They aren't crazy enough from my experience. Even when Karrah was Guild Administraitor, he was logical. The Mountains of Madness (which most Geomancers like) pissed Karrah off enourmously.

Heh, I'll agree with that some are too logical or sensible.. But from what i am noticing now is there are a few that are a bit loopy and then you have those that just want to kill kill kill.. I don't know which one is worse Mountains of Madness ARG!!

Granted that it is not enforced that you follow what the history lays out for your guild, my comment here has no actual authority or mandate. It's just a personal opinion. Based on the history, I would expect Geomancers not to be loopy, but rather psychotic. The taint that affects the sadistic Nihilists (just read the AB list for Nihilism to understand why they are sadistic) is the same taint that affects them, their plane, and their magics. Between Nihilists and Geomancers, I get an imagery for Nihilsts of being death-oriented (like psychotic serial killers such as was portrayed in the movie "Seven") while Geomancers are more general destruction-oriented (like barren wastelands and deserts that destroyed everything, not just life). If any mage guild was loopy, I would expect it to be the Pyromancers. Even though they portrayed a capacity to be very serious when necessairy, the ones in the history are also quite silly when there is no need to be serious. Not that either are logical and sensible. One is loopy. The other is just psychotic.

And that is why Roark is awesome.

For those who read 8-bit theatre/theater (I know you're out there, judging by some people's avatars): Geomancers = BM. Black Mage isn't loopy, he's a destroyer. Simple.

I cant wait until the Wyvern Riders are completed. Its gonna be a blast. When you have the General of the Guild shouting "Keep your snouts clean! " "Oh frag it!" and the like, accompanied by a sort of tenuous attitude of "Well, we are here now...only two things that can be done. Party hearty, or lay waste to everything in a 20 mile radius..." It makes me wait with baited breath for the release. If the RP in the Wyvern Riders doesnt suit me, maybe Ill go back to a more Magey profession. What else can be expected from a Tliwx, other than the intense desire to burn something?

The concept existing between insanity and RPing it, has, is, and always will be difficult to interpret correctly. From my RPing experience, people who try to RP insane characters rarely ever pull it off effectively. Most use it simply as an excuse to be able to do stupid or childish stuff. It's something that will rarely ever be changed, no matter how hard you try.

Example: Why do you think that IRE labeled talking OOC as insanity? Because for the most part, people use insanity as an excuse for bad roleplaying.

Having said that, I'll likely be criticised for such views, but ah well. I'm not saying most people who play an insane character suck at roleplaying. It's just that most people who suck at roleplaying say they're playing an insane character.

Hmm, ok, all of you who saw the little fae girl at her worst, when she was biting herself to taste blood and eating the head off a beetle, I could see a Geo like that.

Now that was a fun event. A little imp girl and Alyvia. Fun stuff, imp girl tries to eat a pooka, Alyvia gives her a mom look, imp girl glares at Alyvia and behaves.

If someone did some of the things to me irl that they've done to me there... there would be problems.

But, if I punch someone for licking me, in game everyone freaks out, and I get a hunting party after me for "performing an agressive action" or some crap.

As I've stated before, maturity is something we need. Bad RP should not be passed off as so-and-so's character is just crazy.

Yeah, like the novice that kept talking about portugal and counterstrike. I killed one of my novices as a secretary, and actually got away with it, because at that point, the stupidity just wears on people.

Indeed insanity is hard to RP. I suspect it's because people don't know what it means to be insane. An insane person thinks he's rational and that everyone else is crazy or just misunderstands him. A perfect example is Hannibal Lector from the movie and book series "Silence of the Lambs". He was quite level headed in his thinking and behaviours. Another great example is Edgar Allen Poe's "The Telltale Heart". The character in that very short story/poem is quite rational from his internal perspective. When you step outside his mind you realize that he has no reason to hate the eye. But going on that assumption that the eye truly is out to get him, everything he does is quite rational. I love how he points out the care and excessive attention to detail that he takes as "proof" he is not insane, yet it just shows is is indeed even more insane. Unfortunately, most people's exposure to insanity is from cartoons with some guy bouncing off the walls speaking gibberish and doing silly cartoonish things.
