The secret passageway thing is a coding issue, unless you have your standard bookshelf with one book slightly out. But hey, if we all had one of those, it wouldn't be secret anymore. Put it in the room desc and hide the exit. happy.gif

I can see it:

Lighting reflect off everywall as the large stateroom is well lit by a marvelous chandelier, complete with hundreds amongst hundreds of candles. A spiral staircase rises up towards the Master Bedroom, framed with a stout mahogany door. Large paintings of sights around the Basin frame the walls and as a head piece to the room, a large naked statue carved from marble sits at the back of the room against the beige wall.

pull thing on statue
As you pull the lever downwards from the statue, the statue rolls to the west, revealing a secret passage in.

In addition to chess boards, blackjack tables and roulette wheels would give us something to do in our manses. I doubt the profits would go to the owners (at least without a heavy fee), but it would be wonderful to have those and maybe other games available to put in a room.
Lyren2005-01-28 11:17:24
Well, I always thought the option to convert the room into a food/drink shop in other IRE games was neat, even if the owner wouldn't receive profits. Converting it into a gambling parlour would be interesting - aether casinos? Assuming you could get the money, it'd be quite a lucrative investment. I like the chess board idea a lot, assuming there aren't coding issues (though I can't think of what those would be), they could just be sold as miniatures. happy.gif
Buho2005-01-28 14:22:59
Accually minitures take a bit more then you would thing. Originally it wasn't going to be with them, but we agreed it would be more RP oriented to have you place items yourself.

I've seen alot of idea's I like thus far, please keep them coming. Try to remember manses should not really be anything one could make from, so things like growing herbs probably won't be implemented.

I think to get some ideas for manses, we can think of alternate uses for them with the current system. If we think of them beyond a house for one person, we could make them into family estates, dens for theifs. A secret meeting place for a small sect of wizards, or mabee a fortess for an elite group of knights. What is we had manses that were able to be invaded by enemy forces, but the defending people had a lot of things to their advantage. you could have castle manses with walls and turrets and stuff. I'm just hinking of the top of my head by the way.

What I would really like to see is custom items that can be placed in rooms. you can set a description and you could set triggers. For instance, a basic item would just be inspectable and no nothing else, you can see it in IH and QL. You could also have an item that is more expensive that when you touch if it spitts out a message to the person to that touched it. like "Touch shimmering mirror" the user then sees "The mirror distorts and warps into an image of an ancient merian smiling at you. He tells you, 'welcome to Seawind Hall'" Or you could have a trigger when the user enters some text (I don't know how hard these things are to code). I was thinking of having a spire with a balcony on our family manse. At the top there is a large horn built into the tower. When the user types BLOW HORN it spits out a message something like "The low pitch of this great and ancient horn reverberates in the stone work of the tower. As you blow it you see a flock of large condors rapidly fly from the horizon and swoop over your head"

All these things wouldn't really have any effect on the game. all it is is trigger message, output message. I can think of tons of uses for this.

I'm -not- going to have my 2 mil gp+ and rising home be able to be invaded by anyone.

Except those exotic dancers I see from time to time...
ohtaren2005-01-28 23:50:36
I was just thinking off the top of my head. It could be a choice that the owner could make to make it invadable or not and only for a certain period of time. Just for some cool plot stuff.
Elryn2005-01-29 03:20:37
Oh, and in addition to gambling devices, some of the other games might be fun in manses. Like being able to hold a hot beret game, or a riddle contest, or any appropriate games listed under help 17.

But roulette and blackjack would definitely take the cake. smile.gif

One other thing, and I'm not sure how appropriate this would be in the grand scheme of things, but what about being able to purchase a room upgrade so that an item will be able to store power there? The only way to get power into it is by draining your own reserves into it, which has a slight loss, and then only allies of the owner can drain from it (again with a slight loss). I can't see it being too helpful since its essentially like transferring power between players, but it could have a bit of rp flavour.
Yrael2005-01-29 04:02:42
Gates, perhaps? Planar ones. You buy, then drop a gate item, then buy a gate focus, or something. For, say, 50 power from your reserves, it lets you create a permenant gate to any plane.

Crystal Arch (50000 gold)
Plant (Arch)
Attach Focus to (arch)
PLANTing an Arch places it in a location, permenantly, reading it to become a planar gate. Attaching a focii attuned to the correct plane allows power to be channeled through the gate (50% reserves) opening a permenant gate to another plane which only you can use.

And, perhaps make each person past the level of, say, 80 or 90 get an altered Masne. You gain an Aether Manse that cannot be expanded onto, only set up so it acts as a one room home, cant be made into a shop, and the like.

Yay for Roark! clap_1.gif

Thankyou for implementing the ideas mentioned here, you rock.

(As discussed before, this has slight negative consequences for those who want paintings/statues in their manse... but hopefully there'll be a way to pay for a change to proper urban environment later. whistling.gif)
Buho2005-01-30 08:00:58
Grrr, I did it tongue.gif

Manses will always stay as Aether now. Maybe later there could be a way to allow paintings in manses.

Keep your eye on the Aethershops, you'll see new things coming in.
Elryn2005-01-30 08:08:51
Ohh! Sorry! You rock, Buho! wub.gif

Thanks... it is a great start. I can't wait to see what you guys think of next!

There, that should be enough for the work that you have been doing...and the work that you will do in the future.
Buho2005-01-30 08:10:57
Roark still rocks. Don't worry I've seen alot of good ideas here, so you should see some new things soon enough.
Ialie2005-01-30 08:17:57
You have no idea how excited that makes me!
Ialie2005-01-30 10:37:26
What about a way to add a place that you can use SCRUB. A bathroom of sorts
Ialie2005-01-30 15:43:38
Bah third post in a row.. but what about the ability to be able to ally someone to your manse and allow them to add rooms as if it were their own manse. Sort of like allying a shop?

Poker tables! Implement poker! Texas Hold'em, but call it Stewartsville Hold'em!
