Actually Exarius got the language stuff started.

Glomdoring does NOT meant Merciless Forest. It just means without mercy - and the term Glomdoring Forest means, well, Forest Without Mercy/Merciless Forest. When people say Glomdoring in reference to the forest, the 'Forest' part is assumed.

I was thinking that if your race is Aslaran, Dracnari, Loboshigaru, or Furrikin when you 'wag' the output could be changed from
You wag your imaginary tail happily.' to 'You wag your tail happily', but maybe with more emphasis...
Smiling at your surroundings you wag your tail happily.
With a smile on @hisher face @user wags @hisher tail happily.
Smiling at @emoteto you wag your tail happily.
With a smile on @hisher face @user wags @hisher tail happily while looking towards @emoteto.
Looking towards you with a smile on @hisher face, @user wags @hisher tail happily at you.

While I agree with the idea, it's worth noting that a hunting cat's tail wagging is not a happy sign. In fact, if you see it, usually it means you should be running the other way very fast. (Less so for housecats, but really, housecats are the definitively non-definitive example of a cat.) Perhaps it should be "menacingly" for aslaran, "happily" for loboshigaru, and I don't know on the others.
Kariol2005-07-21 19:04:01
Well, those messages would work off 'wag', and more general. Aslaran wouldn't need to use wag if they aren't in a happy mood. Maybe a 'warnwag' for Aslaran?
Gwylifar2005-07-21 19:13:09
Well, none of those races need to use -wag-, do they?
Shiri2005-07-22 00:57:56
It'd probably be happy for Furrikin. Since there're both fox and dog and cat and so on like Furrikin (I imagine), but they're generally a happy, cheery kinda race.

I would actually like to see a racial emote for the Faelings!
Faesing 1st-un: Closing your eyes for a moment, you prepare yourself. Slowly opening your mouth, etheric song of incomprehensible words, enchanting the very air and earth around you.

They're still faelings. Or we could have something else. Something like what happened to Viravain. I remember when Moralis asked Her to sing for those few of us at the Ravenwood not long after her "accident".
Faesing 1st-un (Shadowfaeling): Closing your eyes for a moment, you prepare youself. Slowly opening your mouth, you begin to release a torturous, incomprehensible song. The earth itself groans in agony, as you raise your voice in this mockery of song.
Faesing 1st (Shadowfaeling): Closing your eyes as you prepare yourself, you begin to sing a song of indescribeable beauty. Your voice causes the air, earth and nearby plantlife to sway with the rhythm, leaving (target) staring awe-struck.Closing your eyes in preparation, you begin to sing an incomprehensible song of tortured screeches and wails of pain to
Faesing 3rd-un: Closing his/her eyes for but a moment, (soandoso) begins to sing a song that causes naught but torment and pain, all of Nature seems to twist and groan to the tortorous melody.
Faesing 2nd: (Whoever) closes his eyes before releasing a song of unparalleled pain, while the words are lost to you, you seem drawn into it, as your mind goes hazy. All that exists in your mind now is the song and the agony it sings of, and two small trails of wetness leaking from your ears.
Faesing 3rd: (Whoever) closes his eyes before releasing a song of unparalleled pain. The words are incomprehensible, but (target) seems lost in the song, as Nature itself groans and bucks in agony. Screeching from the tortured voice inside your thoughts, you clap your hands over your ears, in an attempt to block it out.

Why get them to do it? Make it yourself. Hell, Gwylifar's totem tribe is designing an Aslaran langauge, very detailed. Just takes a little immagination, and dedication, and it works just fine.

Glad you like it. Too bad I didn't finish up publishing the grammatical rules before Gwylifar split off from the Shanthine Pride.
It's not quite so "anyone can do it" as you think, though. I'm more logician than linguist, but I did put quite a bit of time into planning how not to repeat the mistakes most MUDers make trying to slap together fictional languages in bits and pieces.
And thank you, Gwylifar, for having the grace to point out I did the ground work.
It does get rather tedious hearing everyone credit you with all the aslaran role-play, just because I've spent so much time in off-stage plotting, planning, and preperation while you're out there in the middle of everything, enjoying the hustle and bustle of the very crowds that drive an introvert like me nuts.

I don't think anyone would dare dispute the assertion that there are way more felis domesticus in the world than there are all other types of cats combined.
So how exactly can housecats be the "non-definitive example of a cat"?
Sylphas2005-07-23 16:53:27
He's going by quantity of species, not population. There are far more housecats, but they are a much different type of cat then wild types, of which there are far more species and variety.
Gwylifar2005-07-23 17:18:05
It's partially that, and partially the taxonomic definition of what comprises "feline". Look at all the species within Felis, and one of them is clearly more different from all the others, than the others are from each other. This is primarily due to breeding and other human-caused influences.
I think Auseklis pointed out the same thing long ago on the forums, bu this board's seriously neutered and unreliable search makes it impossible for me to find it.

BREAKDANCE:
1st person untargetted:
You get down, get your boogie on and start breakdancing in a display of how smoothly you can move.
3rd person untargetted:
Stangmar suddenly starts bopping his head to a tune only heard by himself, and starts to contort his body smoothly and with skill.
It's not perfect, tweak it. I was just thinking of a base to go off of. I DEFINITELY want a breakdance emote though.
