thats what I mean
Unknown2004-12-23 05:22:20
Just sort of bored and thinking outloud.
Geomancer - Masonry or maybe like sculpting? Anyone ever consider having a bust made of someone they love, or to pay homage to a God or Goddess?
Nihilists - The ability to make, "living" beings from the parts of various things, possibly for remedial tasks or labor. ( I think the guildhall should change in atmosphere over time. Say, if rooms are not sweeped, they get dusty and such. These "Nerons," what I like to call them, would be for doing such tasks or possibly act as guards? Another idea which I thought would be cool would be that they can have a skill called Apocrathy, where through the mixing of various ingredients, a heart from someone, or an eye, etc, you could do anything from gaining stats for a short period of time, to making a big cloud of noxious fumes.
Serenguard - Widdling?

Serenguard - Widdling?

Serenguard - Widdling?

Er, just because they're like a boys club in the woods, doesn't mean they need to start -that- sort of pastime. Or does 'widdling' have another meaning that I don't know about?
Shoshana2004-12-24 04:30:35
How about Geomancers being able to breed Taint critters... Like, taking normal ones and exposing them to the Taint and them getting all warped and changed and stuff and breeding them to try get certain effects? Bet Mary would love that *grin*
Umm... I did have an idea for Serenguard but I can't for the life of me remember what it was *think*

The Taint no longers warp creatures.
Unknown2004-12-24 06:13:56
I think neat skills for Warriors would be flourishing. By that, I mean showing off your swordplay or whatever - mock combat, arcing your sword, twirling it in a flashy manner, you know.
Shoshana2004-12-24 06:50:19
It doesn't? Aww... I was so proud of that idea . Maybe they could have to use a spell or something which Taints the critter, seeing as they have a spell to Taint the ground even though it doesn't spread by itself...
An idea for warriors: Maybe they should be able to train hunting animals? Except that then people might think they're too similar to knights in every other IRE game... These wouldn't be for PK though, just hunting animals. That kinda goes together with the trophy idea too...
Er yes, I'm rather fixed on these ideas being based on growing things .

I think Braids meant "whittling," there.
And Shoshana is my new best friend.

Shoshana2004-12-25 06:15:15
Hehe, thought you might like it .
Whittling sounds good, but wouldn't that be more of an Arts thing?

I like the idea of Nihilists ripping off limbs and sticking them onto other thingummies.
So it would be like...
A disciple of Xiim is here, mutilated. In place of his, a has been gruesomely attached.
Or something.
As for us Celestines, we could have something to do with preaching? Maybe the ability to create a travelling chapel, and then we could ride around in it. And inside the chapel, we could have a statue of our diety, and worship it, and then if we wanted to fart around and meditate, we could go into our little chapel and do so.
Just me rambling, as usual.

Neat idea! One could invest time in making sure there was enough incense, keeping the holy symbol(s) clean, sanctifying it with regular prayer, making sure nothing dedicated to Elohora touched the ground, whatever. Would be very interesting if one could combine this with an actual sacrifice-stuff-on-it shrine...
Whittling would probably best work as part of a trade skill covering all sorts of woodcraft, including carpentry and papermaking, though this might produce problems with overlap (making staves and jewelry, etc.). Guardians might not appreciate the ability to make Tarot cards getting shuffled about, either, regardless of the pun I didn't notice until just then.
As for me? I want to breed fantods.

You want to what now?

" Gorey produced his own books under the imprint Fantod Press. Gorey described a fantod as 'the vapors, the nervous tizzies', and he was to personify them in some of his books as tiny, winged creatures carefully preserved in bell jars." (source, scroll down a bit)
A picture of a fantod; note the tail in the mouth.
I find them quite charming, really.

Quick idea for Serenguard whittling.. they could whittle stuff, and then.. *gasp *BRING IT TO LIFE! *cackle* Sorry, it's 3 in the morning. Anyway, yeah.. thoughts? Ideas?
Elryn2004-12-26 14:39:54
Etanru, I love the idea of the chapel, wonderful!
As for the suggestions of masonry and woodcraft and so on... remember that we already have trade skills for making a profit. The sort of skills I'm thinking of would be more suited to fleshing out the non-combat side of a guild's activities.

Hrm. But then I was thinking, about the whole chapel thing, then we get all Priest-esque and people started saying "O THEY B HOLI LET"S GO AND B HOLI WWHIT THEM"
But disregarding my comment, you can also only enter your chapel if you're at full health and mana, so that people don't end up racing into their chapels in the middle of combat. Also, the Seren-people (excuse the term) can grow exotic plants that can then be chopped into incense.
And you can only have as many statues in your personal chapel as you have pledged to, so if I pledged to three Supernals, I would have their three statues in my chapel. So with my statues on board, I would travel to a Shrine of an actual god or goddess (let's say Isune, since we all love Isune). I would take my corpses, go inside my chapel, and OFFER RAT TO ISUNE THROUGH RAZIELA, and then you would get a message something like this:
Bowing your head in fervent prayer, you offer a young rat to Lady Isune, Wings of Compassion, through the love of Raziela.
A statuette of Raziela glows with a pink light as the offering is accepted.
---
And then instead of the rat begin worth 15 essence, with might be worth twenty or something.
Whew, I'm all burnt out. Comments?

Well, if they're all having uses, even tiny weeny ones, the li'l taint-bred critters and/or aquafishies could tell you at what part of a demesne someone entered if demesne watch was on.
Unknown2004-12-26 16:14:51
AHHH!
The aquafishies!
The aquafishies!
Shiri2004-12-26 16:17:25
And the druids, for the same effect, could have...
THE KODAMA!
THE KODAMA!
Shoshana2004-12-26 17:03:25
Hehe, as cool as the Kodama are, I can't imagine being able to describe them properly in text... "Standing here is a little white blobby thing that makes a rattling noise as it shakes its head."
I was thinking the druids would have more plant-type things, like little bonzais or something .
