Illusion length

I was playing with my illusion skill and though I'm new to this game, I've noticed that I can't illusion some of the most basic moves in the game, which makes me wonder how useful the skill is going to be.

253h, 245m, 515e, 10p ex-weave illusion With a focused look, Valek strikes at you with a exquisitely crafted draconic broadsword. Valek strikes your right leg, striking a major artery which splurts blood in all directions.

That illusion is too complex and you fail to weave it successfully.
253h, 245m, 515e, 10p ex-

Thoughts? That looks like a slash without a toxin, I would think from other games that there would be a toxin included a fair amount of the time but obviously that much is out of the question. Ironically, I think that if Valek used weapons with shorter descriptions or I used someone with a shorter name this could work as an illusion, so if such illusions would be allowed, the length might as well be increased I would hope.
Hazar2004-12-31 19:49:04
Well, what's you rank in illusions? If you have Capable illusions, you're not going to be able to craft that.

I have to say, though, I didn't follow any of that.
Shiri2004-12-31 19:52:22
Huh, illusion skill influences illusion length maximum? Neat, I didn't know that.

Anyway, since you didn't follow, what he was saying was that if he illusioned Valek doing things with a simpler weapon, it'd let him, but he can't do a convincing one with Valek's swords, so he wanted the length increased.

Perhaps you just don't have enough mana to do one that long. 245 isn't a lot; gain a handful of levels and try again.
Hazar2004-12-31 19:57:59
No, doesn't it then say something about 'You aren't having the mana to do that'?
Shiri2004-12-31 19:59:39
It's only like one mana per character anyway.
Shamarah2004-12-31 20:00:23
Mana cost is fixed for regular illusion (and it's very low), only improved changes its cost based on the length.
Shiri2004-12-31 20:01:57
Oh yeah. I haven't been a mage in ages. Nevermind me.
Unknown2004-12-31 20:09:42
So there's an illusions skill that lets you make longer illusions?
Shiri2004-12-31 20:15:44
No, but the way Hazar puts it if you're master/expert/trans illusions you're going to be able to make longer ones. Improved illusions just let you put delay timers on their arrival, and make them come out in colours too. (Why you would want them in colours I don't know, since it's highly unlikely anyone good has the same colour scheme as you.)

He just meant that they are unlikely to use a common set of colors.

Anyway, in Achaea I only used my illusions for fun, and enjoyed the colors. I loved having big red dragons stomp into the room and eat someone; scared the hell of of newbies.
Shiri2004-12-31 21:00:35
You are EVIL Guido.

I did it too. halo.gif

Well not often, and only on people from school I knew. I had a guy from my class get killed by a red butterfly, confused the hell out of him. biggrin.gif

I played a Syssin on Aetolia once, and I illusioned Varian appearing and telling newbies to drop their gold and elixirs. I got about 5k and ten or so health elixirs before they caught on and told the Syssin leaders. I got outguilded, but it was fun. tongue.gif

Some ass did that to me when I was a newbie.

Needless to say, I forever held a vengeance against Shadowsnakes.

Well, then I actually forgot about it.

Until today!

I think that might have been me. huh.gif

Someone tried to do that to me on Aetolia when I was a novice, but I told them it wasn't a good idea to impersonate gods and moved on tongue.gif

Can't remember the name of who it was, though.

Gasp. I found my arch-nemesis of five minutes like 1 and a half real life years ago!
Annelia2005-01-01 16:07:34
I believe the skill improved lets you get the longer ones going plus you can add colour and time delay to that.

Stop hijacking threads tongue.gif
I remember on Achaea i was requesting those newbies with illusions to get a headless chicken walking in at one of the newbie areas :> Some were shocking but it was fun for a couple of hours.
Arilyon2005-01-01 18:44:01
Improved illusions does allow you to make longer illusions at a cost of one mana per character, but the problem is that the weaver also sees the illusion so it affects them as well.
