Where does your character name come from?

Back to Common Grounds.

Maedhros is from The Silmarillion, which is kinda like a book about the history of Middle Earth and the Lord of the Rings universe.

Also, Jaichim, the Immortal guy is a character in the Wheel of Time series. Although I'm not sure if the name sprouts from the same origin, I know there is a character named Jaichim in the Wheel of Time.

I'm going to actually read the Silmarillion soon. It's collecting dust in my cupboard.

Cronus was a Titan in Ancient Greece, (hence it would be very fitting if I got level 99). He was the son of Ouranus, the Sky God, and father of Zeus/Poseidon/Hades. He was evil, and used to eat all his sons when they were born so they couldn't overthrow him as Ruler.

Cronus' father is also named after a Titan - Atlas. Atlas was a brother of Cronus, and lead the Titans against the Olympians, (Zeus' generation), because Cronus was too old.

(Because of his leadership, he was singled out for special treatment when they lost. All the others were banished to Tartarus, but he was forced to hold up the heavens on his back.)
Shiri2004-12-18 19:55:54
Shiri is my RL nickname, and my Seren character I stole and adapted from Naruto. Everyone else's I just made up on the spot. wink.gif

Shiri Shiri SHIRI. Why's your nickname Shiri?
Kaelar2004-12-18 20:01:15
Hrm... Started with K, tacked on a couple sounds, varied the spelling a bit. Voila, Kaelar. Not taken from anything in particular. smile.gif

Because...I'm not telling you. It just is. tongue.gif
Freki2004-12-18 20:10:03
Norse mythology for me. Geri and Freki are Odin's two wolven companions. I probably should've made him resemble a wolf more ...

A simple, unassuming, and pleasant name seemed fitting for a headcase of a Geomancer. It also helps her stand out a little among the many, many vowels.

Briseis is from Greek mythology, she was the slavegirl of Achilles.
My other character is derived from the Spanish word for "sly" or "crafty".
And my third (yes, I have a third), is from the Luminari priests of way-ancient history.
Rhysus2004-12-18 20:25:02
This is relatively convoluted. I needed to purchase a TI-89 Platinum Edition calculator for my calculus class. I did, and, as one is wont to do, began my search for calculator games. I found a relatively fun FFVII-based RPG, and one of the characters was named Rhyzar. I thought that was cool, but it sounded a bit too evil for the character. So I modified it to Rhysus, though I'm pretty sure that was more or less just my forgetting the original name and recreating it as best I could from memory.

Saros was taken from the name of the cycle that can be used to predict eclipses of the sun and the moon. This period is approximately 6585 days, so make sure to be around in Lusternia on the 21st of Shanthin, 224 CE for some fun.

Erm, I just used a name generator on the web...
Which explains my **** sounding name.

It's kind of boring, and I got lost in the plot a lot of times; as in, I got confused and had no idea what the hell was going on. So I'd only advise it if you really want to know everything that happens before and everything that leads up to the War of the Ring.

Took Olivia, changed the "i" to a "y", the "o" to an "a." That's pretty much where it came from. Sounds pretty. *nod me*

Gladheon comes from a book called, The Green Rider, it's also where I got Karigan from when I played Imperian, I later found out it's the name of a character on some game I never played.

My character's name is a variant on the Irish-Gaelic word for wisdon.
Roark2004-12-19 03:02:36
Roark is the star of the book "Fountainhead". I really liked that guy and borrowed mildly from his outlook on life. Though this Roark's personality is from a completely different character in another book, as is some other aspects of his life outlook that did not come from "Fountainhead"'s Roark.

Brona - Terry Brooks' Shannara Series. The name embodied what I what I wanted my character to be. I think the character is coming along quite nicely.

I've been meaning to read that book. As soon as I saw your name I went, 'Hmmm.'

Also- Guido is the name of an Immortal on the MUD I used to play. He was a crazy, egoistical jackass, and completely hilarious.
