Gaudiguch and Hallifax were both part of the Empire which opposed the Taint before it was broken up, so they'd both oppose the Taint unless their ideals have changed dramatically in a few hundred years of stasis.
Unknown2004-12-14 17:11:26
Well thats the other problem, there are a TON of fence sitters hanging out in alot of the cities hoping Hallifax and Gaudiguch become a reality soon. Just dead weight citizens who do nothing to help....or hurt for that matter.....the cities they live in. Thats not everyone as some people just arent into PvP but totally back their cities and thats fine.
Most fencesitters are in Magnagora just for the comms (well not anymore thanks to Furloch ), lack of raids and freedom of movement in the basin. But there are also alot in Celest who are just waiting to get the hell out of the city soon as a neutral city opens just because they cant stand being forced to be good when they are really just neutral.
The divine inadvertantly squashed RP by teasing us with the Hallifax and Gaudiguch cities. A LOT of people instead of making a life in the three cities we currently have and trying to make them the best they can be are waiting for these cities to open.....if they do....instead of making any big moves RP wise to help a city they really couldnt care less about being in.
I mean if you knew Hallifax and Gaudiguch were Definitly not going to happen wouldnt you work harder in the city your in?, of course you would. As it is lot of people are walking on egg shells not wanting to get involved in conflicts they couldnt care less about because they are hoping a city will open that will be more inline with their ideals.

Also, don't count on any of the new cities, when they come, to oppose Magnagora because they're anti-taint. We've seen that that has nothing to do with it.
Gol2004-12-14 17:14:49
And Hallifax, hating Gaud, will probably ally with Magnagora. End result will be two bigger sides trying to kill one another. Cept, Magnagora might help Hallifax start up if it ends up allied to them. In which case, it'll be mag beating up celest, and hallifax beating up gaud. Heh.
Unknown2004-12-14 17:24:29
I see more Hallifax as being logical, rather than acting out of hatred and being illogical. Although they'll wage war with Gaudiguch, they won't flee straight to Magnagora. They'll calculate a way to kill Gaudiguch on their own. After all, they are still anti-taint.
Unknown2004-12-14 17:27:16
Um.
Did it ever occur to you all that Magnagora and Celest fighting will be mostly uninfluenced by Gaudgiguch and Hallifax?
Gaud and Hall are probably just going to go after each other and (hopefully) ignore what's going on between Celest and Magnagora.
Just thought I'd point that out.

I sure hope people DO play Hallifax as all logical and scientific like that. I'm seeing a lot of room for Mary-like people.
And I certainly don't think they'll be running for the taint. See, the danger here is that unless Magnagora gets Glomdoring on their side, it'll sort of be a 3 on 1 with the other cities (assuming Serenwilde still doesn't give a...hoot by that point.) And we all know we don't want another Mhaldor.

Isn't that exactly what I said?

Muaha. All my training has paid off.

As in, they'll never go to Magnagora or Celest. They'll purely fight with each other.
Ethelon2004-12-14 17:58:56
Things are starting to slowly come around for Celest. I recall for awhile we even had Magnagora hiding in thier city for days on end. Magnagora is still the power in the Basin, but I don't believe that it will be the same 5 years from now. Aswell, we now have a few fighters on par with Valek and Daevos
Iridiel2004-12-14 18:03:30
Considerign that Magnagora is doing what they can to hinder those working to bring back those two cities (was it a 10k rent, another 10k if you leave, endless persecution if you don't pay) I very much doubt any of the new cities (wich aren't pro taint for sure) ally with them on first chance they have.
They can be bullied into allying, of course, as they'll be young and tender...

Erm, I beg to differ. Hallifax and Guaiguch got caught in the battle that ended up freezing them both because of the taint. They thought the other one was tainted, and attacked. Both will be anti taint... or should be, atleast. Just not on the level that Celest is.
Of course, thats just to start. They may see the new position of the taint and change oppinion.

The Empire wasn't anti-taint. There WAS no taint until Project Cosmic Hope. Read your history .
And Hallifax (quite logically) feared Kethuru's taint. Today's taint is not Kethuru's taint. I sincerely disbelieve they'd allow tainted land anywhere near them, but after careful study, I also disbelieve that they'd abnormally fear Magnagora.

Hallifax thought there was a possibility of Gaudigauch and the Flame being tainted (the Emperor escaped through the Eternal Flame, after all), and due to the close proximity of the Flame and Matrix, they attacked. Very logical when you think about it. Gaudigauch was defending itself.
Unknown2004-12-14 20:53:57
Actually Sirthingy, the Empire still existed, (just sans Magnagora), basically up until the point where Celest was destroyed. Some could argue that Hallifax and Gaudiguch being frozen signalled the end of the empire.
Whatever it is, Hallifax and Gaudiguch were frozen WHILE the Taint was spreading, therefore they knew about it, its effects, and they didn't want it to reach them. But then they got taken out of the picture when they were frozen in time, (if the circumstances were different and Hallifax HADN'T attacked Gaudiguch, it's obvious they both would have come to the aid of Celest.)

SirV, when you quoted me, were you doing anything other than agreeing with me? Cause it looks like that.
Anyway, you make good points.

Hallifax would be too busy fighting Serenwilde/Ackleberry or Glomdoring (If you recall, Hallifax's wind attack sent the Taint washing over Glomdoring and made it the way it is now). I'm pretty sure Serenwilde is fuming about that.

I'm pretty sure no one here even REMEMBERS that detail, let alone cares about it. You're right in theory though. Self serving treacherous cities and all that!
Gwynn2004-12-15 03:39:53
I've always found it amusing (Both IC and OOC for that matter) with all the players who attempt to raise these cities, how they seem to think they will instantly be the ones in charge.
These cities have been in stasis for a long time, and they were DARN POWERFUL when they went into stasis. I think it would be terrible, rp wise, if they came back and let a bunch of upstart weakling rabble (as we can all be said to be) dictate to them what to do.
Its like you're all teenagers dabbling in black magic to try and summon a demon, and then it turns into a low-budget 80s horror movie and the demon breaks free and kills you all (except one of you, of course, who it uses as its servant to get into ever more corny and unbelievable actions as it feebly struggles against some miniscule end that will somehow deliver it world power).
