It damages plant growth, where it doesn't grow but dies. And I hate Geomancers (Ravin and Revan mostly) who demesne the Northern/Southern gates and villages, and doesn't dissolve it so I can't freaking defend the places without spending 400 power to clear it.

I think we fined Hartsone who did that during the war. Or some punishment, unless I'm remembering it really badly.

I believe Demesne is breakable at "corners"
For example:
---- U ----U---- U
---- R---- R ---- R
R < ----------------> R
---- R---- R ---- R
B --U---- U---- U---B
B = Breakable
U = Unbreakable
R = Room
Ignore the lines, the forum sucks with my ascii drawings.
at least to my experience.
My biggest pet peeve is people who meld on already Tainted Grounds like Glomdoring or Magnagora. We can't see it so it's practically impossible to break with people who has too much power on their hands and Demesne so big to compromise.

Um...that's...more or less the point. (What would be nice to equalise is if Celest got puddly though. But that would be weird.)

Meh. Demesnes should slowly fade over time depending on size. No one should be able to keep such a large demesne (400 rooms or so) without it occasionally fading somewhere along the line.
Unless demesning half the world is fine with most of you.

Agreed. Something needs to be done about that. It's conceivable that the magics required to keep a demesne melded would fade over time unless the magi did something to reinforce his/her power over the area.
Unknown2005-01-25 20:35:47
I agree, too. Demesnes should not last as long as they do, or else they should not be able to meld so many hundreds of rooms.
Vesar2005-01-25 20:37:36
I actually don't mind the melding of lots of rooms. If you have the power and the patience to do it, I say go for it.
Unknown2005-01-25 21:04:20
I don't mind melding tons of rooms, because it's VERY feasible. I just don't like the fact that they're lasting for years upon years. The current tainted demesne can only be broken by spending hundreds of power (And don't tell me that it's easier than that. You can break a few rooms, but it doesn't loosen up easily, especially in the desert) and well.. meh.

Yeah Yrael didnt have the whole village melded, the wheat fields in fact...so i started there and worked my way out to meld the whole village all the way to the road

How about something like a coven for demesne in which members would be able to share the same demesne.
Instead of having n members with the ability to meld n * 400 rooms.. it would be n members sharing 400 rooms, but it would be more flexible.
Strategically it could be fun, since if a member meld the maximum amount of rooms, then all the others would be unable to expand.
There would be highly sought after co_mesne with a neighbourhood of good reputation and good location and not too much to pay for a rent -grin-
Of course, demense would still be hard to break but only enemies would have a reason to try that.
That would give an incentive for the Prime Plane to be all demesned up, and finally give serenwilde a reason to dislike the cities.

That really makes no sense, Freya.
Unknown2005-01-26 10:33:04
too bad
Shiri2005-01-26 17:32:48
...rather than just saying too bad, recompose and repeat the message in a form that can be understood as it was intended? It'd help unless that isn't a serious suggestion.
Unknown2005-01-26 19:03:17
Uhm.. that wouldn't work anyway.
Coven ----> Moon

I was only suggesting the ability for several allies to share one big semi-permanent demesne.
Sylphas2005-01-26 23:23:16
That'd be great. You'd then always have someone on, in control of that giant demesne. At least now you can wait for someone to log off, then start in on their demesne before they know what's happening.
Silvanus2005-01-26 23:30:07
DEMESNES. D - E - M - E - S - N - E - S. DEMESNES. Notice at the top of your browser's window, it says DEMESNES.
Shiri2005-01-26 23:33:24
I sort of prefer Rhysus' idea for that, mind.
celahir2005-01-27 11:59:23
I think demenses should be a bit like a garden say. You have to water it etc to help it grow and the bigger it gets the harder it is to maintain. Also the longer its there the more powerful it is so geomancers etc couldnt just stick up a quick demense for an easy solution it should take a while to get it to its maximum capability. Anyway what do you think?
Flow2005-01-27 13:08:00
I think the difficulty of breaking them should be reduced. The power is fine.
