Umm so its okay to bring homosexuality into ads and the market channel but thats not allowed to spawn homophobia? You fostered a game where hatred is the main motivation - hatred between the races, hatred between the cities - but somehow everyone is supposed to be all accepting of homosexuality when nothing else in the game is accepting of anything else?

In all honesty, it seems pretty stupid to draw lines and punish people that harshly for first offenses when you didn't even draw the line until after the bloody post.

I missed the OOC racism blink.gif , someone enlighten me? *g*
Unknown2004-12-11 23:08:50
Don't know if there as OOC racism. I'm just including it since it's similar to the homophobia laws.

Anyway, Asarnil. You can be racist in the game because the players aren't really those races and won't really take offense. But if you start being homophobic to gay people in real life, they DO take slight offense, whether they mean to or not.

Yes. Deal with it. We're not going to accept homophobia in any form.
Asarnil2004-12-11 23:17:08
Was Mordechai homophobic, or was the player behind him doing it. I think it was probably more a Mordechai thing than anything else.
Unknown2004-12-11 23:20:54
I like Auseklis' response. Next topic, folks. This one is running dry, hey?
Akhenaten2004-12-12 00:12:07
I roleplayed quite a bit with Mordechai, and I also chatted OOCly with him through tells. He's a nice guy. Never took the low road. If anonye deserves a warning first, if he stepped out of line, it's him. And to tell you the truth, I think most people are entitled a warning first. Or a slap with a week-long shrubbing, something like that.
Elryn2004-12-12 00:14:40
I saw the ad, and thought it was revolting.

There is IC prejudice between cities, races and religions... but they are all IC attributes, and an attack based on those qualities does not extend to the player. This is different, and it was advertised realm-wide. I can see an unshrubbing in a few RL months as maybe punishment enough, but good job, Divine.

Also, I doubt he wasn't warned by players that it wasn't acceptable. Doesn't that count as a warning?
Qaletaqa2004-12-12 00:21:59
Permanent shrubbing I still consider rather harsh in that respect.
Unknown2004-12-12 00:25:05
I've seen something like this happen in another realm, normally it just gets people banned from using market. Whether that be 48 hours or perma. That's alot more rational than perma shrubbing someone on a first offense.
Unknown2004-12-12 00:52:35
Didn't he say something about 'pimping out gay celestines'? I don't see how that is even derogatory. >_>
Roul2004-12-12 01:15:58
I like making gay-bashing, racist, and ageist (sp) jokes. They're funny. Doesn't mean I'm any one of those, I just have a raunchy sense of humour. I also make fun of straight white males. Because I'm able to make fun of myself, just as I'm able to make fun of absolutely anyone else in the world.

I make fun of republicans all the time, because they're dumb. And that's apparently 51% of my country's voting population. How many gay people are there? So what's worse? Insulting a majority or a minority? Regardless.. Aris was posting the term "Bluetard" and I didn't get offended. Making fun of groups of people is fun. Making fun of individuals, however, isn't cool in my book. Unless that person has chosen to make themselves public (Like the president or Michael Powell - Head of the FCC).

Seriously, people need to stop whining so much. And just chill out. PC is dumb. Didn't anyone watch the movie PCU? smile.gif

I'm not sure if any of you read Auseklis' post, but here is how it goes:

If you want homophobia to be accepted, tough. It won't be.

This game is for the players, but there are rules, and no harassment or prejudice against others for OOC reasons (which this is, because in the world of Lusternia, nobody has ever been closed-minded or stupid enough to be homophobic, find me one mobile that is so, or one historical figure) is one of them. This is set in stone. It will not be changed.

Part of the reason is that it is illegal, and IRE is not going to break the law simply because a small group of people want to make tasteless jokes. If you violate another player's basic rights to not be degraded or harassed, you don't get to play anymore. It is that simple.

The fact is far to many of us having given up thick skins in favour of a paper thin membrane. More and more, people are being told what they beleive is wrong, because it just might offend someone. Examples;

I am a Baptist, I make no secrets about it, and I love beign a Baptist. I wear a cross, and on my truck, I have quite a few symbols of God. I drove through San Fransico, about 11 o'clock at night, and what to my surprise, so people waving rainbow flags, started to throw fruit and rocks at my car. When I came back 20 minutes with the police, their reason was I offended them because I had symbols of God on my car. Apprentently my religion is not offensive to them. This is the same as the a straight person beating up a gay couple because he is offended by their lifestyle. (So if you are going to use a rare event to show how gays have it so tough, make sure you show both sides.)

Further more, I have seen schools ban the word 'Christmas.' My brother has a cross that he wears, his school told him he can't wear it. I have a shirt that has a bible passage on it, I was told I could not wear to a my college. I can't have a parketing permit at school because I have a bumber stick that says, 'Jesus has saved me, and he will save you to.'

Every reason for everyone of those above actions is to prevent someone who beleives in something from showing they beleive in it, in fear that it may offend someone. This is from the same people who preach tolerance. explode.gif

No his ad may have been insulting, big fricken deal. Does he deserve to have his entire char ruined because he made one bad judgment slip? Even in the wonderfully easy to be harressed real world (Don't say hi to anyone, they might take it for a sexual advance) they still get a fair warning.

And the point was placed before already, if you are going to have homosexual chars, you are going to have those who are opposed to that lifestyle. I do not like the fact this game is trying so hard not to 'offend' anyone, but letting some things contiune that offend or make others uncomfortable...

But then again, this is a mirror of the real world, you can only bitch about being uncomfortable if you are not straight, male, or white.
Auseklis2004-12-12 01:36:16
We're not banning straight, male and white (I wouldn't be here, for one). We're banning idiots.

Right, enough discussion. Topic closed.
