It looks like this on Capri, Cancer and Libra now. Haven't checked the other spheres yet, but i bet it won't bw long till -all- of Astral will look like this. wacko.gif
So unless you have a cubix, which not all of us can afford, you have real problems getting around now. Hermit won't work, teleport only if you can fly.
Sure you can pick up the spores, since they go through mono, but they are not always there either.
Of course you can alwayws tesseract to get back, or conglutinate, but if you have neither you're screwed, and it might take you many many hours to get back to your nexus. And that without hunting only waiting for the spheres to open..

And second, Monoliths can't be destroyed. Unlike Achea we don't have sigils for that.

So, i posted this here because i don't intend this as a rant but rather as an explanation why i think we need something to get rid of flamed monos.
Monolithing Astral like that - that's just nuts blink.gif
Unknown2005-01-24 12:10:20
See all the other ideas posts about a possible method to destroy monoliths. I'd prefer a pulverise type ability, that Wardancers had in Imperian.
Devris2005-01-24 12:14:21
The more people get jumped in their favorite bashing places, the more likely they are to throw down monos in those spots. I haven't done it yet, but I've pondered it in between the jumpings.
Unknown2005-01-24 12:25:28
yea i know. I've gotten jumped often enough now too, but thing is, monos won't help you. There are too many people with cubixes and gems of cloaking around. the only thing Monos will do is make it more difficult for you to escape sad.gif

But then i wouldn't be surprised if that's what they want.. As Melanchthon once said we're just big sacks of exp for them. It's faster to kill those high up in the rankings than hunt for your exp.
Ixion2005-01-24 12:33:53
Monos help and hurt for being jumped.

Good:
-It gives you time to see people coming from afar via spheres when they dont have a cloaking gem, which is most everyone
-If you stick to your nexus' sphere, you are relatively safe for quick exits
-Lichdom, pretty much negates any and all xp loss on astral as long as you are on a sphere with a way out

Bad:
-If you cant fly, well that sucks.
-If you dont have a cubix and the other person does, it is very hard for you to escape

In general, the "usual gang of idiots" try to jump on astral but other than them, it's not too bad. I'd rather not have the mono's because they are annoying, but they are there and we have to deal with it.
Sylphas2005-01-24 15:01:11
You couldn't just drop a mono, pick it up when you move? It won't stop anyone picking it up in combat (once they get there), but don't you usually flame them so the guy you're attacking can't get out? Why would the attacker pick up a mono?
Vesar2005-01-24 15:03:36
If you want to put monoliths up there, fine. But leave at lease 1 room un-monolithed to allow us to port and tess away from there.

And for the Divine among us... please please please give us a method of removing monoliths...

Exactly.
Unknown2005-01-24 16:45:47
That would be Narsrim who put all those up there. Don't ask me why - he probably thought it was amusing or something.
Shiri2005-01-24 16:54:59
Nah, he only did Capricorn, as revenge for someone else doing Cancer and Libra.
Niara2005-01-24 17:00:47
He did so, so he won't get jumped or whatever, I wasen't able to follow that reasoning. In my eyes this is plain abuse as everyone is aware that they cannot be removed. I find it extremely questionable when one person more or less screws a lot of others just for his own convenience.
Unknown2005-01-24 17:15:13
Well I don't have the skills to fight up there yet, but when I do, which shall be soon, I'm sure this will annoy me. Also, it seems EVERYWHERE is monolithed... whats the point of teleport and summon?

oh but there are things that go through a mono.. it's just that cities don't have that.

so -please- give us a way to remove mono!

What, I'm going to flow my way around Astral? Or do you mean spores, which don't work across planes?
Unknown2005-01-24 18:34:53
Spores work just fine on Astral *cough*

I haven't been up there for a while, so if someone forested most of it, I stand corrected. I cannot, however, spore from Astral to any other plane, regardless.
Vesar2005-01-24 18:45:44
But you can spore from say, Virgo to Cancer.
Unknown2005-01-24 18:47:28
@Sylphas: planes no. But you can spore if you are on a mono, unlike with hermit. That's what i mean..

It works across continents? Didn't know that. And you still need forest, but I wasn't really paying attention, so for all I know, half of Astral could be forest.
Unknown2005-01-24 18:49:57
either all of Astral -is- forest then or a forested Location has the same effects.. or spores don't need that
