Masks

I think it would be cool to be able to have visible masks. You could see them when you just glance at a person. For example:

Tainted Knight Riyo of the Black Anvil is riding on a great eagle. He
wields an ornate platinum longsword in each hand. He is wearing a dark wooden mask.

You could also craft masks of other players, and they could possible be enchanted to hide your identity.

A masked figure is riding on a great eagle. He
wields an ornate platinum longsword in each hand.

Meh?

That would actually be a pretty cool idea. I don't particularly like the identity-hiding, but visible masks would be pretty sweet.

Going for the Imperian Idra mask, eh? wink.gif
Shamarah2004-12-14 20:50:56
I don't think that should be done through masks, but there should DEFINATELY be an Illusions skill to do that. Call it Shadow or something?

Oooh, I KNEW Illusions were missing something! Good call! biggrin.gif

Masks would be a good idea, as well as Shadow.

Although...wearing a mask or using Shadow shouldn't hide your identity from Avenger.

I brought this up in the artifacts thread a while back, though, I think it would be more fun if it was a hooded cloak/robe that could be pulled over your face to conceal your identity. Masks are fun too, though. wink.gif

I like the identity hiding idea.

'A hooded Tae'dae is here. He wields a shimmering mace in each hand', for example. Would allow us to act all secret-like...

I don't really understand how you can know who is standing there, unless you have actually met them and gotten to know what name goes with the face.
Unknown2004-12-15 03:30:42
yeaaaa good idea. If the divine want less PK on the prime allow hoods or masks. But only if when you look in the room a masked or hooded person shows as just their racial name, Taurian, Mugwump, etc. Until it is taken or forced off....gust should blow it off and other spells or movement types as well.

It will reduce PK because you wont know what city that person is from and the PK's would have to run around tearing the hoods off everybody before they attacked. And if allowed I think everybody would be always hooded or masked everytime they left their city. Cities would of course instantly enact laws to ban masks or hoods within city limits but it would be great for travelers.

Realisticaly it wont work because you just KNOW if they make hoods or masks they will make a skill for seeing right through it the next day doh.gif

I'm fine with them beeing seen though, but it should be a command you have to enter, along with a low-level skill in discernment, maybe.

For example...

discern tae'dae
Upon close scrutinization, you come to the conclusion that the hooded figure is indeed Guido!

It would cost about as much balance as glancing.

p cloak
This cloak is made out of midnight blue fabric, and all that nice cloaky stuff. Did we mention it has a hood?

wear cloak
You slip into a midnight-blue cloak.

wear hood
You pull up the hood on your midnight-blue cloak, obscuring your face in shadow.

Blastron pulls up the hood on his cloak of forestal hues, and his face is obscured in shadow.

ql
The Megalith of Doom.
There are 2523 plague revenants here. There is an uncountable number of Ur'Guard Death Knights here. The Megalith of Doom stands here, overloaded in power and leaking energy from its many cracks. A hooded elfen stands here. He wields an athame dagger in his left hand and a golden sickle in his right.

And to go with hoods, here's a new Elementalism skill: Flash.

You mutter under your breath, then quickly snap your fingers. You briefly create a bright spark of light, illuminating the faces under any nearby hoods.
The hooded elfen is revealed to be Blastron!
(four seconds later)
You have recovered equilibrium.

And, from a bystander's perspective:

Blastron snaps his fingers, and a bright spark of light leaps out from his fingertips.
You squint your eyes as the light pierces your shadowy hood.

Just a thought.

Oooh, I like these ideas.
Daganev2004-12-15 10:48:12
Masks are uber cool. I've loved them wherever I see them
there is nothing better than sitting the the center of the city and seeing

"Someone says "Boo""
Kick Dagenev
"Someone says "That hurt! How did you know it was me?"
say who else would it be moron?
Shamarah2004-12-15 11:27:17
If these "flash" and "gust" spells actually did exist to get rid of the illusion or mask, it'd make them pretty worthless for anything except if you just didn't want people to say hi to you as you walked around or something mellow.gif
Unknown2004-12-15 13:41:48
The spells would only target one person at a time, i'd hope, or else have some minor power cost (Two or three). It would also take balance/equil... I think it would be great for when a number of people are trying to move in secret. Only a few could be identified, at the most.
Kaervas2004-12-15 14:55:25
A hooded Viscanti enters from the northeast. He is followed by an archdemon and the Nil Grim Horror.

Bet you'd never guess it was me tongue.gif

Plus if they had loyals with them (which a lot of people do) it would just be quicker to probe the loyal.
Unknown2004-12-15 17:51:40
That's why it'd be done, exactly like Imperian's Idrasi... (their wolf, if probed, is 'loyal to a masked man' or 'loyal to a masked woman')

Seriously, as much fun as my Idra was to play, we -can- think of more original ideas, I hope wink.gif
Iridiel2004-12-15 18:00:45
I would love masks, and masked assassins, and mask balls :-)
Elryn2004-12-16 05:38:00
I like the concept of being able to hide one's identity, but if it is ever implemented I would hope there is a way for every class to reveal the identity of someone, whether it is difficult or not.

I think anonymity is fun, but it also loosens inhibitions, which can sometimes be a problem.
