The event with the tainted fae made me look at how enemy status is set up and how it could be tweaked to make it not so much of a pain.
My first suggestion would be when a player engages a mob that is loyal to a particular faction in a solo fight where no other member of that faction is present in the room to "witness" the fight and the player wins, no enemy status should be bestowed upon the individual. How can you be enemied if nobody saw you kill the faction member? *looks around and stashes the body in a barrel* Exceptions would be the villages as it would open it up for too much abuse and slaughtering of the population and not to mention the villages yell out when attacked so you could argue people in the villages were alerted to the attack.
The admis by making the tainted fae loyal to Nil made 90% of the non-magnagoran population enemied as you had to know people were going to whack the little blighters where ever they popped up. Most people dont travel to Nil and its by no means a hassle being enemied to Nil but for special global events on that scale enemy status should be tweaked so the event mobs arent aligned with a particular faction.
Id suggest a class of sub-factions be created for each event....Tainted-Fae Faction for example...so that when the event is over players can go to a room and touch an event statue of some kind and get that particular sub-factions enemy status removed without the normal hassle of paying the enemy status removal tax which is quite hefty.
What if the fae had been loyal to Magnagora?, it would have been a headache for Magnagora to unenemy people or more likely they would have charged people to remove the status or just left it and used it as a license to go on a killing spree, your an enemy after all and thats reason enough to kill you.....bleh. For those of us who arent total PvP junkies and think carefully about what we attack and what enemies we make making participation in the event an automatic enemy offense is a bit harsh and will make me think next time about what events I get involved with as the event may only last a couple real life days but the fines and hassle of removing enemy status could take years IC game time to resolve.
