If you want to have tae'dae stats and be tainted, be a tainted tae'dae. If you want to be a bizarre mutation that's really unlike the race it originated from, be a Viscanti.

which is kinda what i ment.....sort of....
Manjanaia2005-01-26 18:15:19
I think there's room for another couple of Divine. Perhaps a pair that don't attach themselves to an organisation but have animosity for each other, with some order conflict maybe.
Desdemona2005-01-26 19:17:30
You know, I actually think the Viscanti are morlock-like. Viscanti originally were beings from other races (merian, everything), that were transformed by the taint, so essentially, Viscanti are offshoot of other races but thanks to inbreading between Viscanti and the passing of time, the Viscanti did become their own race. So, whatever stats the Viscanti have right now are the stats of said race.

Though, after placing more thought about it, I actually think that any transformations induced by the Taint after a long period of time (ten years), could be clearly shown on people's descriptions if people decided to constantly update their descriptions showing how they are changing.

Or maybe, Lusternia could have a system that gives people from Tainted lands who have spent living embraced by the taint for about 10 years some stat alterations reflecting their current state. The same could happen for people from other places. Something like: People from the Taint all get +1 Strength and -1 Int, after living at least for ten years in the taint.

Concerning any future race. I am not sure if people notice how human are a new race, I think after the Viscanti. And in some race's descriptions, they mention interracial breeding, so any future races could be the product of generations of interracial breeding: example: Merian breeding with human, suddenly giving a new race the Mermans? tongue.gif

Could always give viscanti the skill to bite people, and spread taint into people who agree to be tainted a bit like vampires.

What would be a not bad feature, is when you select Viscanti, you also select the race/sub-race that you derive from.

He is a Viscanti dwarf and .........

Your inbreeding would tend towards a more generic Viscanti stat, but for instance Size could work off your racial selection for Viscanti.

Strength : 13 Dexterity : 10 Constitution: 13
Intelligence: 12 Charisma : 10 Size : 8

Just an idea.. Flame away

I like that idea. I like the idea of the game selecting your stats. I'm not sure how many of you are or were familiar with transmogrification in the occultist skillsets, but perhaps over a period of time (every ten years) you gain one positive perk, and one negative perk. For example:

Scholmo the dwarf ur'guard has been living in mag for ten years. As a result, the tain has made his skin soft and pale (level 1 vunderability to cutting damage), yet, has given him more muscle mass( +1 to strength).

And every ten years, it would go on liek such. However, the players never select what attributes they gain.

I don't think anyone would choose that race, don't think the taint changing means the taint making a race inferior. The main motivation for the tainted fae event, was Fain and Raezon posting that Magnagora would get another tainted race to their disposal, to provide an alternative to viscanti, through experiments in which we'd taint the fae. So we were expecting something like an intelligent imp or dark-elf/drow kinda race, course that was a load of false hope from the very start. Those posts were apparently a last-resort method, a blatant lie, to get Magnagora to attack Serenwilde.

But I bet you can all imagine how nifty it'd be to have some drow walking around.

I stand by the belief that Viscanti should remain a race, and be considered as a mixture of multiple races that have interbred through the Taint. They're their own race. But they should allow an ability (Say, the first one in Necromancy/Nihilism/Geomancy, depending on your guild) that makes your race Tainted Whosamabob. It would take away any racial regens (IE Merian in water), but allow some things (Merians able to breathe water) to remain, and put in taint regen lvl 3, like Viscanti has, and adjust stats accordingly.

Although that'd take a lot of coding. And make it a largely negative stat drop for Orclach. tongue.gif

Who wants to play a character with a crap change (say -2 con, +1 dex and +1 fire resist) for 10 years hoping that it'll improve? The odds of utter crap happening to your character are too big.
Desdemona2005-01-27 19:16:32
Actually, the idea is okay. It only means that after a person lives in an enviroment for an extended period of time suddenly adapts a personality/features shaped by that environment. So my idea was, that after long time (ten years, sounds fine), people from the Taint get their stats altered in general: All tainted people, despite race get +1 strength -1 Int. And only once, not something progressively, meaning that every other passing decade they suffer again another change. Also, any changes could be reversed if a person suddenly left their habitat and moved to another. Meaning, that the +1/-1 bonus Tainted people had is removed when they left for Serenwilde, for instance after a decade of living away from Tainted lands.

Does everyone wake up in the morning and try to figure out the best way to screw of Magnagorans? And just make playing Lusternia as a Tainted charachtter as unpleasant as possible?
Desdemona2005-01-27 19:34:44
Hey, mentioning the Taint for stats alterations was just an example, seeing how the title of the thread is "The Taint" - and how it disfigures, I wished to keep the idea on topic. Basically, I am sure that there are many out there who do view the Taint as a changing force. Another example for stat alterations, depending of your nature could be: People from the forest ge: +2 Strength, -1 Dex, -1 Int, after living for a decade in the forest Or something like that.

In a way, you can view the Taint as something that prevents you from being hit by sunlight, so the becoming pale could be justified. In any case, playing Tainted does seem interesting, instead of otherwise.
Daganev2005-01-27 19:41:07
yes it changes things, but its not a Nanobeing. Its not constantly changing everything, even things its allready changed.

Colors of Taint that I have seen so far, red, black, grey, sickly brown, sickly green.

The taint has nothing to do with sunlight.. *eyeshift*
Gwylifar2005-01-27 21:22:27
I hope it wouldn't be a bite. That's too vampire. Besides, the tone doesn't seem right.

I wrote something in my background that I think would be more apt. Spitting a glob of writhing, viscid webby fluid that clings to the target and sort of wriggles and tries to burrow in. That'd fit the tone better IMO and also fit the descriptions in the history more (it'd be a more concentrated form of the taint).

You could even make it something sensible in code. Causes blindness if not "accepted", so it'd be an attack of sorts.

But really I kind of like taintedness being more a matter of who you are, not some coded thing like Aetolian vampirism.
Unknown2005-01-28 14:30:58
well, you see, my original idea was you get a minor advantage for a minor disadvantage.
