Revan's finger trembles and he bears his teeth in a hideous grimace. A small
crack appears in the ground beneath you!
Deciding to teach Revan the ultimate lesson in manners, you point a finger
imperiously at him and call the curse of the toad down upon his head. You watch
in satisfaction as warts break out over his skin which then turns green and
slimy. Finally, he shrinks and transforms into a large, ugly toad!
Laughing maniacally, a warty toad clenches its fists in triumph as the ground
splits open beneath you, releasing foul smelling vapour and a blast of fetid
heat. You hover momentarily over the gaping earthen maw before being sucked
screaming down into its darkness. Your life is quickly snuffed out as the walls
of this stinking chasm rumble shut, crushing you to jelly.
You have been slain by a warty toad.

You have been defeated and are thrown out of the Arena.

Yeah....that's a bug if I ever saw one
Revan2005-01-28 06:58:17
Meh, you're all just jealous. Using Pooka or dominate stops Chasm. ANYTHING we do, ANY action we take stops chasm. Or you can get out of the room. It's not hard. Plenty of people have escaped me in a stonewalled room. Though, I do find it funny that a frog can chasm.... I'll have to concede on that ONE thing.
Unknown2005-01-28 08:21:53
Bug? Maybe. Hilarious? Deffinitely.
Roark2005-01-28 14:04:03
I don't think it a bug. The spell is broken if disturbed if the caster does any action, not if enemies do actions against the caster. Although the text is a bit off (toads laughing and clenching fists?), the fact is that the spell was already in action. For you M:TG players, think of it like an enchantment card that says: "Place 3 counters on Chasm of Doom. Remove a counter during the upkeep phase of your turn. If you play any card or tap any card then Chasm of Doom is buried. When Chasm of Doom has no more counters, target player dies." If your opponent then played the green Toad Curse sorcery, it would not bury the Enchantment of Doom card.
Flow2005-01-28 14:09:55
It seems a little silly.
How do people escape you in a stonewalled room, by the way, Revan? You can summon them back in even if by some slight chance they manage to.

Heh, I love that a toad can chasm.
Flow, there are many ways to get over or under a stonewall Well for getting away is another matter, you have got to be quick. Or think quick

I always had a problem with Chasm. Compare it to two instant-kills Judgement and Soulless for example.
Judgement- Takes 5 powers, can be started at anytime, can be stopped by entangle, proned, target leaving the room, or caster committing any actions.
Soulless- Takes 0 powers, requires 7 rubs, can be thrown after fully rubbed, can only be stopped by target leaving the room, or committing any actions.
Chasm- Takes 3 powers, can be started at any times, can only be stopped by target leaving the room or caster doing something.
Not only does Chasm not require as much powers as Judgement or does it take as long as Soulless to prepare, but it has the benefits of Soulless in that only target leaving the room or the caster doing something can stop it. Coupled in the fact that Geomancers can stonewall to stop movement and have lodestones to pull down flyers. Why were Geomancers given such a powerful instant kill? It'd be reasonable if it was stopped by entangle/proned or had higher limitations prior to being able to cast it, but as of right now, it is severely overpowered.

Is that a Bon Jovi quote?
Ethelon2005-01-28 18:41:47
Roark, can't cast a sorcery during upkeep.....soooo....bah, I see your point
Shiri2005-01-28 18:46:13
Hah, Roark plays MTG? Rocks!
Buho2005-01-28 18:47:57
I'm sure Roark meant an instant.
Shiri2005-01-28 18:51:32
Well, a sorcery would have been just as valid. Since it wouldn't disrupt the enchantment in latter turns either.
Raezon2005-01-28 19:35:25
Wow, I just had to post seeing the M:tG reference... that's amazing Roark...
I <3 you, too!

Well, Arcanis the omnipotent WOULD agree.
Laysus2005-01-28 20:07:13
*love m:tg referencing roark*
Desdemona2005-01-28 20:45:29
... Wow, what a reaction a Magic The Gathering reference can cause.
Note to self: Refrain from resorting to anykind of Magic The Gathering reference. If possible.
Another note to self: don't molest toads, they seem to be deadly after all.
Edit: Just a small guard. Magic the Gathering players... at ease. I am one of you. My Avatar is "Iname Death Aspect", drawn by Justin Sweet, after all.

To make people stop complaining that chasm worked on them while webbed and what not, I would suggest the following simple change to the text..
instead of:
Laughing maniacally, a warty toad clenches its fists in triumph as the ground
splits open beneath you, releasing foul smelling vapour and a blast of fetid
heat. You hover momentarily over the gaping earthen maw before being sucked
screaming down into its darkness. Your life is quickly snuffed out as the walls
of this stinking chasm rumble shut, crushing you to jelly.
Make it:
A cloud of dust reveals the image of the disembodied head of a warty toad laughing maniacally as the ground splits open beneath you, releasing foul smelling vapour and a blast of fetid heat. You hover momentarily over the gaping earthen maw before being sucked screaming down into its darkness. Your life is quickly snuffed out as the walls of this stinking chasm rumble shut, crushing you to jelly.
Or some such thing, that way even if the player is paralyzed, bound, gaged, broken limbs and everything, its more clear that the spell is going off but the player isn't really in control of it anymore.

Well the Toad Curse sorcery could be done during the main phase of the opponent's turn after his draw phase. I figured Toad Curse would be too powerful to play as a fast effect.
