I'm not very sure about the benefits or disadvantages of the different types of doors... could a mage or divine or someone just clear up this for me?
I know some doors can be blasted open, and others can't... but it is just the ugly reinforced steel door that is immune to everything? Do the other doors have increased chances of being opened, or are they just different looking?

Reinforced steel can not be blasted or barged open, each of the others ones have varying degrees of times such blasts or bardges are needed.
Elryn2005-01-26 01:14:48
Ick, I wonder if they can be customised slightly?
Daganev2005-01-26 01:15:51
50 credits
but I wonder, why worry about it when you can lock who even gets into your manse in the first place.

Because my manse is the area in which my home is situated. The actual forest is open to everyone.
Estarra2005-01-26 01:49:23
Only reinforced steel is unbreakable. Sorry, can't customize doors either (it's not like an 'item' that can be tweaked, its hard coded in a manner that would make customizing impractical).
What's wrong with your 'personal' section being protected by a reinforced steel door?

Crawling with leafy vines and ivy, white sandstone walls run along the

Yes, it can be done... but ew.
Sylphas2005-01-26 02:11:48
Why not have a magical, wooden, alternative? Strengthened with magic so that it's unbreakable, but so it looks a bit nicer. Even in real life you could disguise them to be more pleasing, but here we have a whole skillset of illusions, it shouldn't be hard.
Unknown2005-01-26 12:48:07
It is hard coded Sylphas, as Estarra said, so there is some sort of difficulty with changing it apparently.
Typhus2005-01-26 19:44:59
Why even have it as a door? A custom entrance, where people who aren't enemied can just touch something?
Daganev2005-01-26 19:49:55
ok first of all, the door description does not say its grey. Its just reinforced steel. You can easily have a reinforced steel door with moss growing on it, and impurities and imprefections shining through.
Just watch any of those old movies where people find an old factory in the woods.

Makes sense, as the beginning of my manse is public, and the rest will be private. Perhaps the addition of one or two more doors? A shimmering magical portal perhaps? *shrug*
You see a large reinforced steel door here. It's got moss and stuff on it.

The doors are hard coded. If you want a wooden door with a magical lock on it, find a mage, and use MAGELOCK! *gasp*
Elryn2005-01-26 22:45:24
Wait, does this magelock stop people breaking/barging it open?
Shiri2005-01-26 23:07:10
It resists it. For like...a minute. Maybe.
Daganev2005-01-27 01:20:23
it lasts longer than that. And yes it does stop it, thats why the skills exist.
I was so happy when I first saw those skills, but if everything is going to be a reinforced steel door, it kinda takes the fun away.

Actually, it fluctuates. Unless it was changed, granted it's been eons since I used it.
But at one point someone barged through a magelock I'd made like 30 seconds ago on the door outta Southgard (Qaletaqa and Erion probably remember...maybe?) and other times people banged on the thing for like 3 minutes to no effect.

Shamarah2005-01-27 01:33:27
Yeah, magelock lasts for only a few minutes.
Ialie2005-01-27 07:37:30
What about making your private area branch off behind public a room, that has a down entrance with the steel door. From there there can be an underground tunnel leading into your forest.
Sylphas2005-01-27 15:57:25
What's so hard about adding doors? Yeah, they may be hard coded, but it seems like it would be the work of a minute or two to copy the code for the other doors, paste, and change the description.
