I just tried to make one that sounded like a feline sound. I didn't like it (don't even remember what it was) and very soon decided to change it, so I just scrambled around some of the phonemes and then replaced a few.

I like the way it sounds, but later as more people came into Serenwilde and too many of them had "Gwy*" names (mostly "Gwyn*" names but even so), I'm still liking it but kind of wishing I had landed on something that wouldn't coincide with what a lot of other people ended up landing on too.

Now I'm struggling to find a family name that works with it. It'll just be sounds I put together, not a name taken from somewhere else (usually I do a Google search to make sure it isn't unintentionally something already used somewhere else, in fact).

I tend to make female names just using a lot of As and adding consonants in the middle, preferibly gutural ones and hs. Thus Angharad, Ankhara, Althana

And Iridiel, I think I heard from it somewhere and liked it.

All of my character names are from the Russian language (since I'm Russian, woot go me!)....like...some of my character's names would be...Krov (Blood) Ogon (Fire) and Kost (Bone)...at least I don't have to make up any fantasy crap biggrin.gif

I usually play with sounds, words, splatter them together decide if I want it sound chinese, russian, spanish or just like a guttural grunt. Sometimes I find out that that names I come out with are real words in other languages that perhaps I could've heard but didn't remember.

Rajakhut, for example was one of my alts' name. Raja (king)+Khut(light, I believe in egyptian?)
Yuisimonov (alt) (sounded watery, flow to me.
Uhrzok (alt) sounded Orclachish to me
Simimi2007-07-12 01:04:45
Simimi is my real name...

Prawawanee Simimi Wirotesakoon :also known as 'Mimi'.

If I marry my fiance' one day and take on his name in the Thai custom... my name would be....

Prawawanee Simimi Prasaohwahwa Wirotesakoon-Vanijkachorn

This has to be some sort of necro record
Shiri2007-07-13 01:11:21
It isn't, but it is pretty terrible as necroes go.

I wasn't even reading the post dates. I was just thinking to myself, "Wow, I haven't seen these people in a while. Since when did they start playing again?"
Noola2007-07-13 21:02:14
Well, since it's necro'd anyway... I'm not really sure how I decided on Noola. I never plan names ahead of time when making characters for games. Generally, I just type something when I'm asked for a name and then I try to say it. If I can say it, I hit enter and that's my character's name. I kind of think that I was thinking about the fact that I was making a new character and noo kind of sounds like new and it was a girl so I ended it with la... and so Noola.

I didn't even know it was a real name until one day I googled it and saw there were real people named Noola. laugh.gif
Karell2007-07-13 21:45:12
Yeah, since it's necroed.

Karel is the first name of the guy who invented the word 'Robot'. I added an extra L.
Isluna2007-07-13 21:51:43
Noola your name reminds me of noodles, that leads to doodles, and those are silly, so it fits you a good amount of the time. Yeah I think I still have a bit of fuzz on the brain for the pain killers, or maybe I am just losing it.

Isluna I came up with to fit her look more then anything. She always had the white in all her looks, that and she started out as a moondancer and Isadora was way to much for that. That name is greek by the way, and means gift of the moon, at least it did my last look up, and thats the name I normally use for games. I love mythical names.

Alef2007-07-13 22:15:13
I just came up with Alef on the spot. I thought it sounded fitting for what he was then (a Paladin).

Slightly off topic, but, I always thought a necro was when a thread was resurrected for something other than it's original purpose? This thread looks like it was brought back for what it was meant for.
Furien2007-07-13 22:28:54
I was just thinking of pretty names, and Alianna seemed to fit pretty well for the Cantor she originally was.

This is a necro because mr. 'the...erm...something?' has been going all over the forums, lately, necroing threads from about two years ago. It's getting really annoying. rolleyes.gif
Aramel2007-07-14 08:45:07
I made Aramel up out of the blue, by randomly hitting letters and then rearranging them to be more pleasing. It was originally for a bit of Lord of the Rings fanfic (before I ever learned what a Mary-Sue was unsure.gif ) but that came to nothing so Aramel's basically been recycled into all sorts of things.

What is it with these crowns on the smilies anyway? *mutter*
Vaera2007-07-14 17:37:00
Vaera came from me wanting a soft name. And it has more vowels than consonants. When I thought of it, it just made me feel all happy inside.

Then I used it on the character I started in Glomdoring...and my dark but happy character is now giggly and hums happy songs...

Sometimes I wish I hadn't left Glomdoring... unsure.gif
