Maybe it hasn't been downgraded? but its a useless skill to begin with. Its a glorified web tattoo that does damage and takens 8 power!
even if it takes you 3 seconds to get balance back, you still writhe for around 3 seconds, 7 second eq well they STILL get 1 second extra over the crucifier.
not only that, they have a whole extra time for us to regen 1 power to sacrafice. CMON!
You shouldn't be able to writhe with all limbs broken, what are you going to writhe with? your broken stumps? Even if they changed writhe times to take longer per broken limb.
If you couldn't writhe while all limbs broken would make it a lot better, or even took ages, so its like vivisect in achaea (do-able instakill) just takes a little longer and is good for RP

When I see someone writhing, they're not using their arms, just sort of...wriggling their body around trying to get out. Like when you're tied up, you can still writhe, your arms aren't involved. Not a balance issue, just...a...thing.
Daganev2004-12-28 02:16:22
Everyone go watch "The Crippled Masters"... No arms and no legs means nothing to a master warrior.
One might think you need arms to wield a bo and kill people with it, but no... you do not.

It's only a flesh wound.
Murphy2004-12-28 02:21:10
yeah but if you are tied up in ropes or a mass of webbing, you use your arms and legs to help, like shoulders and arms, and once the bounds loosen you use your arms and legs to help kick it all free.
in an impaled sense you still use the momentum of arms and legs to writhe and move around, if those arms are stuffed then itll take longer.
also can you writhe paralysed? food for thought. and could you focus your fine motor skills while impaled? you can't seem to do anything except for writhe when your foot in pinned. Hrm

no seriously... do a google search for it.. The movie was made in 82 or 79 or something....
Maedhros2004-12-28 02:26:25
Well, Daganev, I'm sure most people don't bother mastering the art of fighting with stumps .
Stetson2004-12-28 05:36:27
Uh yeah, for 8 power, and something near trans. I would expect a little more than what it does. (I personally don't have it, but have had it used on me). The damage is few, and far between. Viscanti regen can pretty much keep up with the damage. (not everyone has that kind of regeneration, but obviously it implies some sparkleberry, and a health vial could certainly keep you alive).
Daganev2004-12-28 06:13:38
there were 16 years before when you were born and now... If you can restore your broken limbs with a thought, then I'm pretty sure you also spent a year training your usage of stumps.
I find crucify fun at parties but thats about it.
Why does Evoke Gevurah which gives you +1 str cost 3 power, but flex which gives +2 str not cost any? *peer*

Or "Return of the Five Deadly Venoms"!

Note the movie title. "Crippled Masters"
If you're a titan, then yeah, you could writhe about with no arms and no legs.
But we lesser beings tend to require out various appendages for use with certain things, such as shaking ourselves off a big cross. Sure, you can flail about with no workable arms and legs (which brings to mind a whole manner of "What do you call a man with no arms and no legs..." jokes) but you tend to need them, and realistically, if you're stuck like a pig on an iron cross, you'd need to be pretty mentally hardened to think to yourself "Rightio, arms don't work... legs don't work...ok, leading with the left shoulder, kicking out with the right stump, pushing forward with the head and....VOILA! Now to roll away"

Good point zhaine thats what i was thinking about too. writhe should take as long as we have to regain EQ and generate 1 more power while crucified with arms and legs broken
and it should also be scaled up, IE 1 leg a bit longer both legs much longer, 2 legs + arm ages and all 4 long enough to sacrifice.

If anything, player abilities seem to imply that we are titans.
I open up your gut and have pools of blood on the floor... ok just sip this little potion... all better now.
All 4 limbs are broken.. hmm just a little thought here and little htought there and voila! all limbs are back to normal.

An old chinese wise man once told me "The human mind is a pooooooowerful thing young grasshopper. With a mere thought, you can take control over your body, and do things that a lesser man cannot"
Of course, he died of a brain tumor, but thats not the point. (Though strangely ironic)
The point is, that yes, we have skills like Restore to heal our limbs, and sipping a potion or gulping down a herb, to heal massive bloodloss, or instantly cure that which ails us, HOWEVER, though living in a fantasy realm, the basic principle of not being able to achieve acrobatic, or even many basic, feats without the use of any limbs is a staple.
People like to quote the "realistic probabilities" in games like these, like the Influencing changes which were made somewhat recently, which if I remember correctly, many were argued about on these very forums, the major argument being "It's not realistic for that happen" (Example being Magnagora slaughtering entire villages then coming back and influencing them). By those same "realistic probablities" that people like to use, I quote my own "realistic probability" that if you have four broken limbs and have your backside nailed to giant whoppin huge cross, apparently "bleeding like a stuck pig" you're not going to say "Dammit, you SCRAPED MY KNEE!", shake yourself free lickitty split, and then wander off before the person that nailed you there can give the world a blank expression and say "Whatthe?"

yeah agree there Zhaine.j if you can't wield a weapon with a broken arm, why the hell and you writhe perfectly with all of them broken?
Obvioulsy in lusternia there is a universal law or series of laws and constants, and i feel this doesn't keep with the whole scheme of things
EDIT: Damn right I meant can't, you people should knwo these and read my mind.

Uhh, you can't wield a weapon with a broken arm. Not even a two-handed one.
Shoshana2004-12-29 13:59:46
He probably meant "can't". Yay typos!
Zhaine2004-12-29 18:19:56
The dynamic duo strike again?
Yeesh, some people will do anything just to rack up another post to the count.
.....
P.S I agree Murphy, completely.
There, now it wasn't a complete waste.

Instead of whining on a post about how horrible a skill is, get your envoy to include it in their next report, you will have a better chance of seeing it changed then. Also, a nihilist who knows what they are doing can easily kill with crucify/sacrifice. The Ur'guard on the other hand will find it less useful, just as the paladins find Inquisition less useful.
