I dabble in writing fiction, as a hobby.

Going to be co-Head editor of the school writing magazine this year. Shall be both fun and stressful.

Mm, lack of personal pronouns.

EDIT: Co-editor, not vice-editor.

I write some. Going to be doing screen writing as part of my Major next year, too. I'm thinking of turning my website into a sort of FF.net.. or an Elfwood, for Lusternia.. and maybe Achaea..

I'm just trying to run some ideas past some bod(y/ies).

I've got my basic plot outlined (know the beginning and end, some of the key scenes in between). Main character, main companion, mentor figure, five of his enemies over the course of a novel-length story.

Think... oh... Drizzt meets Elric as the main character? (not really, at all, but it's just to give you a basic idea).

However, the big key I'm fooling around with is my narrator's voice. Most contemporary fantasy is told from a third person omniscient narrator. He sees all, knows all, knows everything every character is thinking, and conveys that.

What I'm playing around with is a third person limited omniscience. He tells the story, and maybe reveals what the main character is thinking/feeling, but NOBODY ELSE. He only knows the name of someone when the main character finds out who they are. He only knows what type of creature something is when the main character finds out what it is; etc.

Sound good?

Now, I'm picking a key scene about 33-50% through the story, and writing a 10000-15000 short story around it (which, if it is good enough, would be used in the novel; if it's awful, I'll rethink my attempt to write a novel at all).

It sounds good. I'm sure I've read one or two novels (not many, don't worry it's still pretty original) that use this same concept and, from memory, I think I really enjoyed them.

What I enjoy more though is when the narration seems to switch 'styles', if you will, when the story starts to follow a different character. Robert Jordan does this in the Wheel of Time and I think it's one of the reasons I'm able to read hundreds of pages about Elayne doing basically nothing to try regain her crown, and still enjoy it.

I'm a writer. And the way my history and such will be written is from every position. biggrin.gif I didn't mean to copy the histories, but it will be something like that. I'll have it from first person, third person, logs, etc.

Weee... ok, I don't mean to get too hung up on word counts, but tonight/this morning was my fourth day of real writing (as opposed to talking about writing or thinking about writing). In four days, I almost have 4000 words done (2000 tonight). Writing a novel (yeah, I know you're thinking, 'yeah, right', but hear me out) and two short stories at the moment (one for Lusternia contest).

I fully intend to maintain a 5000-7000 word minimum a week pace. The rule: No less than 1000 words a day, 5 days a week. The other two days are optional. Two short stories, 3000-7500 words each, done every two months (that's started, edited, rewritten, edited again, rewritten), and a novel (rough draft) done in 6 months (no idea how long that boy will be to revise, but I just want to get it done at this point. I have... ::counts:: six scenes written, for almost 3000 words. Heh. Shooting for the 100,000 range wink.gif Weee.

Yeah, I'm wired. Four cups of tea today, three in the last few hours. Going to sleep is going to be super-fun.

Edit: I write at night, edit during day when off, so editing will in no way take away from my writing time. Also, Lusternia stories are Lusternia only, and other stories, I'll try to get published in magazines, and the like. Wee.

Good luck to me. Oh, and I joined Elfwood, and will put up some random bits on there.
