What happened to Balach Swamp?

Back to Common Grounds.

Ever since I really got a closer look at Balach swamp, I knew that something interesting had happened there. The history texts only faintly hint at what could have happened to this once home of the Mugwumps. I've asked around and so far I've pieced together that it had something to do with a failed Imperical project, and a source of power turned the swamp slightly more...unpleasant, sort of paralleling what happened with Project Cosmic Hope but on a smaller scale. Anyway, I wanted to write something about it, but I still don't have a clear idea of really happened. (just need more details)

So what do you think?

edit: Hold on, going to get my history information.

QUOTE
Mother Night, I fear I have failed you in this mission. Will no one listen to your words? Does your wisdom fall upon deaf ears? Despite all our protestations, the Empire pursues their quest for power relentlessly. Even pointing out the Empire’s previous failure of Project Soulforce that drove the mugwump from their ancestral home makes no difference. Our words fall like snowflakes upon the hot skin of a dracnari, melting into nothing and disappearing as so much steam.

Project Soulforce is mentioned multiple times in the histories, but there are never any details. All we can glean is that it involved tapping some sort of planar power, and resulted in a high level of badness.

Bah, Guido got to it first.

I wonder if it was the first attempt of mixing cosmic and ethereal...

No, Ballach swamp most likely had some kind of raw energy that could be used to help speed up the healing

Goodness Daganev, you are really transfixed on the attempts to mix Cosmic and Nature Magic, now aren't you? tongue.gif

Shiro, I'm trying to refrain from calling you stupid so many times, but the Empire was not worried about healing at all.. they were worried about expanding their power.

On topic: I think Daganev is correct that it was the mixing of Cosmic and Ethereal, refer to HELP MUGWUMP.

QUOTE
Descended from the Elder God Mugowumpois, this amphibian race originally
favored the swamps and marshlands. However, given their great intellect,
it was only natural that they gravitated to civilized areas in the
pursuit of the more scholarly professions.
The facial features of the
mugwumps favor their amphibian heritage, giving them a frog-like or
salamander-like appearance. However, with the interbreeding of humans,
some mugwumps have a surprisingly human-like appearance.

That right there is Mugwumps coming from a Low Magic culture (i.e. Serenwilde) to a High Magic culture (i.e. Magnagora, Celest).

not transfixed, just highly curious.

It appears to be an aspect of lusternia that was highly though out but not written about in obvious ways. And that always interests me.
