You know I can't resist it, you evil manipulator of minds.
Daganev2005-01-10 03:50:34
Menzobaranzan was where Drizzt was from right?

Thinking about that, I don't think that would be a good idea, because you need the cities to be unified. We allready saw what happens when there is too much infighting, but just snide remarks to eachother would be oh so fun.

I'm a Tae'dae Charachter, and if you read my background you will see that I'm not really in a position to aide to the population of a great house, but I would be exstatic if I was able to RP my servitude to House i'Xiia Better. (I had such great luck that i'Xiia, just happens to have the medical tower... Honestly, I didn't notice that till yesterday when I decided to write up my history)

I don't like that I haven't the time to actively go out and get someone else to be an n'Lochli so I can go make a bloodline. Some Magnagoran Viscanti, who isn't a newbie, should volunteer so I can spend my gold.
Daganev2005-01-10 06:23:07
Thats a good idea, maybe we can make a thread on the ideas forum for each of the families that has people who are interested in it.
Aris2005-01-10 06:27:03
I'm not too sure where the Carthan family's going, and Aris has no clue IC where it came from, due to the fact he's an amnesiac and bloodbonded with Richter because they bonded so quickly. However, I do know this Carthan/Gladheon feud would be a lot more fun if Nikua wasn't a creepy-crawly.

Unknown2005-01-10 06:40:47
I'm sure that comment about the gold and clan and family name out of no where included the Gladheon family, so I'm going to reply a bit in that.

They do have a history and there is a reason for all those children, which will become more apparent. Of all of the people in the family, I only know Nikua IRL, and Gwynn, Amali and Lazareth from other places. Others were met in game, and made it seem like a real family. You have Kayde and Sayde (now gone), who were your normal preppy girls, Gwynn, who was the Lusty version of the all-American son, Marpessa and Dan, the excentric(sp?) kids that cause a bit of trouble with outsiders, Amali, the innocent one. Lazareth, who wants to make his momma proud.

Like I said, we do have a history, it just isn't good RP to make it known, as Alyvia doesn't even know of it yet, her memory is blank, still, and wont start to spark until she finds Nikua's mom's diary. *shrug*

As for Great Houses, it will take a long time to make one, but hey, it takes decades, even centuries to make an influencial family, irl. Why wouldn't it be the same in game?

Can't wait for Nikua to get un-gooey, this blood fued seems interesting.
Daganev2005-01-10 06:51:09
Alyvia I think you misunderstand me,

I think the houses like Carthan and Gladheon and Feyranti (sp?) are great, and can't wait to see them expand.

I just find it sad(as in dissapointment, not as in suckiness) that the players who start these families never take on a historical name and try to RP that.

Rest assured though, if I ever stumble across hundreds of dollars right before a credit sale, I'll be putting my money where my mouth is.
Unknown2005-01-10 07:48:09
I'm just really scared to take on a historical name. If I screw up on an unknown name, people don't care as much as if I messed a historical name up. Not to mention, you have people fighting for historical names, sometimes.

I'd love it if the Gods allowed there to be some way to earn it and anyone else who used the name to not be able to found a family with it. I heard that's how the Faris family got their name, Maelin won it in some contest.

Not exactly what I'd like to have here, maybe the Gods would read the history liking the origional historical person to the modern family and see if they RP it, then allow them to create the name.
Daganev2005-01-10 07:52:08
Why not group together with all the people who want to start the same family and work with an admin with the kinks in the history?

Ofcourse, I would only suggest working with people who have the IC gold to start clans as well, because otherwise there is no true conflict.

Yes in Imperian there was a "write a history and win" contest, but it didn't work out to well because the same people who where good and imaginative writers where not necessarily the same people who became well known players or city leaders.

So imperian right now you have tons of Famous historical families with only 1 or 2 members.

Fear I guess is a great hindarnce, makes sense... overcome your fear of RP like you overcome your fear of Combat!

I've been playing for two years, and still haven't overcome my fear of combat. I do love RP, though.

I did?

And here I thought Bau was quite active...
Bau2005-01-10 08:00:33
On that note, I did go (mostly) inactive for a few weeks due to the fact that I was moving states and did not have a computer for quite some time. I did manage to log on every few days, and if you'd not noticed, I'm still fairly prominent.

Spelling is "Feyranti" once more.

Just a bit of information, Daganev. I was working on writing a history to found the n'Rotri family bloodline. However, before I finished writing it, my family started pushing me to just found Feyranti. That is why the n'Rotri's are not back yet.
Melanchthon2005-01-10 20:10:21
Lusternia has comparatively many historical families that exist as NPC's in-game, yet are never mentioned in the histories. While a bit of exploration shows that many of these families have great frameworks for role-play based on their views and interractions, it can't be ignored that you do actually have to discover these thing's with your character.

Families that are actually mentioned in the histories are more attractive in this respect, since they are universally known by any who have read the histories, and subsequently have more material to work with in general and grant a bit more prestige with the layman.

I think this is due in part to the focus of our histories compared to some other realms. If you look, our histories tell a great tale, and show how the cities and communes played a part in that. Contrast that to Imperian, where the histories focused on the cities themselves, and showed how the realm developed as a consequence of their interactions. That approach creates far more names recorded in the histories, and fewer in the form of NPC's.

Ideally, unless there are plans for creating and releasing them already, I think the Divine should hold a contest for writing the histories of the individual cities and communes, to help further their role-play. It can certainly be done as a cultural project by each city on their own, but I've seen similar things fail simply because of the amount of work involved. I think the incentive and honor of having ones work published on the website would counter that...perhaps a credit prize, artifact, or honors line such as 'She is an official historian of Lusternia.', like was done with the cartography contest.

I can see a small argument that such a player-created history may restrict role-play already in progress within the realm, but I think the fact that they are histories alone implies that current states may deviate from them, though I would hope the histories would strengthen rather than contradict the directions most of us have already taken. Anyway, just a thought off the top of my head.

Comments, opinions?
Melanchthon2005-01-10 20:12:09
Woo! The infamous double post!
Daganev2005-01-10 21:23:23
Any Chance you can change your name brona? *grin*

and I would agree with Melanchthon, it would be nice to have those histories written out, so that when people become powerfull enough and have a large enough group they can focus around that RP.
