Heh thanks.

Another good idea, far too cheap. Paying 5000gp for a constant source of income?
Compare in price and usefulness to flower pots. Planting is more useful, and it should (will) cost more. Cheapest you're looking at is 100cr (75cr with the sale) same as forge, etc, but that's still pretty cheap.
Aebrin2005-01-23 22:08:58
I just whipped the prices outta my butt. I wasn't sure how much each should hold out for. I just did 5K because it's a nice round number
Daganev2005-01-23 23:28:54
one reason for terrain to cost more than 4K is because of the healing properties terrains give people.
Its should be more costly so it changes less often.
I like the idea of a newsroom, a post office, a garden artifact, chaning terrain type, libraries (which don't see to exist yet), and anything else that would allow a very rich miser to just sit in his manse and never leave but sometimes have visitors over.

I don't think healing properties are quite such a big deal when it's restricted to one room that people REALLY shouldn't be attacking you in anyway, and people can just fiddle with mage demesnes in the first place.
Daganev2005-01-23 23:55:45
water forest and tainted are not the only places that give healing bonuses. sand lets some people heal afflictions.
Shiri2005-01-23 23:58:10
Oh, yeah, okay.
But the first one still applies.

Silvanus2005-01-23 23:59:45
As does volcanic areas and does marsh/swamp.
Aebrin2005-01-24 00:57:15
Speaking of healing areas blah blah
What about cold environments and hot environments...
I am not sure the scope of this but perhaps snowy environments mean you can have snowballs regardless of the outside world and also cooks can put food there which decay slower.

I deliberately mentioned not being able to grow herbs in the aetherways because that would change the dynamic of what a manse is. Remember, all those expensive tradeskill artifacts that already exist don't actually give you your own supply, only increase your output.
Being able to grow and control your own herbs would give an enormous market advantage, and here I would agree with Isntinuse... it would have to be far more expensive than the current 300-500cr trade artifacts.
I'm not a herbalist though, so I don't particularly want forest just so i can grow garden herbs. I think its a good idea, but its separate from the issue of changing environment type.
Also, the healing properties of different environments can already be obtained just by a mage/druid creating the necessary demesne, as Shiri said. As for Dracnari, well, I'm not sure why they wouldn't have a place to bask in their own private home. Wouldn't that be one of the first things they would ask for, IC?
I really like some of the library/newsroom/etc ideas, keep them coming!
Oh, and one other thing I'd like:
MANSE SET EXIT SECRET.
- Will hide the room exit from the room description
- Costs 1000 gold
- SECRETS will reveal the exit.

There's an artifact for that, Elryn.
Elryn2005-01-24 02:25:11
Oh my goodness, they added a stake. Hehe, nevermind.
Yay Divine!! Reading our thoughts before we have them!

Daganev2005-01-24 02:27:52
Nobody said they should not be allowed to have their own special terrain, we just said it should cost more than 4K
Elryn2005-01-24 02:29:58
Ok, but if so, make the default manse environment 'aether'. Then it can cost an equal amount to make them urban (for paintings/statues/rp/whatever).
Shamarah2005-01-24 02:31:09
Maybe make an artifact that, when used in the fulcrux, lets us control the weather throughout the manse at will? Make blizzards appear all through the manse!
Fun!
Fun!

That would be awesome. Especially after listening to Richter, I can envision building your own little world where you have total control.
What I'd like to see is a way to set room emotes.
Sylphas2005-01-24 04:53:06
Now that I'm thinking about this more, I can envision a lot of cool things, especially for RP. Also, this would be a way to sell more artifacts to more people, since most artifacts currently are more focused on combat.
I think you should be able to have full control over your manse. Set the environment, weather, room emotes, even add NPCs (give them reactions and such the same you do pets).
As the plane system exists now, it's a bit limited. With your own aether realm, you can expand on this to having your own little plane, instead of being tied in to the current planar scheme. Maybe create a world where no one knows of the other planes (or magic, etc), and people from Lusternia are exotic, or even worshipped as godlike beings.
*daydream*
Of course, that's probably far from what manses were intended for, and even if they added it, to get even a small village you'd be spending a LOT of credits.

Yes, like the locker people. (You gotta watch that movie, Sylphas.)

For the love of all that is good in this world, chess boards.
