Why are people getting burned out?

Back to Common Grounds.

I was reading Veonira's burnout thread and the ooc thread and came to a realization of sorts, as I think I may know why many people are becoming burned out on Lusternia.

Lusternia has all the things the other IRE games has, only it has them better. The whole fight over a village event is all over the place and actually pretty well balanced. You actually can do meaningful damage to your opposing organization through a variety of means.

So, that should be better, right? Maybe, maybe not. Thing is, as soon as someone must do something, it starts to feel like a chore. I would be all for defending nil from the attacks of Celestians who are draining massive energy from it, except I would have to be around 24/7 to catch them in the act. Truthfully, the idea of trying to defend nil from people willing to do the 4am log on makes me gag, and in other IRE games if I didn't do it, it wasn't a problem. But in Lusternia we're screwed if we don't and that's pretty meh. At the same time, I was willing to do the 4am logon in other games because it only happened during an "event" so it was an occasional thing. The Megalith's power is dropping like a... stone, because we have lives, and is it really worth giving it up for the Megalith? A line of text? No.

Perhaps the way power goes in and out should be changed to the somewhat cheesier model of the "master crystals" in other IRE games, where it always goes up. Attacks simply shrink the rate of growth.

In summary, village influencing, defending nil, and all of the meaningful things one can do in Lusternia seem cool at first, even awesome, but become a chore because they are things that need to be done as opposed to things that can be done for fun. I've decided though I'm a new player that that's Lusternia's problem. So, I hope for some feedback here as I'd be dissapointed if no one has any comments on my big post wink.gif

I.. actually agree. Its all repetition, and if you don't have people doing it, your city is screwed (see: supernals being slain, moon avatars being slain, demon lords being slain, village influencing, spectres/supplicants.. a lot of other things).

Meh, Daevos and Valek use to wait until 3-6 am eastern time and attack celest and kill all the guards when there was no one was around to defend them. It went the same with celestia. I agree with you somewhat.
Silvanus2005-01-22 03:00:02
Shiro, you obviously don't remember the Rafael morning raids, were we'd do all the work to kill all the dwarves in Southgard through a lot of Celestians, half of us wake up and Rafael and company took them all back when there were no Magnagorans around.

It's also about the quests. There are players in Magnagora who spend over 50% their online time doing the spike quest, because if they don't, the necromentate kills everyone. The spike quest is like their job and that's just not right. If the necromentate runs out of spikes, let the city lose its anti-summoning shield, but don't have the thing freakin' kill us. Doing a quest should be a bonus, not a requirement.

What I am saying is, It has happen many times to both sides.
Unknown2005-01-22 03:03:08
I don't know much about the quests but do the spikes decay in a fast or slow or medium time rate?
Silvanus2005-01-22 03:05:24
Fast rate, the beggars and spectres also disappear at a fast rate. It took my 8 minutes to pick up 7 beggars after 4 spikes decayed in a period of 10 minutes, in the 30 seconds after having 7 beggars, I go to the workshop and only 3 were following me, I head to the monument, and I only have 2 spikes left.

Edit: Thats from clearing out all of Spectre Isle, which should produce around 14 soup/spikes.
Unknown2005-01-22 03:07:26
I don't know the exact rate, and I totally agree that this kind of thing happens to all sides. But the point is, we must do the spike quest or we die. It's not an option. And that makes it unfun. Most of the things in Lusternia are like that.

I always thought the master crystals always going up in power was lame and wanted to hit them where it hurts and lower them, but I see now why they chose that model. The alternative sounds fun in theory but it isn't in application.

I don't know much about the spikes quest, do you need spectres for it to work or could any corpse do?

edit: I mean, weevils, rats. umm Starsuckers. grubs. stuff like that?
Unknown2005-01-22 03:13:14
You need to buy passage to spectre isle (or waterwalk there I guess), kill spectres, give them to this dude, go to this lady and give her what you get, then walk around all of magnagora until you find the wandering begar mobiles, then take them to the workhouse, then take the spikes to the appropriate monuments in the city and insert them, then take them to the necromentate.

Yes, that is the quest we must have someone doing several times a day or we all get killed. doh.gif

Holy.. That is unfair for Mags. What do the necromantes offer to Mag?>
Silvanus2005-01-22 03:15:42
Its the opposite of the Star of Celest.
Unknown2005-01-22 03:16:57
Not really, Supplicants quest isn't so odd.
Unknown2005-01-22 03:19:17
I never really understood what the point of the Star was, except that it was a wonderful RP feature.
Unknown2005-01-22 03:19:57
It use to supply New Celest was 500 power but now it seems like the dome and the star quit doing that.
Silvanus2005-01-22 03:25:26
The star powers the dome, which gives power, 500 if you have over 100 supplicants at each symbol. It also provides the anti-summoning field around Celest, and I think it enables you to have guards in villages.
Unknown2005-01-22 03:27:04
The dome and Star may be bugged or something but it quit giving 500 power.

Spike quest is GREAT. It helps the city, gives really good gold(until you can handle astral), and great exp(again, until you can handle astral). It really shouldn't be a thing the big guys always do, it should be teach the low-mid level guys how to do it. They all will gladly do it, as it helps them more then the city.

As far as the necro killing people, the damage is slow and low. Viscanti regen MORE then makes up for it.
Silvanus2005-01-22 03:34:21
Yeah, except out of 14 flasks, by the end you only get 2 spikes.
