So I spent lots of credits on thirdeye thinking it would let me see shrouded people moving in and out like in the other games, but it doesn't! Blarghe!
Is that how it's supposed to be?

Thirdeye in the other realms does NOT allow you to see shrouded people moving in and out of rooms.
In the other realms, there was two separate states. Shrouded and hidden.
Shrouded made your movements and actions invisible, such as picking up objects, or leaving the room. You were also invisible in the said room. However, if a person had thirdeye, they could see you in the room, but they still could not see your actions (moving, picking up things, etc). They would simply see, "So and so is here, shrouded." when they entered the room or GLANCEd.
Hidden was different. Hidden made you invisible in the room, even to those with thirdeye. However, you were still completely visible when you moved between rooms, or did things.
This is why Shadowsnakes/Saboteurs/Idras are so stealthy, they get both hide and a shrouding ability.
If you had Lifevision, or Hypersight in Vision, you could see them no matter what, even when they were moving between rooms (unless they evaded).

I actually like thirdeye, it saves you charges on window or scry enchantment. But if you want to talk about useless abilities, I'd like to nominate douse and search. How many times have you seen a forest-fire of any types in Lusternia?
And search, in the other IRE realms they're supposed to bring people out of hiding as well as spot people in the trees. But here it doesn't negate yesod, doesn't detect invisible people, only tell me that someone is in the trees (I think). So useless, meh.

There was a forest fire about once, but I guess Pyromancers will make that more useful. Yes, that is what search does, and worse it gives them a warning. As far as useless goes? Hm, I'll nominate most of Environment, and...Sylph. At least search does something, sylph doesn't do ANYTHING. (I'm still not entirely sure if it's bugged and she's supposed to help w/runes too...it DOES say objects, after all)

I am a double post. Please ignore me.

You're thinking of lifevision, which I definitely want.
Thirdeye is dang good, though.

There's also ghosted and phased, if you're a Serpentlord.
Lifevision lets you see hidden, shrouded, and ghosted, including movement in and out of rooms and certain actions. Side benefit is seeing through illusions about a third of the time.
Thirdeye lets you see who's shrouded in a room, without the actions. Side benefit is seeing the rooms for everyone on the WHO list.
When someone's ghosted, you don't see their identity when they move. You'll instead just see "a ghostly apparition" do something. The hiding abilities all have different purposes and reasons for stacking them or using/not using them in certain situations, which I'm sure any decent Serpentlord would have learned already.

Search has never revealed shrouded people on any mud that I can remember.

You are just repeating exactly what I said.
Ghosted just hid your name if someone could see you with lifevision/hypersight, or if you didn't have shroud active. I'm not really counting phased, else I would have included Idras masked, and there is no way to spot phase anyway, you are outside the regular plane.
Unknown2005-01-28 16:18:33
I didn't exactly repeat what you said. I added to it.
Search in other games reveals hidden people only. I'm still unsure of what search does in Lusternia. I've just heard rumors that it spots folks in the trees or the skies.

It's never done the skies that I know of. It does trees only from my experience. Lets them know you did it, too.

Ok so in Lusternia from what Im reading, the Invis skill hides your actions? and Yesod hides movement right? and third eye lets you see room locations and cloaked (yesod users) in the room?
so how does a gem of cloaking tie into this? Does it only do what it says? remove you from cwho and qwho or will a gem of cloaking also stop scrys or window?
And while Im on the subject what skills strip each of the above? I know dustorm and the aquamancer staff thing detect yesod and doesnt dispell illusion strip invis? gotta go do some testing......

Just WHO and QW, for the gem, not scries and windows. Invisibility doesn't hide your actions, nothing does. It only hides movement and presence, same as Yesod, Night, and Camouflage (for totems and nature users, at night and outdoors respectively). As for skills that strip the above, defense strippers like Spring do it, dispell gets rid of invisibility, and whirl staff/cudgel for each mage/druid archetype REVEALS hiding people's presences, but doesn't actually dispell it.

Does anyone else find it stupid that search does so little and actually gives away the name of the person that was foolish enough to try it anyway? Yet, summoning people all over the Prime Material Plane for one's own personal enjoyment leaves us all wondering just who the crap you are. If I find who it is, I'll stomp him/her soundly.
I know! Make search tell you who's trying to summon you! "You follow the strands of (whatever) with your keenly trained eyes and discern the form of (random summon happy individual) in the distance."

The amount of time search takes though, you could end up being summoned and finding out firsthand anyway
Niara2005-01-29 13:45:38
Just wave your cudgel and forget search.
Oh, and there are forest fires now and then...fortunately not often though.

Not like we Moondancers have cudgels, though.
