I'm walking through astral like normal, trying to get to a sphere. I move away one room then I saw a lobo enter then attack me. So I think, time to kill my thousand Lobo. Right when it hits me, I dissapear and reappear within Celest. I thought to myself. What the hell.. do they have a teleport attack or something.. then I found out it was starleaper.. It almost scared me into a early grave..
Maedhros2005-01-24 21:36:37
Huh?
I don't get it...what's a starleaper?

Sorry, With the speed of Shanth of the Quiet Mind within you, if you are ever attacked
unawares, you will immediately fly out of the room to an adjacent room at a
speed that defies description. If there is no exit in the room where you are
attacked, there is no effect. Its a tarot skill

I did, when it was in Alpha, and then some more in Beta. Me and my friends were addicted. It was fun back then, but...I'd never pay for it.
And I so killed Baphomet.

What does it mean when it says "attacked unawares"? As far as I know that lobo wasn't really sneaking up on you.
Unknown2005-01-25 02:50:50
It means if someone enters the room and attacks you without attacking first.
Drago2005-01-25 03:22:48
Actually, its a little more specific.
Any time you take damage, it gets set off.
This includes damage from putrefaction.
It also doesn't move you if you can't move normally, which makes it a trifle pointless.

Bring back my beloved star tarot...
Aebrin2005-01-25 18:22:28
Actually how does Tarot in Lusternia compare to Tarot in other IRE games? Better, worse, the same?
Unknown2005-01-25 18:27:33
I prefer tarot from Achaea/Imperian/Aetolia. Mainly because there is actually a reason to trans it there to get supercharge. Secondly, I can think of a use for every single card. I can see how they tried to make it work here, but there is just too many cards that are worthless. Word tarot, the trans skills, is a sad attempt to make up for lack of a doppleganger. Only you can't, or could not, use lust with it. The only thing I can see for that is having a small army of Nihilists/Celestines in an area and just have them spam world/aeon or hangedman. I also see alot of things geared to group combat, which I personally do not like as it takes little skill to fight like that. Tarot is a wonderful skillset and was quite balanced in the world of IRE, but people thought it was overpowered because of the usefullness with a small army of demons/ents. One day when I'm bored I'm going to make a list of tarot from other IRE games and compare it side by side here.

I played an Occultist on Achaea and always hated the fact supercharge needed to exist. It's like they cripple a skillset for no reason and then offer you an uncrippled version as the trans skill. Ditto for venom secretions and metamorphosis shapeshifting.

Supercharge is a built in balancing factor, Roark. Tarot is a very effective and deadly skill when combined with domination/enslavery and occultism/noctu/necromancy. Charging and supercharging made it where a simple affliction like stupidity could make all the difference when fighting someone with it. It required the Occultist to outd *card, charge *card, fling *card at @t/ground. This process could also be disrupted by web or whatever else you can think of. By removing super/charge there is step missing and it's alot easier to use.
As far as supercharge crippling a skillset, I think you misjudge it. I've fought with tarot in two IRE games and I could do fine without supercharge. Supercharge only allows the person to be better. I've also fought as a Shadowsnake in Aetolia as well as being the Head Assassin for the Saboteurs in Imperian, while I worked as classlead in charge of balancing skills.
What you see as crippling is in actuality a coded balance. From what I've seen and dealt with here in Lusternia is a total lack of balance the attempt to overpower everything to resolve that. Valek, Daevos, and I have been trying to fix this and now Jelaludin had jumped on the band wagon. Many of us have previous experience balancing multiple classes in IRE realms.

The venoms and tarot aren't exactly the same though. The charged tarot cards seemed to fade quite a bit faster than it takes for the venom to poison the user. Plus secreting can be done as long as you aren't asleep. I haven't used tarot enough to know if it's the same, but I'm guessing it isn't.

I honestly when I started, felt everything considered underpowered here, when compared to other realms, simply because the existance of power. Just for example, Absolve/Wrack/Toadcurse cost 8 power, and you cannot just keep trying for it multiple times, like in other realms. If you miss, you are still down 8 power, and now can no longer do your more powerful attacks. Power is the balancing factor, you absolutely need powerful skills, because you cannot use them multiple times, merely once or twice, and hope that they die. If they survive you using your feets, well, you have no firepower left with which to kill someone, and it is time to flee.
Edit: Not to mention curing is easier here. Aeon cured by drinking a vial, anyone?
