Many people I speak to OOC are quickly getting tired of how Lusternia is retrogressing to the sad state of every other IRE game in the market at the present. People seem to only be able to fall in the category of thinking as they were in Mhaldor, Ashtan, Shallam, etc...
I played Aetolia and Imperian and I was thankful for how different Imperian was when it started. It gradually grew to the point where it was everyone against Stavenn, much like in Achaea and Aetolia, it's everyone against Mhaldor/Bloodloch.
When you look at Lusternia, what do you see?
I see Magnagora as the Empire of Rome, trying to expand and bring new beliefes and culture t othe rest of the world.
I see Celest as Britain duing the Crusades. They wish to spread the light and they will beat it into you if they have to.
Serenwilde, I believe can be seen as the Celts and Druids. Having their faith take part in the world in which they daily live and toil. Their Patrons reflect that image to me and yet I am seeing them getting closer and closer to taking civilization's ways and teachings to their everyday actions.
If this is just me, please let me know so I can just assume I expect too much of people to actually RP.

I think there in lies the problem.....
I don't see Celest as this, or Magnagora as that.
Firstly, I see Magnagora as a collection of three different philosophies and attidutes that work together to enjoy the power and transformation of the Taint. The Nihilists worship Nil and all that it does, and the Geomancers study the affects of Earth and what it can do on Prime, while the Ur'guard are the army of Magnagora serving the needs of the leaders.
I see Serenwilde as a commune of individuals who have a unique tie to nature. You have the serenguard who are there to fight for their spirit they choose, the Moondancers to be the priests of the Moon and the Druids to be the priests of Stag and all they represent. They also should be focusing on thier own world and spirits and not caring much about the cities, save to make sure they don't grow too much and impede on thier lifestyle.
Then For Celest, I'm not quite what to make of it.... They have the history of their empire and their hatred of the Taint, but well I think because not enough people there look inside themselves without trying to change everyone's opinion its just hard to see whats there. Perhaps they are just the exact opposite of Magnagora.
I also think there should be more of a push for a debate/struggle between High Magic concepts, and Low Magic. Its not just City vs Nature... its much deeper than that. Rituals vs not so many rituals, Society vs individualism... lots of stuff to grow from there.
As we saw from the last event, there is some conflict between Cosmic and Ethereal, which can be translated as Low vs High Magic.

I think the biggest problem right now with the RP is that Celest does not have enough of it, and there is too much focus on Magnagora on the OOC forums, making people play as if Magnagora is the only thing in existance.
Shiri2005-01-19 21:41:44
I really don't think high and low magic have ANYTHING to do with it. The warrior archetype gets a choice, which if it were even remotely city related, it most certainly wouldn't.
Daganev2005-01-19 21:49:08
According to the Help scrolls... High Magic is ritualized and Intelectualized, while Low magic is "natural magic" and is more intuitive.
High magic is a Pre requsite for the study of Elemental and Cosmic magics.
Low Magic is a pre requisite for the study of Nature, Herbs and Poisions.
The communes do not have guilds or Nexi that can jump to the Cosmic or Elemental Planes.
The cities do not have guilds or Nexi that can jump directly to the Ethereal plane.
Warrior archytpes have no connection to other planes, save what they learn in planar. They are focused on Prime which happens to be made up of aspects of all the other planes. Thus they are more physical and thier choice in Magic is fairly arbritrary to the person. But the non warrior guilds do not have choice as they have a strong link to the other planes of existance.
I think there is a lot that can be done here, even to the point of less intelectual respect for warrior guilds since they are so spiritually dense in a sense.

Low Magic was used to create the 3 Giant Trees (Ackleberry tree, Moonhart, Ravenwood) which healed the land. High magic was used by the Aquamancers who founded the Water plane and Celestia surronding the Water plane, which begun the beginning of cities.

I'll assume you mean Water. But okay, I must just have misunderstood that, then. Nevermind me!

I do not see that, I see High Magic versus Low Magic being more Scientific versus Spiritualism.
Silvanus2005-01-19 22:11:22
High Magic versus Low Magic is Nature-oriented (Low Magic) - (healing of the Basin was done by Low Magic) cosmic-oriented (High magic, building of the cities and the surronding planes).

I believe Mangagora slacked off during the war with Serenwilde. one of the agreements was to stop using crow and yet crow could help taint Serenwilde.
edit Also, I know why they did it, Moondancers. helped destroy Grogulu who was killing the demon lords of Nil.

Shiro, you have no clue what you are talking about at all.

I know, I wanted Mag to explode and Serenwilde to emerge as the winners!

Mm, I find Brona's description to be quite apt. I, personally, am deeply in love with the Roman Republic and Empire, moreso the latter. England was not so great a forte of mine, I only busied myself with the amusing reign of the Tutor family (Henry VII - Elizabeth I).
But, I find your analysis of the situation to be quite stunning and acurate. So, here here!
As to the subject of the thread, I find (At the very least) New Celest should be as you describe it. The Serenwilde needs to, in my opinion, be more hands-offish with the cities. Celest just needs some decent FIGHTERS.
Some new RP would be nice, though. I imagine it is getting very tiring for things like this last RP, where things ended up in a draw. Magnagora should have crushed the Seren.

High vs Low just seems like too much of a pissing contest, if you get what I mean. Just an excuse for some loose conflict. There are other things that would be much more interesting, in my opinion, like villages revolting and attacking their opressors.
"Muhahaha, get the Serens, Furrikin, they stole our chickens!"
Think of the internal conflict Shiri would suffer...poor little furry thing.

Don't coax him into posting!
Anyway, I see what you mean. While I think that everyone deserves to carve their own roleplay, I think they there should be a push by the organizations/Patrons to urge roleplay toward a certain direction. It feels a little bland, and eventually what will happen is the nicer crowd will retire until things become interesting, and those that have chosen to roleplay won't have much to go along with.
I also think people should learn to roleplay without need of reward. Prime example would be the Hallifax/Gaudiguch power node thingy. A lot of them have decided not to do it since they know it won't be released soon, but technically it can't open unless they continue anyway. Why base OOC knowledge on IC roleplay?

May that Furrikin thing never happen. I'd be so torn!
And KidHendrix, that is probably the best way to get me to post. Not that I need another reason.

I think Fain (not sure on Raezon, he is too secret) and Daevos (Raezon was probably there) have been working on spreading the culture of Magnagora, referring to a post on some channel:
QUOTE
Magnagora is known for its might and powers of killing. Magnagora is not
yet known for its culture. Word has it, that Daevos wants to plan
festivals and events to help with culture.

These votes are very telling.

Everyone apparently has completely different standards of roleplay to every single other person. The lack of more specific accusations (3 out of 24?) leads me to believe that either 7 out of 8 people have an "everyone sucks but me" complex, or an "everyone sucks but my city/commune" complex. Hrm.
