I've never had a pipe/vial/pack, but I'll probably trade in my flowerpot for a couple pipes or vials eventually.

One artifact I've never understood the popularity of is the artifact pack.  What's so great about having a pack that doesn't decay?  Is it really that hard to get a new one?

I think the fact that it can hold so many items is the main selling point. Also that one artifact pack halves decay time, which could be useful. I want to know if it affects quest items... wink.gif

Don't buy a gem if you still have skills to trans out.

I would add to that the tophat. That one boggle my mind. While I still maintain that the Gem of Cloaking is useful (having owned one as a mortal), I do admit that it sells more popularly than I would expect, as do the artifact packs and especially the tophat.
Shiri2004-12-31 18:29:30
I think the tophat costs about £5 though, so it was a sort of, "Well, whatever" type thing people bought when they had cash to blow. £5 is nothing for a lot of people. (I'd expect the £50 or whatever a gem costs is a bit more.)
Unknown2004-12-31 19:16:28
What does the Tophat do? All I know is that its some artifact from Achaea.
Shiri2004-12-31 19:22:54
It's this random thing that costs like 20 credits, which is probably about £5 or less, and if you put things in it you get them out randomly, for raffles and stuff. Which is UTTERLY pointless, because you can use a calculator on your computer, or there's probably some websites that can do it even.
Unknown2004-12-31 19:31:15
People have no way of knowing if you're rigging it or not with a calculator though.

Top hats also have style cool.gif wub.gif

I owned a gem of cloaking in Imperian, and it was immensely useful. Roark, the second you put WARNING in in Discernment or Environment, I will purchase one. Warning was the greatest skill ever created. Basically, you turn it on, and it takes a constant drain of mana. However, whenever someone farsees, scrys, windows, uses farscout, etc, it gives me the message "You sense that is seeking your location."

Edit: It is great for the paranoia too... I used to ask everyone that ever farsee'd me, who they were and why were they farseeing me, heh.
Shiri2004-12-31 21:12:43
Yeah, I always wanted a bell tattoo, but with only the 5 slots...(or 6, I forget)...just wasn't worth it compared to all them thar boars and stuff.
Unknown2004-12-31 23:50:45
Bell tattoos don't warn you if someone is seeking your location like warning. Bell tattoos are completely different and unrelated to Warning.
Unknown2005-01-01 00:06:27
I still think cloaking isn't as useful unless it somehow gets rid of farscout. THEN I'd consider it wink.gif
Shiri2005-01-01 00:42:05
Huh, really? What's a bell tattoo do then? That's always the way it was explained to me.

Guess you've never logged on to check news, didn't notice your pack decayed, hit quit, left for work, came back to find your 129k gold had dropped out. Or logged on, to get smacked by the avenger after your pack decayed(while offline).

P.S. Thanks Sudoxe, you are amazingly honest.

Think it lets you know when people are spying on you, but not who.
Unknown2005-01-01 19:38:23
The bell tattoo did nothing in Achaea and still hasn't been fixed, or made useful.

Artifact gems are quite nice, as are packs, but both of those are lower priority than trans skills. Basic defensive and offensive artifacts can go before skills, then trans everything, then the real fun toys.
Akraasiel2005-01-01 20:07:32
Bell tattoos alerted you when someone was using Vodun Spy, monitoring your tells, etc.

Tell works, but it warns the person that you are looking for them. Element of surprise goes away if you wanted to stalk him. Scry also works. The problem with that and tell, though, is you have to do it for everyone you want to target, whereas QW shows you everyone immediately. I will agree that the item does seem a bit underwhelming in my own personal from being a long-time player, but it actually is a fairly popular item. So there are plenty of people who do like it. (And I must admit that I owned one as well in Achaea...)

Actually you can just TELL with no message attached to discern if they are about without giving them any forewarning.
Maedhros2005-01-01 20:27:58
Tell doesn't work. Even if the person is offline, it'll say "What do you want to say?" or something like that.

What you do is just type their name, like if I wanted to check if Joe was online...

WHAT NOT DO TO
Tell Joe

WHAT TO DO
Joe

If the person is offline, it'll go "What do you mean?" or whatever, and if they are it'll go "What do you want to say?".

This only works if you're on the same plane, by the way.
