Banding rocked.

Four Benalish heros became one 4/4 banding for 4 white, then add in one white knight (can band a single creature which doesn't have banding) and you've got a 6/6 pro black first-strike.
Shiri2005-02-24 00:25:43
It was HORRIBLY confusing if you started to apply other rules anywhere in the vicinity of a banding creature, though. :/
Drago2005-02-24 00:29:34
Which is why I loved it happy.gif Confusing people rocks.

One of the Ice Cauldron/Bands With Other Legends crowd, eh? tongue.gif

I have a Green and Blue... Green - Powerhouse, and when I had an all green I would get mutilized by air, but now my Green is basically full of elves with a wellwisher rolleyes.gif... I haven't played in a while though

Confusing people only leads to arguments... I tend to avoid both. That's why I stick to the rules and explain everything clearly, and if necessary show them the rule from an official rulebook. That generally solves 99% of problems. If my strategy involves confusing my opponent, that's not a very good way to win, IMHO.

Which is, of course, false. It's actually just 4 1/1's and a 2/2 with pro black and first strike. Only the knight's damage will strike first, not all 6. And only the knight has pro black. But the good thing about banding is you get to decide where the damage goes on your creatures. Put it all on one Hero, or all on the knight if its from a black source.
Drago2005-02-24 04:04:04
That doesn't make my statement any less true. In effect I've got a 6/6 pro white creature, which does 2 of its damage before 90% of all other creatures and, if it takes 6 or more damage from a non-black source, it loses 1 power and 1 toughness happy.gif

I just describe it differently because it sounds better, in effect its still exactly the same.

Banding didn't get chucked out, its just not a Core ability, so just as you wont see Domain on anything ever again after Invasion block, you don't see banding. And it wasn't Banding that confused people, it was Bands With Others...

Still for confusion you can always have the pre-oracle wording of Phatasmal Fiend, that always made peoples head break.

My favorite was.. My instant is before your enchant creature spell, but I'm negating the instant with this counter spell so your spell goes through, but I first get the extra life from the artifact that gives me one life for every spell I cast, which allows me to use this other instant spell that sacrifices 2 life to kill all your monsters. Ok got it? Now its my turn to play.

The mating call of the blue player...

"In Response..."

The mating call of the red player...

"At the end of your turn...."

The mating call of the white player...

"Prevented and I gain 400 life"

The mating call of the black player...

"I sacrifice all my creatures, my graveyard, my library and pay 100 life, and you discard a card"

Green players don't have mating calls they just hit things.

Favorite Green card in a game of five players: Kudzu.

My favourite old decks are Domain (IBC era) and Enchantress (Urzas block). Domain because it was so fun and janky to play and the feeling of casting Cromat and Coallition Victory on turn 5 for the win is nearly unparalleled for its awesomeness. Green/White Enchantress because properly built it races Sligh and can thump virtually any deck in history.

My favourite deck that I saw someone use... I forget some of the card names, but this is the gist of it. He had lots of land. He could play any amount of land using Fastbond. He also had a card that let him discard a land to do two damage to an opponent. Storm Cauldron let him return in-play lands to his hand, and Zuran Orb let him send land to the graveyard for extra health. Some other card let him get lands out of his graveyard. Using lots of blue control to delay the opponent from forming any threats, he would eventually pull off a combo that let him recycle all the land in play, in his graveyard, and in his library into his hand and discard them all for usually 60+ damage distributed however he pleased. Many lands would get discarded multiple times due to the gravehard recycling he had in place. The Zuran Orb staved off damage from the Fastbond, and the Storm Cauldron/Fastbond let him get a massive mana supply to power the whole process. In a multiplayer game, he would usually kill off two to three full-health players in one turn.

The discard one would be Seismic Assault, off the top of my head. happy.gif And the lands out of graveyard is Crucible of Worlds. So you've been playing within the last year, Roark, interesting. biggrin.gif
Rauros2005-02-24 17:13:44
Sounds like one of my old creations... and the card you're thinking of is Seismic Assault.

Bleh, Shiri posts too damn fast.
