Yes. I love it.

A couple more possible ideas.

-The tae'dae daycare would take on children that their parents didn't take care of, or if their parents went inactive, or whatever.

-No, I have no idea what the echo would be from the MAKE BABY WITH .

-No, I did not intend for the description of this thread to sound nasty. Put something here does NOT mean what some people apparently think it does.

-Reptilian races would have live birth, I guess. Otherwise, I would have them lay an egg after a certain amount of time, and have to protect it. If this were so, they would be immune to the attacky=miscarriage thing. Also, people would be able to SMASH .

-The reason I didn't want to have people have more than five children is because someone, the moment they turn twenty-five and finds a willing mate, could have a great house in two seconds.

I scanned over the first post, but stopped when I saw the words 'fertilization'. I'm pondering whether to read any of this or not. Hmm.

It's not all that risque. What'd you want me to call it?

Look at it this way. Say the average pregnancy is 9-12 months, depending on race, maybe even longer. After that, you can't get pregnant for 6-12 months. At that rate, it'd still take a really long time to make a great house happy.gif

Hmmm, I really don't think that the benefits of doing this in code, compared to just doing it in roleplay, are anywhere near the coder time it'd take, and the other stuff that that coder time would have otherwise been spent on.

I know that this topic was discussed at length on the MSN group pre-closed beta, but I thought I would revisit it with a couple of my own ideas.

And so, without further ramblings, my thoughts on pregnancy and child birth! Hooray!
Fertilization

In order for a mother to become fertilized, there are several requirements that must be met:

- They must be at least age of twenty-five, or risk outcast from society (meaning you can’t have a kid unless you’re twenty-five)
- They must not have given birth any time in the last year, and they may not have given birth more than five times throughout their lifetime.
- They must be at full health, mana, power, and endurance.

In order for a mother to increase her chances of becoming fertilized, there are several things she may do:

- Be inside a room.
- Walk with a divine favour of any rank
- Be within the prime of her youth (25-35)
- Have a mate that is in the prime of his youth (25-35)

However, there are some things that may decrease the chance of a mother becoming fertilized:

- Walking with a divine disfavour of any rank.
- Being out of one’s youth (above sixty, for both males and females)
- Being in an outdoor location.

In order for a male to fertilize a female, the male must (haha, it took me while to think of a syntax, so I just listed three. Don’t laugh at me! Hmph).

FERTILIZE
MAKE BABY WITH

There is a certain percent chance that the female will become fertilized, using the above criteria.

Pregnancy

If a female does become fertilized, her honors line changes to ‘Female Pregnant ’ Several game mechanics would change during this period.
- The female would get hungry twice as quickly, as well as have to eat twice as much food to satiate her hunger. She may also develop cravings for existing recipes. Satisfying these cravings will satiate hunger for a longer period of time.
- The female gets tired twice as quickly, and has to sleep slightly longer than normal.
- In the later months of pregnancy, the female would receive messages pertaining to the baby moving around in her womb.
- Taking part in combat (including hunting) would increase the chance of a miscarriage.

Giving Birth

After a certain amount of time (determined by race), the impregnated female gives birth to her child. For the more reptilian races, see below. The amount of time it takes for a child to emerge from the womb is randomized, however, if the baby takes longer than one hour IRL, one day IG, then the mother would begin losing a very low amount of health. If the mother were to die, then the baby would die as well.

There is a five percent less chance of a miscarriage if you are in the presence of a midwife of the same race as the female. There would be an individual mob for each race. Yes, these mobs would be very hard to kill, but it would be possible.

The Baby

If a mother successfully gives birth, then she attains control of the mob ‘a baby wrapped in . She may take control of this mob and emote through it. Though the mother may emote fluently, when she attempts to speak, it will come out something like…

“I want a soother!”
“Grah mooli affgggg oober!”

And so on. The baby would have a very low HP. For the first it would need to be breastfed. After that, a mother could make ‘mush’ by MUSHING . This would create: ‘a mushy pile of food resembling a raspberry cheesecake.’ The baby would be able to eat this mush. Only a mother could make mush.

The older the baby gets, and the more speech that is spoken to it, the faster it will learn to speak coherently.

As the baby grows, it’s description would change accordingly.
More ideas about what to do after this would be very very welcome.
Thinking back, this'd be a hell of a lot to code...

Oh my god. I thought this game was supposed to be fun! Don't bring pregnancy into it! happy.gif

I came from a mud where this sort of thing happened. It was -not- fun. Especially since one player stole all the babies and fed them to his god, who ate them. It was horrible.

I thought the whole Portal of Fate idea left it that any pregnancy would not directly lead to a person who would know their family. And that is why you are given time and able to "remember" your children.

Hahaha. Oh my god, fed babies to his god. Awesome.

Any way, I agree... with someone. Do it in role, don't do it via code. Too much work for not enough people. Not that you don't matter, but... y'know.

Ah well there wasn't supposed to be two, leave me alone
Nyla2005-01-16 21:49:12
Yeah I came from a game where it was possible to get pregnant and someones children were murdered and offered. My Patron showed them to me. It was a sad sad sight.

But if you made pregnancy rare, then when the child grew up they could be made into new NPC characters when other cities and villages came about. They even could replace old guild tutors. Just think you could give birth to the guild tutor of the Pyromancers

Well it is called LUSTerina

and they do have that orgasm emote...

In First Age babies were gifts from the gods and you couldn't have one on your own. Without Godly interference. I like like that idea if it were to come to play.

Please don't do this. I want to have a family and a great house and be able to say they're my kids, not just adopeted in various ways. I -don't- want to experience a bunch of angsty 'Oh my god, I'm having a baby, my life is ruined' roleplay, or have to fake care for a fake baby for 16 years in game or anything like that. If someone wants to do it, be my guest. Fake it, emote things. Don't hard code it so those of us who are playing to enjoy ourselves have to suffer through the experience, -please-.

The memory loss portal of fate thing allows having kids without doing the whole ridiculously long 16 year pregnancy/raising a child thing to generally be a viable possibility. This is good. I enjoy roleplay, but honestly, there's a reason I'm playing computer games, and it's not to spend the better portion of a real life year pretending to raise an imaginary kid. There are restrictions so some idiot can't adopt anything that moves. This is also very, very good. But the best thing about it all is that I, for the most part, don't have to hear anyone who's decided they want to be angsty and edgy talk about how they accidentally fertilized their lover's womb during unprotected sex.

And that, my friends is the greatest gift of all.

Sorry, but I stopped reading it after the first third, and read almost none of the replies.

I think it's a... not so good idea.

We're going for realism here. My mother is only 18 years older than I am, so why 25? Five kids? I have friends with many more than that in thier families. Probably cause they're mormon though. Why does it have to be indoors? Haven't you ever had s... nevermind on that one. Why Divine favor? The high schoolers around here sure don't need favour to get knocked up, though, that outcast from society thing works in this case, haha.

Just that your system seems to unrealistic for my tastes. But hey, I don't run the game.
