Just for fun, post what you wrote for your builder's application.

I'm rather proud of this one:

Temple of Fain
An eerie silence blankets the area adding to the foreboding air of the unnatural chamber; the Taint writhes on the walls, absorbing light and basking the chamber in a red glow. Stone pillars jet from the Tainted marble floor, supporting an eye-wrenching ceiling; mosaics paint the ceiling, depicting scenes of those who have displeased Lord Fain: on one, a Merian writhes, nailed brutally to a midnight black cross painted red with his blood, sapphire-blue face twisted in agony, mouth opened in a frozen scream. On another, an Elfen wears a similar expression of pain, lying in a heap at the feet of a smirking Orclach, wielding a cruelly jagged bloodstone blade slick with blood. At the center of the chamber a giant column of obsidian rises, reverently holding a crimson mask wreathed in flames; a monument to the evil Lord, carved in the likeness of His shrine. Hate and malice radiate from the mask, polluting the chamber with the very essence of the Undead God.

Short but sweet:

Ur’Guard Armoury
Periodic screams puncture the otherwise silent shop. All manners of battle armament decorate the walls; cruelly curved scimitars, viciously spiked flails, gleaming plates of armour in various designs. The building is more suited to an execution chamber rather than a shop; scalps litter the floor, staining the wooden tiles dark red, the feel accented by the rivers of dried blood running down the walls. Curiously, the shop smells of burning irons, and scalded flesh.

Argh, starting to run out of ideas:

Road Through Serenwilde
Packed dirt lines the road, worn down by generations of feet. Much effort has been put into disturbing nature as little as possible; the road is thin, snaking around trees, purposely crafted so to avoid agitation to the trees. The trees themselves are magnificent, the fingers of nature beckoning out to the heavens, dark green leaves spreading from branches starting thirty feet up; the tops of the trees are indiscernible at this elevation. Eyes seem to watch unseen, wary of those that would bring harm to the forests.

I don't really like this one, but meh:

A Rank Prison Cell
The sheer stink of the cell almost completely obliterates the senses; blood and sweat mix with the stench emanating from a filthy chamber pot to conjure a truly rancid setting. Darkly tiled stone walls close in from all sides, separated from one another by a scarce few paces, leaving hardly enough room to sit, let alone lie down. Murky water drips slowly from the ceiling, slow and deliberately enough to drive a man insane. Steel shackles are implemented into the walls, gruesome bits of skin of the last occupant still attached on, glued on by the dry blood streaking down the dull steel. The tiny cell draws dread and despair as honey draws bees.

This one is utter crap. I RAN OUT OF IDEAS OK?:

Secret Room
Clothes are carelessly scattered around the room, clearly not the possessions of its occupants; the clothes range from regal silk dresses to filthy cotton rags. Jewelry litters the simple wooden shelves on the walls, blood-red rubies, sapphires large as a human hand, even a single masterfully cut diamond, catching and refracting light in its graceful folds. Oil lamps burn fitfully in a corner of the room, illuminating several labeled jars; “Mantakaya” reads one, “Crotamine” another.

Just described some landscape I found on google. Dunno if it's any good:

Small Hills
Gently rolling hills rise softly from the earth, an absence of trees allowing for a pleasant eyeful. Short grass crops on the multitude of low, gently sloping hills, appearing to fuse at a distance to create an illusion of solid green hills. Jutting mountains intrude the beautiful landscape, though visible only along the horizon, snow powdering the peaks like icing. A thin river cuts across the land, rushing hastily to join a crystal clear lake that reflects a still image of the vast heavens. The light trickling of water flowing soothes the ears, adding to the mysterious air of the peaceful lands.

Crappiest one, in my opinion. HOW DO YOU DESCRIBE SAND?:

Vast Desert
Parched sand stretches for miles into the horizon, undisturbed save by occasional dunes intruding upon the flat land. Harsh winds stir up a thin sheet of sand, offering no respite to the unmerciful heat; despite the illusion of softness created by flat, rolling plains of sand, nothing is soft in the way the sheet of sand bludgeons those unlucky or foolish enough to wander into it’s domain.

Inspired by Shadar Logoth from the Wheel of Time. Would've made it sweeter, but I ran out of time:

View Of a City From A Hilltop
Copses of dead trees scatter the dead city, stripped branches feebly stretching into the sky. Towers of unimaginable heights penetrate the very heavens, though most abruptly end jagged, as if torn apart by the lightning of the Gods. An ancient dome rises from the ruins, holding itself unsupported despite an uneven scar down one side, destroying the otherwise perfect symmetry of the magnificent building. Unseen eyes seem to probe from every direction, stripping any sense of privacy with a ruthless intensity, as if the evil that destroyed this magnificent city dwells still within its ruins. They peer from the windows of the houses and shops sprawling in every direction, hungrily anticipating the next victim to wander within their grasp.

Bleh. Out of ideas once again:

A Church
An immediate feeling of warmth and intimacy spring up from the sacred structure. Aisles of wooden benches sit on both sides of the building, allowing room for a path leading to a raised platform, upon which rests a gilded chair crafted of vertical lines, beautiful in its simplicity. Red carpeting lines the path, coming to rest at the feet of the chair. An enormous gilded cross rises behind the chair, dwarfing all else in the room, gleaming brightly with a holy luster. Mosaics line the walls, depicting surprisingly accurate pictures of famous saints, of great heroes selflessly throwing themselves at hordes of foul creatures. The ceiling itself is one huge mosaic, a still portrait of the beautiful Princess Marilynth, skin shining unnaturally. An aura of a gentle yet powerful peace resides over the room.

I don't think I described the setting too well on this one, but I had to write it in about a couple of minutes when I realized I only had 9 descriptions:

A Pub
Raucous laughter deafens the ears as a sour stink of alcohol and vomit emits from all directions. The pub is packed of men and women alike seated at simple wooden stools, sharing a story, a drink, or, in some cases, a song, though a few sit silently, peering into their mugs as if hoping to find an answer to questions unknown in the brown liquid. The rattling of dice sounds from the back of the pub, followed immediately by cries of glee and frustration alike, though one no less loud than the other. Serving maids make their way through the crowd with long-drawn faces, gracefully dodging pinches and leers from the drunken patrons. Bottles of all sorts, be it wine, brandy or ale, rest on shelves behind a stout wooden bar. Street toughs are placed at the bar and entrances, calmly observing, ensuring that nothing gets out of hand.

Come on people, it's not like I'm gonna go steal your application dry.gif. Any criticism is welcome too, I know these aren't the best I've done, but being under time pressure does that to you.

I'm far better at rhyming poems biggrin.gif. Riyo/Dooksta can attest to this, I'll post my baby rat one if I ever find it.

1. Before a crumbling stone mansion.
Due north of here stands a grey stone building which has seen better days. The walls are gradually crumbling as the mortar is scratched away by wind and rain. Once white, they are now covered in the dust of decades and a fine layer of soot. Leading from the wrought iron gate, which hangs crookedly on its hinges, to the heavy oak front door was once a path of white gravel, which has long since been scattered through the flowerbeds. Trees with twisted branches and blackened bark stand like soldiers along the path, sheltering in their shade a collection of limp, sour-smelling flowers.
(exits: north to 2 (open door))

2. A wide entrance hall lined with portraits.
The battered oak door of this mansion opens onto a wide entrance hall. Heavy velvet curtains are drawn across each window, keeping out a good portion of the light from outside, though their hems are badly tattered. The smell of mildew stings the nostrils here, coming from the damp woollen carpet that slinks along the floor from one end of the hall to the other. Along the walls are expensively framed portraits of Viscanti with crimson skin and lavish clothing in fine fabrics and jewels. There is a marked family resemblance among the subjects. The brass nameplates of each frame are severely tarnished, and each wall bears scorch-marks that rise from the floor to lick at the gilded portrait-frames.
(exits: northwest to 4, north to 3, northeast to 10, south to 1 (open door))

3. Within a shelved drawing room.
Acting as both library and sitting room, the walls of this chamber are lined with empty bookshelves from floor to ceiling. The previous inhabitants of these shelves are haphazardly scattered around the room, pages torn out and even charred in the granite fireplace that occupies the eastern wall. The lack of windows here creates a gloomy and oppressive atmosphere when combined with the dust that pervades each corner of the house. Deep leather armchairs and other dark wood furnishings give a weak impression of homeliness to this room touched by havoc.
(exits: west to 4, north to 9, east to 10, south to 2)

4. A gruesome trophy room.
Only the meagre amount of light that is able to push past the heavy curtains illuminates this place, casting shadows dark as pitch on the hideous trophies that line these walls. Horns and skins of all kinds are mounted onto the grimy surfaces of the room, high above head height. Gruesomely, these trophies appear to be not only of animals, but also mortalkind: the blue tanned skin of a Merian stretched out on a frame, the head of a Tae’dae, its glass eyes winking in the darkness, and terribly sharp Loboshigaru teeth still set in their jaws above the entrance to a stairwell leading upstairs.
(exits: southeast to 2t, east to 3, up to 7)

5. A tiled kitchen in perpetual disarray.
Pots and pans are scattered over the grimy black and white tiled floor of this kitchen. Its low roof results in an oppressive atmosphere, with the dust and dirt that coat the windows and basin only adding to this effect. Decaying curtains of red cotton, embroidered with white calla lilies, barely hide a view of the garden from the small window above the room's sink. Several hessian bags lie in the open cupboards, insects swarming over their surfaces. Several small rodents have fashioned nests with the remains of cookery books, shredding the pages and creating homes underneath up-turned pots that smell horribly of bodily wastes. A perpetual drip from the tap echoes around the otherwise still room as its hits the metal sink.
(exits: south to 10, out to 6)

6. A sickly and neglected kitchen garden.
Separated from other parts of the garden by a rangy hedge of low-lying pine, this garden would act as a source of fresh herbs and vegetables for the chef of the house. Now, however, the hedge has grown to strangle the other plants. The soil is of poor quality, sandy underfoot and holding little water. The few plants still flourishing are becoming gnarled and malnourished, growing as weeds do. The remains of several vegetables lie rotting on the ground, the teethmarks of a mammalian pest evident in their flesh.
(exits: in to 5)

7. Inside an elegant bedchamber.
Tall bay windows and a set of glass doors allow slivers of light into this room, through gaps in the dark curtains that obscure any view of the outside. The doors are open, leading out onto a balcony. However, they swing back and forth in any gust of wind and allow leaves dropped from the surrounding trees into the room which pile up in its corners. A wide four-posted bed occupies most of the room, along with a vanity and several cupboards. The stench of spoiled perfume emanates from the dressing table in the corner, filling this room with the scent of dead flowers.
(exits: down to 4, out to 8)

8. Upon a balcony overlooking the garden.
An extension of the bedroom inside, this balcony serves as an outdoor living room and dining area. It is planked with dark wooden decking, matched to the edging of the glass doors that lead back to the bedroom. A set of white garden furniture graces the ground below this balcony, its wood gradually returning to the soil that gave life to it. Several tall plant boxes rest along the edge of the balcony, with lifeless twigs imitating the shrubs that would previously have grown inside them. From this vantage point can be seen the sadly neglected gardens of the wide-ranging estate.
(exits: in to 7)

9. A child's playroom filled with macabre toys.
Ironically, this room is one of the most orderly in this crumbling manor. It is wallpapered with many hand-painted watercolours, showing mortals of many different races. Spread out over the floorboards is a deep-pile woollen rug with intricate patterns in dark blue and red. Haphazardly exploring the carpet are many scattered wooden toys, intricately carved with care. They are stained to a gruesomely lifelike colour, a sickening imitation of life in the twisted forms of undead creatures, fearsome Orclach and regal Viscanti. A pitiful horse, its ribs showing through its patchy hair, rocks back and forth with a whisper-soft creak.
(exits: south to 3)

10. Within a long dining room.
A constant wind blows into this room and glass covers the floor, a result of the broken windows along the eastern wall. The curtains flutter in a constant sorrowful dance, their tattered edges providing little defence against light and weather. The once grand table that runs the length of this room is being overtaken by both white termites and rising damp, threatening to collapse onto the scuffed floorboards and complete the destruction of the room. A single oil painting is left hanging on the wall, showing a copse of dishevelled trees with menacing red sparks flickering at their roots.
(exits: west to 3, southwest to 2, north to 5)

A darker side of my personality shows through with these. Scary, but I like.
Maedhros2005-01-04 04:22:53
Oo, VERY nice. It's really neat how they're all linked and stuff.
Nika2005-01-04 04:31:18
Yeah, I mapped it out and everything. I was kind of bored, and it was late at night. happy.gif
Daganev2005-01-04 04:32:45
I made my attempt before giving up and realizing there are better builders out there who want the job more than i do...

Beginning of a Path Through the Plains
As the peak of this hill gives way, a large empty field of golden yellow encompasses all that can be seen in the northernly direction. Amidst the endless sea of brush and dry vegetation a dark scar mars the solid color of the plains. The road that began at the bottom of the Hills of Rhazine, appears to end at your feet, and a new road, leading to the lost village of Standrapille is marked by the distinctive softer colored dirt that gives the plains their soft glow.

Base of Rhazine Hills, on the Path Through the Plains
The soft brown dirt that marks this road would appear to be light in any other place, but here, at the beginning of the endless Plains it is one of the darkest colors you see in contrast to the glowing amber fields that flow off from the edges of this north-south road. As the winds flow down from the hills, the smell of fresh grass and flowers confuse the most inexperienced explorers as their eyes and nose do not appear to be sensing the same place. The short brush that dots the road to the east and west look to be dry and unpleasant to touch. (this line here could be a clue as to what type of plant a villager in the lost village will want to make itching powder)

Path Through the Plains
The occasional bush pushes through the endless field of tall grass and sounds of the wind whisks over the tops of the plants. The dirt road that stretches to the horizon curves drastically at this point, making the hills to the south look as if they were parallel to the road rather than the starting point. A groundhog chases a hare through the brush adding to the vibrancy of the plains.

*sigh* I could only think of three.

A room full of nothing.
You see nothing here.
You see no exits.

A room full of everything.
You see everything here.
You see exits everywhere.

A room with a giant cow.
Pictures of childish litter the room. Drawings that depict people saying such things as " I speak cowuneese" and "Moo to you too". In the center of the room is a huge ceremic cow statue towering high above you.
Accursed Munsia D'cente, The mortal wanderer is here.
You see exits no where. You are trapped. Abandon all hope.

Shiri2005-01-04 17:49:06
Okay, now I'm home, I'll post what I wrote. I had no IDEA the competition was so fierce, or I would have spared myself the embarrassment and not even tried. wacko.gif

Vortex -
A veritable explosion of light flashes across the atmosphere here, accompanied by the occasional roll of thunder. A heady scent fills the air, and a shifting haze obscures the horizons, lending the place an unsettling effect. The sky, and to some extent even the ground, shimmer and ripple with a spectrum of colours, and the air seems almost thick to the touch.

Fire Elemental Plane -
From the base of this volcano, the cone at the top seems impossibly far away as it belches out a constant stream of smog into the acrid-smelling atmosphere. Small, charred-looking reptiles scatter the mountainside nearby, hunting miniscule black mothlike creatures. Occasionally a rock tumbles down the slope, disrupting the constant, loud hum emerging from deep underground.

Air Elemental Plane -
Resting on clouds so thickly gathered as to be solid, this thin plateau of dust is surrounded by nothing but open air in every direction. Wind currents buffet the clouds periodically, causing them to break apart into small islands. Wisps of fog rise up in sudden swirls occasionally, and geysers of air and dust erupt from the ground, disturbed by some unknown presence beneath.

Hallifax -
Towering spires of beautiful architecture are visible from the top of this building, seeming to reach for the sky itself. A beautiful marble statue of a trill can be seen in the centre of an open square close to the largest tower, and in one spot a fountain gushes with water, surrounded by several artistically-crafted benches.

Glomdoring -
Surrounded by the tainted earth, the stale air combines with the smell of rotting wood to create an oppressive atmosphere. Enough light filters through from the surface to illuminate muddy walls, from which scrabbling sounds emerge, as though something buried within is trying to escape.

Continuum -
The view from the top of this immense cliff shows a panorama of mountains of pure glass, which scatter this region, interspersed with narrow passes. Further from the Matrix the passes seem to narrow as the mountains converge until it is impossible to distinguish one from another. Light from some invisible source reflects oddly off each identically-formed peak, giving the impression of a multitude of crystalline sentries standing watch against whatever might disrupt the empty serenity. The sky somehow remains pristine despite the proximity to the more distant spires of a faint black cloud visible in the distance.

This field is perfectly organised, with various alien plants growing in rows as far as the eye can see. Eerily-humanoid metallic constructions working in the distance occasionally reach down to gather a full-grown plant or reshuffle the flat, featureless soil in calm efficience. The silence is broken by a faint hissing noise emerging from the soil. A thin, black vapour rises from something indiscernable in the area, hovering above the field in a noxious-looking, stagnant cloud which mars the air with its pungent odour.

Incredible howling winds blow into this wide crevasse, drowning out all external noise. A rocky path spirals around the interior of the cylindrical chasm, and far below it is possible to see a rocky cavern. Tunneled and shaped with the relentless gale into an insanely complex labyrinth, despite all probability the walls retain a twisted symmetry. Bar the sheltered path down the closest ring of the crevice to the outside of the cavern, the wind is far too strong to allow any form of flight, preventing direct access to the central region. Odd runes in an unknown language are carved into the walls all the way down the chasm, arranged in patterns that seem to tug on the edge of an onlooker's consciousness.

A tranquil lake spans out over the flat plains here, unnaturally rigid and unvarying trees sporadically surrounding the water's edge. Unlike the soil, which is a featureless grey, the lake's surface bears a metallic sheen, which faintly shines with otherworldly light rather than reflects its surroudings. Barely visible aquatic lifeforms can be seen somehow moving slowly under the water without disturbing it.

At the precise centre of the plane of Continuum, suspended in perfect stillness several hundred metres above the Matrix, this near-perfectly formed sphere is deformed only by a circular area at the base that allows an unspoiled view of the glass mountains, overcast fields and tranquil lakes beneath. Several pillars of what appears to be a highly reflective metal protrude from evenly-situated points in the sphere, centring to support a circular casing. Broken only by the pillars, the inside of the sphere is covered entirely in an odd reflective surface that is confusing to the eye, somehow reflecting the beholder in a single image wherever they look.
Shamarah2005-01-04 20:18:27
Nothing fancy, but I think they turned out decent...

An impassable wall of trees and vines.
The grassy knoll to the south comes to a halt before this wall of large, thick-trunked tropical trees standing erect to the north of you. Their leafy boughs obscure all view of the sky in that direction, only allowing a small bit of radiant sunlight to permeate their covering. Thorny vines twist themselves around the trees, together creating a thick blockade preventing access to the north. Colorful bugs scurry busily around the vines and trees occasionally, chittering softly and adding more color to an otherwise completely green-and-brown landscape. The only view of the jungle past the wall of flora is directly against the ground, as there is no undergrowth due to the thickness of the canopy.

An opening into the jungle.
There is an opening to the north into the jungle itself through the wall of jungle trees and vines here into the jungle itself. The opening is where a tree obviously once stood, but has since been dragged down to the ground by the thick vines. The tree trunk is still there, having fallen into the inside of the jungle to the north rather than into the grassy knoll to the south. It makes a sad and pitiful sight with its branches and leaves gone, its bark peeling limply off, and its core rotting away. Insects of all kinds teem all over it, eating away at the wood.

The base of an ancient mountain.
Time has clearly taken its toll on this large, ancient, granite-composed mountain. It is completely devoid of any sign of jagged edges, and all its sides are smooth and worn-down. While the mountain is not incredibly steep, it is too steep to walk directly up, and erosion has worn away most possible handholds or footholds that could be used to climb it. Around the base of the mountain, a thin but obviously hardy type of moss grips its rocky face, but there is no sign of any flora above it. The featureless mountain stretches high into the sky, and its peak is just barely visible to the eye.

Upon a wooden bridge.
This wooden bridge crosses over a small river; not so large a river as to require more than a few sets of stilts to keep up the bridge, but not so small as for any of the mortal races to be able to step over it. The bridge itself is fairly simple, with no handrails or ropes on the sides. It is comprised of thick wooden planks nailed to beams underneath. The wood looks old, several of the planks are fractured in places, and the metal pieces holding the bridge together appear fairly rusty. A dirt road stretches out from both the east and west ends of the bridge.

Within a lavish ballroom.
This enormous ballroom is extremely posh and is obviously the property of someone extremely wealthy. The large floor is made entirely of solid white marble. Plush, cushioned chairs are scattered along the walls, and on one wall, a large, elegant window reveals a view of a beautiful garden. A double doorway with extravagantly complicated designs and incredible craftsmanship rises up to the west. On the northern wall, two beautiful velvet-carpeted stairways ascend from the floor to the left and right sides of a platform.

Upon a rocky coastline.
Sharp rocks protrude up from the ground here, their jagged edges glistening wet from water. The ground around the rocks is sandy, and many small, sharp-looking pebbles that have chipped off of the larger rocks sit within the sand. There are also some sticks, shells, wood, and other bits of flotsam that have floated ashore. Waves from the nearby ocean constantly crash noisily against the rocks, soaking them in torrents of water and white foam. The sea air smells very salty, especially when larger waves come near. In the distance, the sound of gulls cawing can be heard.

Before the mouth of a cave.
The sandy desert comes to an abrupt halt here before an enormous, rugged cliff that stretches high up into the sky. A dark cave opens in the cliff like a hole on its face. An errant bit of sand from the desert is strewn about the entrance to the cave, as if blown there by a wind. Past the sand, however, the cave appears to be rock as far as the eye can penetrate into its inky blackness. Around the top of the cave's entrance, some harmless green moss is growing.

Within a cavernous temple.
Pure, polished sandstone forms the walls of this enormous and magnificent temple. Sandstone pillars rise up from the ground to support an amazingly high ceiling, which is elevated to at least the combined height of three igashos. Carved upon the walls are strange pictures of various animals, including snakes, birds, and turtles. Most of the pictures seem to involve the animals attacking each other or strange, twisted-looking monsters, but there are no recognizable letters that might explain their meanings. Featured prominently in the center of the temple is an altar made of a hard white stone that is shaped like a sphere with a long board on top and is cold to the touch.

Before a beautiful forest pool.
A cluster of weeping willow trees are in a circle here, their drooping branches brushing gently against the ground. Within the center of the circle is a small clearing, nearly all of which is occupied by a glistening, pure pool. Its waters are remarkably free of all mud, sand, and other substances that would dilute its purity. The branches of the nearby willow trees are reflected beautifully in the pool's surface. It is impossible to discern the pool's depth due to its great reflectivity, adding to its beauty.

Atop a dune of white sand.
This dune rises higher than most of those around it, and is also considerably larger than most of them. It glitters with shimmering crystals and rocks, and the hot sand that it is made up of is much lighter than the sand around the dune. At the top of the dune, the sand is nearly completely white. On its side, the ribcage of some animal juts partially out from the sand, its flesh long since decayed. The bare white bone gives off a dull reflection of all light.

I'm just a small amateur, but... smile.gif

A small café on Lucience boulevard.
The therapeutic aroma of mint and tea lingers in the air, mixed with hazy smoke drifting from cigars and pipes. A young lucidian waiter walks from table to table, serving drinks and attending the customers. The floor shines with a dim radiance from highly polished glass, while the chairs and tables gleam with their own translucent luminosity. Crystal shards embedded in the walls light the room with an array of white, blue and violet, while in the background a violin quietly sings out a soft, peaceful melody. A pair of sliding glass doors leads out to a small patio.

An airy patio overlooking the mountains
Cool, gentle winds caress your cheek in this quiet patio high above the ground, away from the bustle of the city. A magnificent view of the mountains can be seen to the east, while below stretches a wide green valley. Billowing clouds lazily drift by in the nearby sky, while the sea beyond the basin expands far into the horizon. Chirping birds skip around the ground in search of crumbs and food, and the occasional flutter of wings passes overhead. A pair of sliding glass doors lead back into the small café.

Above rooms are a part of Hallifax, in my mind anyway.

This one is a bathroom in a haunted house in a deserted carnival.

A murky bathroom in the crumbling house
Thick, humid fog envelops this damp room, holding a strong nauseous stench. A dirty bathtub sits in the corner, surrounded by torn curtains clinging to a toppling bar. Faint red water sloshes sluggishly in the tub, and the blurred outline of something, or someone, can be seen within. A shattered mirror hangs on the stained walls over a rusty sink, dark crimson clinging on its edges. The mirror juts out slightly, hinting at a medicine cabinet beneath. Dirty red handprints smatter the once white floor, while a boarded window blocks nearly all view of the rest of the carnival.

Hmm and these last two are a part of an underwater palace.

An underwater garden before a coral palace
Rays of sunlight play upon the sand, bending and twisting with the motion of the water. Schools of fish dart through swaying reeds and anemones, while crab and other watery sea dwellers skirt by on the ground. A wavering, colourful garden sits before a tall coral palace, contrasting its smooth blue structure with bursts of red and swirls of yellow. Exotic plants and trees line a stony pathway leading to the palace, its form reflecting the light with a glowing brilliance.

Grand hallway of the coral palace
Translucent mirrors of mysterious origins rest on the walls of this majestic hallway, allowing beams of sunlight to pour through. The substance of the mirror makes the light brighter and more vivid than it really is in this underwater environment. A luscious carpet woven from violet reeds and kelp stretches the length of the hall, though most of the residents glide by gracefully in the water rather than walk. As the hallway progresses towards the throne room, portraits of past kings and queens hang on the walls in a descending order of oldest to youngest. They are all regal-looking merians, clad in their royal robes and crowns. A pair of massive doors inlaid with sapphire gems marks the entrance to the throne room at the end of the hall.
Unknown2005-01-04 22:42:47
I didn't submit an application (time constraints), but I like to think up rooms anyway.

a balcony on the summit of the temple
Facing out to the southeast, you can see the rest of the jungle city in all its splendor. Past the gate is the mass of green that is the jungle, which looks just as imposing from the top of the city. Far to the east, you can see the shoreline, a long, white strip. Beyond that is the vast, blue ocean. Behind the balcony is a tall, stone-lined door leading to the interior of the temple.

the gates of a jungle city
A path stops here, before a large, wooden gate set in a tall, stone wall. At first glance, the gate appears flimsy, as it seems to be constructed of bamboo and wood from other native trees; however, it is undoubtably reinforced with metal from the other side, as you can see the black spikes jutting out from the top. These same black, metal spikes line the top of the stone walls, which extend both westwards and eastwards through the jungle. You can make out the peak of a vast, stone structure over the top of the stone walls and small, rising plumes of smoke behind those.

a beaten path through the jungle
Someone has hacked a path through the undergrowth, as evidenced by the fronds and branches scattered on the ground. The dirt on the path is slightly lighter and smoother than that of the surrounding jungle, no doubt as a result of constant usage. Although a path has been cleared through the jungle floor, the trees still loom over you, blocking out the sky.

the middle of the jungle
The jungle has become a confusing maze of plants that seem to reach out and ensnare you. The air is hot and humid here, and heat seems to radiate from every plant and animal around you, even though the sky is barely visible through the treetops. Every so often, a low-hanging vine catches on a limb. The sounds of the jungle fauna seem like background sound now.

a less dense section of the jungle
The jungle is still thin, but any signs of the beach are long gone. The canopy has not become too thick yet, and you can see the sky up above. Looking further into the jungle, it looks like an impenetrable wall of flora. You can hear the cries of various animals resonating back through the deep of the jungle.

the beginnings of a jungle
Where the beach ends here, the jungle begins, its expansive canopy towering overhead. The white sands of the beach gradually become the dark soil of the jungle floor, while the rocks and pebbles strewn about the beach are replaced with the ferns and shrubs of the jungle.

a white sand beach nearing a jungle
The sand here is almost pure white, stretching from west to east, with the exception of some black rocks and palm trees. Off in the distance, you can just make out the shoreline, as well as a few boats. Directly opposite, you can see the jungle treetops, peeking over the horizon.

a white sand beach
The beach here is a long strip of white sand with the occasional rock scattered about. Several palm trees dot the beach, but appear to be rather sparse. The ocean waves lap at the shore up ahead, receding into the vast expanse of blue to the horizon. The air is cool and carries the salty sea spray.

a rocky shoreline
Unlike the white sand beaches on the east side of the island, the shore here is made of rocky, black cliffs. The ocean is less gentle in these parts, as it swells and falls, breaking on the rocks, occasionally spraying up over the top. Palm trees line the top of the cliffs, several paces back from the edge. The ocean surface looks close enough to jump down relatively safely.

a break in the shoreline
The rocky shoreline breaks to form a small cove. A relatively wide strip of sand forms the shore, which must have been formed by the erosion of the rocks. The water is green by the shore, probably due to the shallow floor, but gradually turns blue a bit farther out. This spot appears to have been used as a landing in the past, judging by old, wooden planks left here. A rickety pier stretches out into the blue.

a lush hillside overlooking the ocean
The dirt path has been worn away by the plant life here, receding into nothing more than a slightly less dense section of jungle, which lines the slopes extending above, below, behind, and before you. A single, exceptionally tall tree juts out of the forest below, as if reaching out to the sky. Just over a ledge on the steep hillside, you can see the blue ocean, expanding outwards to the horizon. A small, rocky bay sits at the foot of the cliff.

a bay at the foot of a cliff
A narrow beach has formed at the foot of the cliff, forming a small bay. The surf is not as steady as it is on the beaches to the east - the waters are choppy and crash upon the rocks on the western end of the beach, sending up a spray of cool ocean water. Judging by the rotting skeletons of ships long past, this bay would be a poor choice to land a ship in, though it looks small enough to secure a small raft.

Oh, and I know there's a difference between a rain forest (what this might resemble more closely) and a jungle (the undergrowth, mainly). I just felt that a jungle is what most people might know it as.

I really like all the ones posted here. I'm too ashamed to post mine. They aren't my best work ever.

I'm positive they'll be better than mine, and I posted my excuse for an effort, so you may as well. Don't worry!

any word on when they will announce winners?
Nika2005-01-05 02:13:51
Uhh, they probably won't, seeing as we're not meant to know who the builders are, (so we don't bug them for inside information or things like that). You'll just get told if you are, and then we're done with it.

well, I was too lazy to submit a whole 10... hell, I didnt even submit any, but, heres my shot at it!

The Fulcrux of Dan.
A great door of cackling white light is here, although what is on the other side is indeterminable. There is a great wooden carving here, jutting out from the wall. It appears to be a carving of a man sitting on the end of a tree branch, deep in thought, as the vines precariously work their way up the branch. Directly across the room is another carving protruding from the wall. It appears to be a beautiful Aslaran girl, a small bird stands in her hand, as her other strokes it gently. There is a book here, it is titled "Book of the Wise".
You see exits leading.

wheee! I bet half of you dont know who the girls is! Muahahahaha!

Right, but can we at least know WHEN they've been selected? I don't know how many positions there are, so I figure I have a chance even if everyone posting here is better than me, and the suspense is killing me. >_<

I've a feeling they might keep the applications around for a while, perhaps they only need one or two builders now, but in a month or so that might change - easier to review the old applications and see who's still interested than to ask for an entirely new set.
