
Dritex2004-12-17 04:38:30
I'm speaking of in general. But whatever. We each are on differing vantage points of the situation, and are gonna see it differently.
Iridiel2004-12-17 21:47:06
Yes, finally we have two members. Rhysus is an Aquamancer, but he's elected prince so he doesn't have to pay any special attention to the guild (as he is representant of ALL the guilds in Celest) and before Mistie came, when all the important decisions were take, like those regarding laws, our GM was inactive, so we weren't heard, not even consulted about things that influence our guild.
Rhysus2004-12-18 02:41:13
Representatives from the Aquamancers and the Celestines (Both of whom had inactive GM's during the writing of the Covenant) were actively consulted during its creation.
Unknown2004-12-18 03:01:27
Sorry. If the Aquamancers don't -ever- say anything to contribute, I don't know what you were expecting. I barely ever see any of the guild leadership around, except maybe Althana.
If you want to be involved, try actually saying something.
