Eventually, I grew up and stopped talking to Lamar about starcraft over my family channel.
See, it didn't do anything for the game, and I had him on AIM anyway.
This is a true rpg. You're expected to rp. You're expected to stay ic. This is what this is. You can't play Soul Caliber and try to walk around and pick flowers, you'll piss everyone off. That game is a fighting game, and all you do is fight. This one is an rpg, and you roleplay. If the administrators of say, runescape, told everyone not to rp, and that it was an rp banned game, and to stay ooc the whole time, everyone should listen to them. They own it. They make the rules. For everyone to be blatantly ooc and to whine about not being able to have an ooc clan, it's like me whining that I still cannot have persons of the female type in my room. But you know what? It's not my house! I put some money into it, I spend a lot of time there, but ultimately, it's not mine. Even at 19, I still don't make the rules, I just abide by them. I think that's a great analogy for the game.
Please. Ban ooc channels. If you don't like it, make your own MUD.

You know, the reverse of that argument is that if you don't like them, you should make your own MUD. And, it makes about as much sense in that context, as well.
Like you say, authority makes the rules and everyone else is bound to follow them or move elsewhere. That's true of games, family, government, and any number of other things. What's also true is that it doesn't mean those rules are just or fair, or that we should sit idly by while fair rules become unfair ones. If you feel passionately about something, speak your mind and try to affect the system from within the system. That's really what we are each trying to do.

But I do like it.
Much like my analogy at home. Sometimes I don't like it, and I often think of moving out. But obviously I like it enough that I stay (free rent is nice too).
Hey, wait, Lusternia is free too!
I'm on fire today.

It's called roleplaying for a reason.

I'll give an example of when an OOC clan is useful. There's a Race the Gods in Imperian FUBARed, the Xiur. Basically, they gave the Xiur a defined RP, but didn't really fill in the blanks. So someone made a clan for the Xiur, which is often used IC, but at times we take it OOC to discuss the future of the race, and possible events.
clt Okay, so we hate Kinsarmar because...
and
clt F**king Neko and his D**med sap sap absolve on someone with 70 mana to begin with
Are two totally different forms of OOC. However, you can never trust anyone because we're all idiots, and if the clan was banned today, I'd know why.
Down with OOC, up with medication.

Make an msn group for that, or send a tell to someone?
Though, I -somewhat- understand your point, dear ic brother, that's kind of a rare situation, don't you think?

*ponder* You know, I wanted to get my friends a present for Christmas and they all live too far for me to send them packages. So..Nikua took his credit card, you know the one he gets from his bank, you know the bank in America. THe bank that's not in Lusternia. And he used his money, the money he makes from doing his job. You know...his job in America. And he went to www.lusternia.com. And he used that credit card to buy credits. And the credits went on Alyvia's character... you know the character in Lusternia..the game. So...we can't use RL money to buy in game stuff? We can't use game money to buy OOC stuff?
Ok, ramble over.
For the "why dont you use aim or msn part" are you really going to tell people what to do, or how to chat? If they really want to spend so much gold on an ooc clan...are you really going to tell them dont? Its what they do, who are you to tell them not to? If you want to use those applications, do it, but I dont think you have any right to tell them what their preference of chatting should be.
Aris2004-12-23 21:55:08
Um....no, you can't use game money to buy OOC stuff.
If you could, I'd be bling-blingin' in the 05 mustang.
Edit-I missed the rest of that apparently well thought out post.
You shouldn't be CHATTING on Lusternia in an OOC fashion. Go get a f**king chat room if you want to chat. This isn't your chat room, it's a friggin game. If I'm paying MY money to play a game that you backwards little elves are using as a chat room and it makes me want to throttle you, nobody wins.
You pay money to make it a chat room. But it is a game.
I pay money to PLAY the game. But IT IS a game.

By OOC, I meant an OOC clan.
Werent you quiting the game a while ago? why are you still here.... *shoo*

On a note I probably should have responded too earlier, but didn't - this should be made into a referendum. Okay, so it's not an accurate representation of the community, MAYBE, but hey, the idea of removing them is obviously popular enough among us that it MIGHT be popular among the others too. Worth a try, am I right?

Not going to bother reading all the threads. Probably been said before, but, hell, I'll say it anyway.
Credits are bought with OOC cash. And then sold for IC gold.
Explain that?

Well, OOC gold is hard to transfer over a text medium.
Seriously, though, please explain your actual point.

I don't pay money for you to play, nor do you pay money for me to play.
And if they're going to "watch" ooc clans, then they best start watching tells, too. Don't want the OOC sinking into there. Especially when my AIM dies, and Bricriu and I are still talking about a recipe for making chicken dumplings.
Unknown2004-12-24 00:00:47
Credits can be bought ooc and they can be bought Ic. The fact is, Credits are part of the game and it is your choice rather to get them or not so credits are both. Ic and ooc
Unknown2004-12-24 00:01:49
I agree with Erion. All IRE games are based around 1 thing, spending OOC money to make your character good. Everything in their games are around this one concept. So what you don't like OOC clans with OOC chatter? Explain to me how any IC clan, guild, or city channel makes sense IC. If I talk in a certain tone of voice only people in my city can hear me, and they can hear me wherever they are? Also, shouting is pretty OOC. I can shout from any place on the continent and then everyone can hear it? I must have a really loud voice. Tells and messaging also don't make any sense.
Then there is also logging out. Does it make sense that I can magically vanish for huge periods of time and then just return to the same place? When people log out it would make more IC sense for their bodies to remain where they left in a comma. If someone comes by and kills you then that's just too bad.
Face it, all IRE games are just a money factory (credits) with a roleplaying game loosely covering it. So what if people use the money they spent on the game to create an OOC channel in the game? Do you really think IRE is going to ban OOC clans when people pay them money to make them? Maybe if you were to pay them to ban them they would consider it.
PS: For those of you who claim you only by credits through IC means, credits are by definition OOC items. So you're spending gold on something OOC yourself hypocrite.

You would be right if credits were the only way to increase your character but of course your dead wrong. Credits are just something for people to increase their characters abilities faster. No one has to buy credits and you have the right to buy them or not. Credits are not defined ic or ooc because they exist in both worlds. And there is alot more rp in these Muds then credits.
Edit: Also, people can become stronger by gambling lessons and gold which is ic or winning contests for prizes which is ic. Credits is just one of many ways to help your characters

Unknown2004-12-24 00:11:04
Congratulations on ignoring my whole post. However, on the one part you mentioned, I would point out that credits only appear through the OOC purchase of a player. There is no other way to get transferable credits except from a player who payed IRL money for them. And you can then turn them into lessons. How does that work? I paid this guy money for an intangible "credit" that he can send from anywhere in the game to me and now I can use it to be better at something without any kind of effort. Real IC there.
Edit: You mean IC contests like making OOC maps to be put on the OOC website? Real IC there.
