Magnagora has about as many checks and balances as the First Bank of Antartica. (as far as I know there are no banks in Antartica.. incase you don't get the joke)
But I wouldn't put magnagora as Germany. I don't think Germany was ever about change, it was about unification. I would think Magnagora is more like Japan. "Merging the traditions of the past with the technologies of the future." It also might be better compared to the Asyrians. They tended to have the idea that if you mix populations around it helps the empire as a whole.
umm wouldn't Guidachi be Egypt? I mean they have pyramids!

Magnagora as Germany under Bismarck is better for Magnagora, as Germany was going under lots of changes (you know, being united in 1871, and Bismarck being the Chancellor from 1860?-1898), where Germany had lead the world in industrial revolutions, militarily, and behind Britian in Naval revolutions. But, Germany was very politically weak.
Edit: And you know, the hatred for other races begun in Bismarck's time, especially the "weak-minded" Polish and French

Right, going through changes is not the same as "engine of Transformation." To me, the reason why Bismark hated Polish and French was to help give Germany a more united identity. To bring all aspects of Germany together.
But for me, I see Magnagora as being motivated by wanting to bring what Magnagora has (i.e The Taint) to the rest of the world, as a means of transforming people. It always wants others to view the Taint as something they should not run a way from.
So while Germany was trying to pull everyone "in" Magnagora is trying to push itself "out."
I guess if you mixed Bismark Germany and Nazi Germany, but Magnagora is not nearly as restrictive on its Citizens as that combination would imply.
I think the aspect of Japan I'm talking about is the Mejii restoration, around the same time Russia and Japan fought eachother.

Not exactly, that is impossible ot say as Bismarck wanted to unite all Germans and expand its Empire, pushing people out to make more rom for Germans (he didn't go around killing people like Hitler).
Shiri2005-01-21 22:34:01
0_o Are you SURE the Meiji era was when Russia and Japan fought? I thought it was much earlier. Hrm. Will have to check that out.
Silvanus2005-01-21 22:34:43
1905 was after the Mejii restoration.
Daganev2005-01-21 22:39:02
No, I am entirely UNSURE as to what the name of the era was. Most of my knowledge on Japan comes from Movies and a report I did in 4th grade.
But Japan just seemed like the country that was most "Engine of transformation" like.

Are you joking? Japan kept its samurai traditions until the early 1900's. If that isn't stagnation, I don't know what is.
Silvanus2005-01-21 23:20:44
... Ever seen Last Samurai? That was the time when Samurai traditions stopped, which was 1868, I think. But, they were closed off from all relations and industrial things till the middle 1800s, where they went from 1860s towards 1939 and they are a super power in the world. If thats stagnation, then I'd say you are ignorant.

Serenwilde is like russia - but without the communism
Silvanus2005-01-22 01:31:13
Serenwilde, again, is nothing like Russia, since you know, if you spoke out of turn in Russia you'd be executed. And are you talking about USSR or Tsarist Russia? Either/or, it doesn't fit at all. I see Serenwilde as more like Ottoman Empire around World War I, not being able to figure out what they were and what they were for, but they were doing it anyways.
Raguel2005-01-22 22:04:39
ok ok ok - mebbe i'm not obsessed with history but i do know that running your govenment through an elite organisation that blocks anything that isn't sanctioned by it and where members take petty vengance on people using other members to quash any rebellious thoughts is a touch masonic which could land it as the US (specially with this high court judges thing)
(thats serenwilde btw - SEG)

Serenwilde I can see as US before they knew their potential (so, before 1898).

the mesa's a bit like switzerland - bit cut off and rugged with not much going on except a few self obessed researchers lost to the world - and a whore house
just no snow....

I saw Delos from Aetolia/Achaea as Switzerland, with the flow of money going in and out of there but being neutral towards everything. Nothing in Lusternia fits as Switzerland, except maybe Trader Bob, but too many people hate Bob, so it can't be Switzerland. I see the Skarch Desert as South America, no one knows or pays attention to South America aside from a few people, but there is so much conflict and change going on in South America.
Celest is France in 1870, thinking they are macho under Napoleon the III, but they are really under a stagnant leadership and are about to be slaughtered.

Heh, sounds about right

Glomdoring is a bit like the antarctic - lots of expeditions, people trying to do all kinds of research, japanese bashing the occasional wale, no progress is ever actually made and noone actually LIVES there - they're just staying for a wee bit.
Oh yeah and there's a huge mayan temple style thing hidden underneath it with aliens in where predators come to hunt every so often with secret caverns and an evil great big alien ugly thing in the depths (ala aliens vs predator)

I'd say Glomdoring is more like the Rainforest in Congo, home of vile beasts, no one wants to go there, and only the insane want to live there. Also home of all the world's diseases.
Raguel2005-01-22 22:49:14
or like vietnam (or wherever) in predator one - random troops battling it out and raiding as and when and then hambushed again until everyone strips down and rolls in the mud... or not, but you get my drift - lots and lots of fighting with your tropical viruses and the occasional stripped carcass hanging from the tree
