I had a lot of fun with Etanru's kidnapping, and was looking forward to Celest busting in and rescuing him. It was dissapointing when they killed him instead and then left without engaging us.
Seriously, it's an obvious option on the ooc level, but ruined a nice bit of roleplay for me otherwise. A team, infiltrate the crypt! B team, pwn all hostages! Withdraw! Go, go, go!
So, thoughts?

Explain what happened and no doubt I can wax eloquent about it for hours.

I was about to post about it, but you beat me to it. I'm a bit peeved.
So we all decide to kidnap Etanru and Lyren, with their ooc permission that they want to participate, and have ourselves some good roleplaying. I was looking forward to hostage negotiations with Celest, and fighting desperately to hold our ground as the Celestians charged in to retake their citizens. As soon as they breached the chamber, of course, we were going to kill the hostages as payment. Some nice, extended conflict.
But no. Celest does nothing more than, from what I saw, sling a few insults over shouts, then run in and kill their own citizens.
I knew it would happen. Take the easiest route possible by just killed the hostages. That way you get them back, because you regard death as nothing more than a small experience loss, and don't have to deal with the stress of roleplaying. Nice one, Celest.
Edit: Oh, and then Staer walked up to me later and killed me for being in the same room as Etanru.

Etanru and Lyren were kidnapped, afflicted, disfigured, mocked etc. Lots of shouts and threats from both sides. Celest gathers to rescue him, we had him in the crypt on spectre isle.
Celest gets nearby, we get ready for the big one, then Rhysus hailstorms Etanru to death and the Celestians leave without fighting us. Pretty meh.

T'was very lame from what I saw over shouts. The whole death realm thing should be introduced, or something that takes someone out of action for a while when they die, maybe. It might stop the 'killing for ease' thing.
Unknown2005-01-21 03:26:11
My respect for Celestian players' ability to RP just dropped several levels.
Hazar2005-01-21 03:26:37
That's just...just...
I can't even put words to it.

My feelings? Death is an established short term thing. Rhysus' experiences have led him to place trust in the Fates. If he caused someone's final death, then it was their time to go regardless. And I apologize if I didn't act like you expect a typical churchie to and try to negotiate or whatever. I slew Etanru because it would spare him the torture. I'll do what's necessary to ensure my citizens are free of the Taint, even if it means slaying them. Sorry if that's a bit too zealous for you, but that's the direction we should be going anyways.
Unknown2005-01-21 03:30:31
Meh.
Unknown2005-01-21 03:30:53
You forget: Magnagora deals in Undeath. I think the kidnappers should have played around with tainting Lyren and Etanru through Undeath. That'd be neat.
Unknown2005-01-21 03:31:27
Generally, in hostage situations in IRE games (Vodun hostages in Imperian), I don't kill the hostage unless they ask for it.
Rhysus2005-01-21 03:31:54
I didn't forget. I was very worried about that. But they didn't think to, so that worked out.
Unknown2005-01-21 03:33:19
Here are the three points and why all the insults towards celest is stupid.
One: Hell, we did try and resuce Etanru and I spent 4 mins trying to break the wall but nothing worked. We got hit by a couple of Boulderblasts so Rhysus said for the aquamancers to hailstorm. We killed Etanru on mistake but atleast hes not there anymore.

Anyone watch the series 24? This situation is really similar to what's happening on there right now. Just thought I'd throw that out there.
Unknown2005-01-21 03:35:15
We wouldn't of agreed to The kidnappers demands anyways. I sure as hell wouldn't offer Shiro up to Erion and his little goons. The situation would of happen sooner or later.
Hazar2005-01-21 03:38:12
Thank you, Shiro. You viewpoint has been presented. Several times now, in fact.
Unknown2005-01-21 03:38:41
Trying to get the point across.
Unknown2005-01-21 03:46:15
I think it would've turned out a lot more interesting if there wasn't a wall preventing any activity from both sides (except for like boulder blasts and hailstorm, which apparently did not produce nice, tasty results) >.<
Also, perhaps next time someone tries to stage an event like this, it could be more smoothly developed in the beginning? I mean, out of nowhere we hear that Lyren and Etanru were kidnapped, it almost looked like they just gave themselves to Erion. Instead it could have happened like this:
(Celest) Etanru says, "I feel like there's someone following me around..."
(Celest) Etanru says, "Wait, what's that rustling in the bush?"
(Celest) Etanru says, "Wai...AAHH! He..p...under att..ck, Erion!"
(Celest) Lyren says, "I'm coming, Etanru!"
(Celest) Lyren says, "Oh no, it's a trap! They're surrounding u..."
Erion shouts, "Muhaha I have kidnapped Etanru and Lyren, etc etc etc"

Actually, it was pretty planned out. Erion knew what he wanted. Of course, we wouldn't give him what he wantes.
Unknown2005-01-21 04:07:32
What did he want?
