sure, i see your point. but the thing is, there are so many untainted races, and only one tainted is what im saying. ok, let's say yoru a viscanti that resembles a tainted faeling? where did that extra strength come from? what about flying, shouldn't you be able to fly?
Auseklis2005-01-25 16:06:42
A couple of things...
The taint that remains now doesn't really have much transformation power. Whilst it can still change things, it takes a lot of time and power to do so.
And there are various other tainted 'races' that already exist and have potential to open up as playable in the future... but I think 20 races are more than enough for the moment (how many krokani have you seen?).

Tainted Fae are one. Bah, you got me curious now!
Erion2005-01-25 17:44:13
I just really wanna see a Tainted Merian race, so I can get back my water breathing, and not have to be a Viscanti. I try, but a good desc can only go so far.
Shiri2005-01-25 17:47:42
Ehh. It'd reduce the uniqueness of each of the races though. Merian wouldn't be the same if there were just "manky Magnagoran Merian" to go along with them. Whereas Viscanti aren't MEANT to be quite so unique, per se, because their uniqueness is in their diversity - if that makes any sense.
Erion2005-01-25 17:55:12
What about an ability in guild specialization that adds a flag prior to one's race, like "Tainted Merian", or "Tainted Mugwump"? So we'd be seeing a liched Merian running around like, "Undead Tainted Merian". Etc.
Shiri2005-01-25 18:03:07
Oooh. Hm, that's a lot better.

I thought we're promoting Guido to the God of Uberness?
Strike me down if I'm wrong but from my point of view I think there was two gods per community. 2 Treehuggers (Lisaera and Auseklis), 2 Tainted (Raezon and Fain)and 2 Light (Lacostian and Isune). When Lacostian decided to go neutral, they had to get another Divine into Celest so out pops Terentia.
Now back to the topic:
Personally I think they should have hidden some races until special events... like Mugwumps and Lucidians. When Hallifax and Gaudiguch comes back, then bang - new races (well old races that came back) becomes once more available to people.

Please, do NOT add Goblins or Orcs to the game. It's so typical, and so far, I've really enjoyed that Lusternia is almost entirely original.

Orcs already exist.
Unknown2005-01-25 19:14:15
they should be playable, though. What i dont get, and not to knock on lusternia (they are the best IRE game thus far), but why have so many sentinent races, but only have a select few? ok, what im saying is this. look at aetolia and achaea, for example. roughly, 12 races, yet, they have so many more types of races. Now, I know i said to open up a tainted counterpart for each, but what im saying here is that all sentinet races in the lands should be open to players. I also think there should be some leeway with the races. For example, dracnari's. Do they all really need to have green scales, couldnt we have red scales too? or how about black?
Shiri2005-01-25 19:17:09
...you could...just describe your scales differently in DESCRIBE ME. What's the difference between that and Aetolia? Types of races, huh what? Orcs are playable, more or less. HELP ORCLACH. Orcs are just puny crippled versions thereof.

I don't understand what you're saying. Do you mean there's more playable races here, but more total races in Aetolia/Achaea? If so, I know that's not true in Aetolia. Orcs and ogres are really the only non playable sentient races I know of there. So that's fourteen if you include all the playable races, as opposed to toe twenty plus races in Lusternia. Maybe there's sixteen in Aetolia, tops.
Unknown2005-01-25 19:35:26
nononono. I ment, ok, we have 12 playable races, but then, there are like.....7 or so that cant be played. sure, orclach can be playable, but wouldnt orc's be different? I mean, not to get into it too deep, but orclach are basically trolls. their the trolls from aetolia/achaea. now, wouldnt orcs be a seperate species? if not, they wouldnt be called orcs, they'd be called orclachs. The whole matter is very complicated. But the way i see it, for the unseelie (orclach) races through taint would be as follows.
Orclach->orc->goblin->gremlin-> imp
from right to left, they'd be in order form the purest to the most tainted.(demonic)

Shiri2005-01-25 19:43:10
But...WHY should it work like that? It's orclach, and orcs. They're the same race, but one's pathetic and can't be played. Imps are tainted Fae, as you'll see if you succeed in feeding honey to one and kidnapping it. There's no reason for it to be like that, historically or logicall. Trolls aren't even involved at any point, anywhere.
Unknown2005-01-25 19:46:20
exactly.
Desdemona2005-01-25 20:56:42
Maybe people exposed to the Taint for long periods of time should become like morlocks. Hating the sun, and craving to expand the Taint and for a relation with the Taint. The skin of people who have lived with the Taint for years could turn pale and lucidians loose luster. It would be fun.

Obviously out of necessity there were two per organization. Lacostian, however has always been neutral and I don't forsee anything that could change that.
Shoshana2005-01-26 08:14:20
Perhaps there should be something in character generation where if you choose viscanti you get a choice as to what race you (or your family or whatever) originated from, and that would show up when people looked at you, so instead of "He is a fiendish viscanti" you'd see "He is a -like viscanti." Or you chould choose that it's impossible to tell, and keep "fiendish."
ravin2005-01-26 11:30:27
i see the taint as a something that afects different people in different ways. For instance if you notice Ravin he's slowly getting more paranoid and insane as his time with the taint goes by. He's been seen to have given out a guildfavour for spreading the taint, and he believe the taint whispers to him.
i'd like to have the option to add tainted mugwump in my honours though that sounds good. Being a wugwump and being a bit more delicate than other races is one reason why Ravin is slowly getting twisted by the taint.
As time goes by Ravin will crave the taint more and more, anyone notice him getting a lot more protective of his meld?

well, it all makes sense in my mind. I got my own little language, and it works out to me. Despite what others say. But anyway.....I think that thing with the viscanti would be good. I also suggest viscanti be customizeable in similar respects. For example, there are no base stas for a viscanti, but their based off of what became tainted in some respects.
