There are a few commands in the game that lets you view a lot of information, like honours, rankings, and help. People have already talked about honours and it's unrealistic-ness, so here's a way I thought up of to make 'honours' make sense.
Everyone in Lusternia receives a little companion, what I had in mind was a tiny tiny mote of light, or fairy or animal, you get the idea. It would never really exist in physical form, like you can't look at it or touch it. Everytime you use 'honours', something like...
"A tiny blip whizzes by and drops a magical scroll into your hands"
or
"Popo the Blip poofs into your hands and hands you a magical scroll"
And then you'd see the honours. Blip is what I thought they could be called, by the way. And if you want to go more in-depth maybe people can name their Blip too
Anyways, this is the same for rankings and help. The magical scroll does not really have a physical form either, and it just disappears when you are done. Finally, all the data, scrolls and statistics can be kept in some place, maybe the Hall of Records or a new little area, and that would explain where the scrolls come from and how people are able to view information like that.
Ok, so comments, criticisms, suggestions?

Go to a records location (like a news room) and you can acsess honors and stuff.
Dunno, I don't think everyone should have a magical companion, because some classes get them as ents.

I do not think he meant that everyone got their own unique creature. I think he meant that there would be this creature that would drop a scroll which would be the HONOURS. Because saying 'Look at his HONOURS!' is really not IC.
At least that is what I got from reading.

Again I say, I do not think he meant your own unique creature. That would mean that everyone would have something different. What I said was that they would have a creature that is exactly the same that everyone else has.

I'd personally prefer that honors and rankings only be accessed in the Hall of Records, and people who completed honor's quest honored at the site of the quest...

I think that you should only be able to honors someone from the Hall of Records. It would be irritating as hell, but we'd get used to it. No more "hey, you're 12343% of my might!" all the time.
It would make it more realistic too. You couldn't honors someone on the spot. People would get surprised every once in a while.

I would love a change like this. Even though I use HONOURS quite heavily.
The hall-of-records one, that is. Magical companion thing would be kinda bizarre.

Hmm accessing directly from Hall of Records, didn't think of that. It's good. And the companion, all it -really- would do is add an extra message or line everytime people use honours and the like.

Perhaps it falls under the same realm of feat as tells and channels. Perhaps, like when we send aetherwaves, we tap into some kind of mental power of the planes...the question is, who exactly is it that knows so much that replies...mysterious omniscient power!
Richter2004-12-30 07:02:56
A God/server? Interesting idea.

I always thought of them as being public records. Private clans, cityrank, order, ect. is more classified information. The files are all kept in the Hall of Records by a bunch of musty old men and are hooked up to an aether node from which anyone can call up the information at any time. People in a city, for example, would be recognized as such and have the data regarding city rank unlocked to them, ect. Quite simple.
