QUOTE(Shou @ Jan 30 2005, 05:03 AM)
The trick to breaking demesnes is that you can't really 'break' the demesne fully...I mean, you cannot remove the meld from a room if it would in turn cut the demesne in half. A demesne always has to be fully connected in a whole... For example, if there there 5 rooms adjacent to each other, something like this..
- - - -
Numbers 2, 3, or 4 cannot be broken, NOT because they are connected to two rooms, but because it'd 'cut' the demesne in half.
Now that that's out of the way, Ravin's demesne is very breakable in Dairuchi. I won't give too much detail because that wouldn't be fair, but just use the above idea to help you. Work outward then progress inward, eventually enough will be cleared so that the roads can be cleared as well.

Munsia's demesne, who is 35% my might and probably not trans a skill, rendered our influencing of Estelbar useless.

one. Munsia is trans druidry or very close to it
two. it was my demesne in Estelbar

Influencing time, no it was not, it was Munsia's. Munsia's demesne was Southgard afterwards.

That must explain why when Munsia died, the demesne effects kept going, and then I guess perceive must be bugged since it gives me the wrong name.
Faethan2005-01-30 04:05:31
Perhaps the limit of demense size should be dependant on one's level. Something like 2 or 3 rooms per level. This would take down the absolute max a bit, and also prevent those of lower level from making ridiculously huge demenses.
Aebrin2005-01-30 04:09:53
In reality, demesne doesn't go that large for other people - only for Geomancers.
Serenwilde has a 30 power per month limit and Celest has a "use power wisely unless power shortage - which is 30 power per month". However there's a rule in Mag that says all Guild Champions can draw power as much as they want which makes it a hard competition to fight against.

Well.. I have a 319 room demesne, and I set that up with a lot of Geomancers help, and Yuniko gave me 35% reserves.

That has nothing to do with game mechanics.
I still do not understand how a ring, connected to the demesne center externally, can be 'broken'. Since apparently all three 'sides' have figured it out, would someone be so kind as to explain how and fix the AB file already?
Silvanus2005-01-30 04:37:45
A demesne cannot be cut in half.
ravin2005-01-30 05:12:35
that is the most rediculous thing i've heard aebrin. You are complaining because Magnagora has more power available to its members?
So because we have worked hard, fought hard and sacraficed a hell of a lot to get the villages and the power, we should suffer because 'its not fair' cmon really. its like saying oh people who bash a lot should heal less from elixirs because they have more health. Hard work and dedication should be rewarded, like it is with high level = high HP, lots of influencing and combat = high power.
Its the city that gets the benefit of influencing because someone has an uberdemesne, in the form of power. So to make power (by getting the village) the city should be saying "ok you slack-ass mages, you get extra power for the upkeep of your demesne, just keep village X with a demesne up the whole time we don't care how much power you take because we will more than make it back in the end"
I took as much power as was needed, especially at the start when I got told to make it, I used 200% power in 2 hours forcetainting and melding, but having dairuchi was a priority so there you go. Don't bitch about power restrcitions because if the city leadership and power ministry was intelligent they would do something like that.
Its all about hard work and dedication

Eh.. maybe no one else thinks it's necessary to forcetaint/forceforest/forceflood 400 rooms.
It just shouldn't be possible nor should it last as long as it did. And reeeelax.. it's a game... on the outside.

Let's formalize. What the AB file implies is that:
This is obviously wrong. An alternate idea based on what you said, Silvanus, would be:
IE you cannot cut a room off from the demesne center by unmelding. This is also wrong, however, as the above log showing the failure to untaint the Grand Junction, since there is another path from the center through the Glomdoring, over the mountains, and up the Old Imperial Road.
Another idea:
This seems the most likely given the (contradictory) information available. Comments?

Another idea:
QUOTE
DEF: dist(A) := minimum distance from room A to the center of the demesne through only melded rooms.
A given room X cannot be unmelded if there exists a room Y such that X != Y and dist(Y) increases as a result of unmelding of X

Keep your cool Ravin, I'm not complaining - just stating a point of the current situation. Yes I agree, people who needs to get rid of your demesne need to be offered more power. And it would be something for our generally slack-assed mages to do (although there are exceptions, to those I say a predominant sorry).
Personally, you can have a demesne as big as your ego, to all I care.

We won Dairuchi fair and square.

And to Thorgal, in present circumstances, yeah you did. Celest did not have enough people around with a) strength or with the city ranks. Not sure with the Seren situation though. So grats to Magna for this round, looking forward to the next one.
